Description

Mana Shield.png
Creates a powerful protective field using the power of mana in order to defend against enemy attacks. It is effective against both physical attacks and magic attacks. The more understanding you have in using mana, the less mana you will use to defend.

Details

Mana Shield activating.
  • Mana Shield is a toggleable skill that invokes the Mana Shield Status, causing any damage taken to deduct from the player's Mana pool instead of Life and also renders the player immune to Injury.
    • All damage received is displayed in blue instead of white. A blue effect will also occur when the player is struck.
      • The blue effect becomes invisible if Mini Effects is enabled.
    • A blue ring below the player's feet will indicate Mana Shield's activation.
    • Mana Shield consumes Mana on activation, then slowly drains Mana over time.
    • The Mana loss as well as the damage taken with Mana Shield enabled is calculated as: Damage Taken / Mana Shield Efficiency.
      • Mana Shield Efficiency is calculated as: {[(Magic Attack - 2) + Mana Shield Rank Efficiency] * .004} + Mana Shield Rank Efficiency + Healing Wand Bonus + Mana Reduction Bonus
        • Healing Wands add 0.5 to efficiency.
        • Mana Reduction Bonus adds 10% damage reduction.
      • If the damage received exceeds the player's Mana (after calculating efficiency), Mana Shield becomes automatically deactivated and the portion of the damage that was not blocked will be received as HP damage.
      • Mana Shield does not take the player's Defense, Protection, and Magic Protection into calculation.
    • Poison Attack, Mirage Missile's shock damage, Life Drain's draining portion, Dischord's sustained damage, Puppet's Snare's damage over time ticks, Meteor Strike's leftover flames(?), Devil's Cry's damage effect, and Black Dragon's Stomp bypasses Mana Shield, ignoring the player's MP while directly affecting HP.
  • Mana Shield causes an MP Elixir's effect to expire 5 times faster than normal. Disabling Mana Shield will remove the penalty, but will not restore lost time.
  • Mana Shield has no effect on the Dark Knight Disarm phase; HP is still drained rather than MP.
  • Using Mana Shield while in Deadly status will not prevent incapacitation and will still drain MP.
    • Being drained to 0 HP by Life Drain and then receiving Life Drain's knockback damage with Mana Shield active, however, will prevent incapacitation.
  • Mana Shield cannot be activated while loading another skill, stunned, pushed back, or knocked down.
  • Mana Shield can be deactivated at almost anytime, even during the middle of an attack cycle.
    • However, it cannot be deactivated while talking to an NPC.
  • Currently capped at rank 6.

Skill Issues

  • When using a Fountain with Mana Shield enabled and it gives you wounds, your Mana will rapidly decrease and will go below the threshold.

Additional Information
  • Hobgoblins are located near the main river that flows within Courcle or in Lappa Village. A Raft from La Terra Highlands can be used to reach the Hobgoblins on the river. Lappa Village can be reached by turning the Raft to Erkey Falls or using a Flying Mount or Hot-Air Balloon to fly over the river.
  • "Talk with Kusina along with someone you love" means to have a person of the other gender in your party.
    • You must be the leader of the party. There cannot be any other members within the party, other than the person of the opposite gender.
  • "Make Ruwai a friend" means to to tame an Otter with Taming Wild Animals. Tupai sells Courcle Taming Bait and Courcle Taming Cane which are needed for said skill.
    • You do not need to talk to Ruwai with a tamed Otter.
    • While the quest marks the Marshes of Pantay, taming one of the closer Otters to the north of Cor also works.

Training Method

  • All the training requirements will only be fulfilled if the player is hit with the Mana Shield status active.

Training Tips

  • At higher levels, Mana Shield requires you to be hit by specific types of attacks.
    • Melee attacks as well as Critical Hits are exceedingly easy to build up if you have a Mount. Go to any low level dungeon like Alby or Ciar and look around for a large Mimic pit. Get on your mount and touch all of the Mimics. They will not awaken immediately. Once you un-mount your pet, the Mimics will simultaneously awaken and aggro you together. If you have reasonably high MP and Mimics do only 1 point in damage to you (depending on your Magic Attack and rank of Mana Shield), you can sit back and watch the melee hits pile up. It is also possible, if you are Human or Giant, to activate Final Hit or Wind Guard, respectively, after gathering a large group of enemies and let them continually attack you.
    • For Ranged Attacks, it's the same, but look for an orb room of Goblin Archers instead. Otherwise, you may look for Shadow Archers in Defeat the Shadow Warrior (Basic), as they do low damage.
    • For Magic attacks, you may want to go to Ceo Island or Coill Dungeon and attract one of the elemental Sprites. It would be helpful to have elemental protection (such as equipment with Magic Resistance or Elementals) in order to maintain low damage. Otherwise, Rafting may be another option and allow the Hobgoblin Exorcists to strike you with their bolts.
  • Bandits from Commerce is another option, as the enemies use varieties of attacks (Imps use Magic, Goblin Archers use Ranged, and Humans, Goblins, Giants and Ogres use Melee). It would be wise to locate the Rookie types as they deal the lowest damage of all the Bandits.
  • Alternatively, for all of these. Use Dorren's Request as you can simply hit the orbs you need as required.
  • If you lack a reasonable amount of MP, lure monsters to Mana Tunnels. The tunnel will constantly regenerate your MP and will hopefully sustain your MP when taking damage.
