The childhood of Tarlach was not revealed much in mainstream storyline. He lost his older sister at young age; she was murdered by Fomors (he says so in the Generation 1 Mainstream). Ever since this incident, Tarlach indulges himself in studies to search for the eternal paradise: Tir Na Nog, a spiritual plane of existence where immortality and eternal happiness exist. He decided to become a Druid at some point, working as a pupil of Mores.
His sister isn't known very well, as Stewart only mentioned it as he presents Tarlach's Locket. On the item, a woman is engraved, whom is believed to be his sister.
After his master's disappearance followed by the end of Second Great Fomorian War, he traveled together with Ruairi. In Tir Chonaill, they met a local school girl Mari on her way to Alby Dungeon as a school assignment. After defeating the Giant Spider, Ruairi mentions he had a dream where the Goddess Morrighan called for him to come to the Tir Na Nog and rescue her. All of them agree to the plan and Tarlach tries to find clues to Tir Na Nog's whereabouts.
Therefore, Tarlach goes into Rabbie Dungeon alone to find Kristell, a Succubus who loves him, for the answers. However, Kristell is a Fomorian, his enemy, which means she is unable to aid him in any way. Kristell also challenges Tarlach, wanting for him to love her after being defeated. Prior to a short battle, Tarlach defeats her and tells her that while men normally battle to conquer others, this isn't the case. The druid leaves afterward.
In Tir Na Nog, the trio battle the Dark Lord, who taunts "curses" them after his defeat, saying "[Tarlach] will live in physical and mental agony forever...". In the next room, they find the body of Glas Ghaibhleann. Mari uncovers a book, the first volume of The Book of Revenge, but Tarlach is unable to interpret it as the whole book is written in Fomorian, but assures them that his old master might be able to. Shockingly, Tarlach's old master, Mores, appears and orders his fellow Ghost Armor and the Dark Lord to seize them alive. After Mari is mentioned, Mores hesitates, but Cichol disguised as Morrighan soon appears and commands the soldiers to continue their onslaught; Tarlach begins to doubt Morrighan and is rendered unconscious after this event.
Tarlach woke to find himself separated from his friends while Kristell was tending to him. He also found himself terribly injured and could not sustain Mana normally. In present day, Tarlach is believed to be dead but currently resides in the Altar of Druids and takes the appearance of a bear in the daytime (6:00am to 6:00pm). He also feeds on Mana Herbs in Bear form to sustain his life (apparently he is allergic to them as a Human). Additionally, if he leaves the Altar of Druids, he would die.
