Ice Spear

The Ice Spear skill uses MP to gather water particles in the air and turn them into a spear shaped block of ice. The ice spear is created above the targeted object to take advantage of its weight and acceleration by gravity. Ice spear has greater piercing power compared to ice bolt, and therefore can incur damage over enemies in the surrounding area.

Details

  • Requires an Ice-type Wand or ice-charged Staff to use.
  • An intermediate magic spell that casts compressed Ice using a magic weapon which is then thrown in the form of a spear, freezing impacted opponents before the ice shatters and damages them.
  • Ice Spear can be charged up to 5 times, each charge increasing damage and splash up to a maximum of 6.5 charges worth of damage at 5 charges.
    • At 4 or less charges, Ice Spear will do its base damage times the number of charges.
  • This skill can be Auto Charged.
  • The user cannot move with Ice Spear loaded.
    • From Ranks F to 2, the user will lose all charges when knocked back. At Rank 1, this changes to two charges.
  • When Ice Spear is cast on a target, all enemies along the line of sight to the intended target will be frozen. After a certain time, Ice Spear will explode, dealing heavy damage and knocking all affected enemies down.
    • The initial impact (freeze) deals no damage.
    • The width of the path and the radius increase with rank.
    • Ice Spear will have no effect if the target becomes invincible when the freezing time has passed (e.g. Dungeon Recovery Rooms).
    • Frozen enemies will be immobilized, will not be able to load any skills, and cannot attack/be attacked.
      • Mana Crystallization's version ignores the inability to attack frozen enemies.
      • Enemies frozen by Ice Spear can still be harmed by Flame Burst. However, this will allow other players/monsters to attack the frozen target with other skills as well.
  • Monsters will not aggro immediately upon freezing; they will only aggro after the ice explodes.
    • They may still aggro during the freezing effect.
  • Monsters with Level 2 or higher Mana Deflector, or are using Defense with a Shield, will resist the freezing effect.
    • If the target resists an Ice Spear, they will turn light blue. It will still explode after the "freezing" time has passed.
    • When Ice Spear is cast on an enemy with Mana Deflector multiple times, the explosions will stack.
  • Monsters that are killed by Ice Spear will cause other monsters nearby to freeze as well, creating a chain reaction. Chained explosions gradually get weaker.
    • This chaining effect can happen up to sixteen times.
    • Novice Rank does not spread after the explosion. Only monsters within the direct path of fire are frozen along with the initial target.
    • Use of this spell under Mana Crystallization will ignore the damage reduction.
  • Like Thunder and Fireball, Ice Spear ignores Magic Protection when calculating Critical chance.
  • Between Thunder and Fireball, Ice Spear has the quickest charge time but does the least amount of damage. Mana use varies depending on skill rank and the player's Race.
    • At 5 charges, Ice Spear becomes the most Mana-costly spell for Giants and Humans at Rank 5+. For Elves, Ice Spear will always use less Mana than both Thunder and Fireball.
  • Ice Spear's explosion delay is affected by the Wand if applicable.
  • It is possible to Chain Attack an Ice Spear, since it takes a short amount of time to cast it. This is done by attacking the enemy in rapid succession with Ice Spear once the explosion occurs.
    • Ice Spear can be used to continuously freeze (and lock) monsters with Advanced Heavy Stander, if they lack Mana Deflector, as method of dealing with monsters that have the attribute.
  • Every 100 Intelligence decreases Mana Usage and Casting Time of Ice Spear by 2%.
    • The Casting Time is calculated as: (Base Cast Time) / [(1 + Int / 5000) * (1 + (Wand Speed Boost)) * (1 + (Vivace Boost) * (1 + (Magic Weapon Mastery Boost))]
  • Obtaining this skill allows one to create Alchemist Ice Spear Crystals via Mana Crystallization.

How to Get Quest

Talk to Stewart with the Skills Keyword with "the Elemental Apprentice" title and an Ice Wand, Crown Ice Wand, Fomor Crown Ice Wand, Ladeca Ice Wand, or Par Ice Wand equipped and while not doing another Skill Quest (Arrow Revolver, Final Hit, Final Shot, Fireball, Thunder, Fusion Bolt, Hail Storm, Shock, Campfire Rank C - > B, Composing Rank 8 -> 7, and Musical Knowledge Rank 9 -> 8, 7 -> 6, and 4 -> 1).

Additional Information
  • After receiving the quest, Stewart provides a 1x2 Collection Book, Exploration Journal. After the second step, Stewart trades the book for another 1x2 collection book, The Book of Ice Spear.
    • Both books have a total of 5 pages.
    • The pages are dropped by monsters at a relatively low rate.
    • Unlike Fireball, Arrow Revolver, or Shock, both books are collection books rather than pages being enchanted into it. The pages also do not need to be placed in order and they do not expire.
  • In the third step, Nele provides the Elemental Dungeon Pass Keyword, which is used to obtain an Elemental Dungeon Pass for Coill Dungeon.
    • Upon completion of the quest, the keyword will disappear.
  • Forfeiting the quest will not remove the book from the player's inventory.
  • Completing any book after giving up and before re-accepting the quest will cause the respective objective to be cleared.

List of Pages of the Exploration Journal‎

Page 3 drops from any glowing stone boss in Karu Forest Ruins, which can only be reached using a special pass. The pass is obtained by acquiring a quest from the Exploration Quest Board in Qilla Base Camp which, depending on the quest, requires level 11-15 current exploration level. The quests are also collection books, which requires glowing body parts, dropped by stone bosses with a glowing part in Karu Forest Ruins, which are also reached by using a pass from a regular stone body part from monsters with "the Dubious" Monster Title in Karu Normal. The full glowing pass can also be acquired from Exploration Gachapon (2012), Loved Food Rewards of Hot Spring Monkeys, or Good Luck Potions.
