Talk:Passive Defense

From Mabinogi World Wiki

curious, if and when i start stacking PD does it stack or is it additional %'s of %'s and does it stack with regular protection? as per beholder +15% ranged pd, dustin's +20% ranged pd, DK maxed natural shield +20% ranged pd and full upgraded dustin's prot +11 prot(making a war mage set for guild battle)? if so would this stack with shield magic's prot? —Preceding unsigned comment added by GlyphZero (talkcontribs) . If I understand what you're saying, my guess is that the attack goes through both of the Passive Defenses. If it doesn't get blocked on the 1st Passive Defense, it may get blocked on the 2nd. If it gets blocked on the 1st passive defense, it will be stopped there. --Kevin (•Talk•) 18:58, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

I noticed they didn't mention the PD offered by trans, would that be considered common knowledge? or did someone forget--Alice

Passive Defense %

Do the percentages from various equips/skills stack?

Dark Mana Deflector r1 20% + Clothing Magic PD 8% + Shield with 5% magic PD is 33% chance for it to activate?

Also... while in trans and you have the Berserk effect, do you still gain the damage reduction from the 100% Berserk PD? Or is the damage reduction still only activated when the skill based PD activates?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Health (talkcontribs) . No it pings them automatically. The system will roll if the 20% activates. If it does not, it will re-roll to see if the clothing pd activates, if it does not, it will re-roll a 3rd time to see if the 5% activates, if it does not, then there is no activation. Of course, if it rolls and activates off the 20% roll or fails the 20% and activates at the 8% roll, then it won't check the 2nd or 3rd roll respectively. When using berserk, even if you do -ping- if your normal pd would activate, the damage would be less. --Miyuna 12:01, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Extra Defense?

So if PD activates, does it also lower the damage that you take, or does it just allow you to retaliate faster?

I'd also like to know this. Does item passive defense only reduce stun when it triggers, or also damage?
In a similar vein, I understand that melee passive defense is checked seperately, but what about mana reflector and natural shield, the transformation versions of which -always- trigger? Is the stun reduced further when the item -also- pings, or does it do nothing at all? --Hecate 16:53, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Bolt out of the Blue and Mana Deflector

Bolt out of the Blue does not bypass Mana Deflector - I have tested this myself.

I have removed the line saying it bypasses passive defenses.

Puppetry's Act 9

Does the explosion effect from Act 9 trigger Heavy Stander as well or another Passive Defense?

Pyro - (Talk)11:34, 2 November 2012

Nothing triggered against the sandbag puppets.

dark knights' PD changed?

My friend and I were messing around in a duel, and he spammed AR while I was in trans. I got hit around 20 times without having natural shield's 100% auto-defense kick in once. Did the activation rate of DK PDs/the auto defense rate change or is it just glitchy?

Yinato09:34, 7 May 2012

Unfortunately, due to the nature of DKs, Passive defensives are subjected to the multipler bonuses, resulting in reduced rates.

Edit: I'm going into Rabbie Arena to test this...so far most of the Japanese players say that it's something about DK's multiplier bonuses. I have rank F, but enough to rank it to about A maybe? maybe less, so I'll see what happens.

o.e I apparently forgot my login for the other server...

S•A•R•I•A12:50, 7 May 2012

Wait, Falcon/Paladins don't get activation on all three Passive Defenses like Dark Knight/Beast but the ones that do activate are more rapid-activating? (Or did you mean transformation Passive Defenses in general?)

Pyro - (Talk)17:19, 7 May 2012

This only happened since the update that removed the knuckles btw.

Yinato17:47, 7 May 2012

o.e if it's update related, then it is most likely broken...

S•A•R•I•A17:51, 7 May 2012

May I recommend you write all your log-ins/passwords in a password protected encrypted file and hide it well with some obscure name.

Pyro - (Talk)13:13, 7 May 2012

Yeah I know. Lost it in a computer crash though o.e.

Looks like NA servers are back up so gonna test DK passives.

S•A•R•I•A13:25, 7 May 2012

I forgot to add in that my friend was firebolt spamming on the side whenever I got too close, and MD didn't kick in either o-e; Either way, both PDs wouldn't get the crap end of the stick. Only HS was active.

Yinato14:49, 7 May 2012

Ranks of Passives? (Have yet to test DK multiplier theory)

S•A•R•I•A15:00, 7 May 2012

r1 HS, MD, and r5 NS

Yinato16:33, 7 May 2012

DK's PDs were also subject to multipliers too? Since when? Wiki makes no mention of it.

Infodude57517:12, 7 May 2012

Well that's just Mikaya's theory on it. Let her test it out.

Yinato17:46, 7 May 2012

I'd test it myself but neh...college Wifi o.e...

at any rate, I would think it would be the case considering it's a DK thing...DK has always been interesting for me. They have akward stat boosts to begin with...and the passives...yeah...them passives when they get active.

S•A•R•I•A17:50, 7 May 2012

Multiple Tests show that it should activate 100 percent of the time. This was done with 60 runs in the arena. I have yet to check PVP. Think you can explain what exactly happened? Did you trans during pvp?

My friend and I were messing around in a duel, and he spammed AR while I was in trans.

Yup, we both ended up using trans halfway into it. We're both DKs, and he didn't seem to ping against magic, but did for range and melee. On the other hand, I only pinged against melee. It may have been fixed with the recent update? I'll test later today.

Yinato02:56, 8 May 2012

Due to the nature of Mabinogi, they don't need an update to fix glitches like that. Translations, mistranslations, hack shield errors, visual errors, those require an update. However, they may still need to turn off the server for certain glitch fixes.

Pyro - (Talk)03:02, 8 May 2012

I did not see the duel part x.x...anyways sounds bugged from the update. or it could be visual errors. You didn't get knocked back did you?

S•A•R•I•A12:36, 8 May 2012

Whenever I got hit by arrows or bolt spells, I wouldn't hear any pinging sounds. As for the knockback, I was still getting pushed back from the second shot of AR (friend was using wing bow). I'm about to head home so I'll test it later tonight.

Yinato13:56, 8 May 2012

I just tested it and the PD activation seems to be back to normal now.

A Separate Page for Auto-Defense

I think people are starting to think that passive defense is the same as auto defense >>; A separate page should probably be made, seeing as passive defenses are skills while auto-defense comes from equipment. The only things the two defenses share in common is the color that you'd "ping" and the lvl 1 damage and stun reduction of PDs is the same as auto-defense (but that changes in lvl 2 and 3). You can't become immune to damage from auto-defense alone, and range/magic auto-defense are different from the PD counterparts.

The only time PDs would be mentioned on the auto-defense page is when calculating melee auto-defense and how there's a 100% activation rate with the other 2 PDs.

Yinato06:17, 3 May 2012

Calculation of PD activation

I don't understand the formula...

Infodude57516:37, 26 April 2012

Well it'd be easier to explain if you've taken a data managment(at least gr. 12) course. The probability of event "A" occurring is: p(A)=n(A)/n(s), where n(A) is the total number of possibilities of event A occurring, and n(s) is the total number of possibilities. Also, the probability of event A occurring + probability of event A not occurring = 1. In the example given on the page, the probabilities are 20% from trans pd, 8% from armor and 5% from shield. This means that the probabilities of each pd not activating are 0.8, 0.92 and 0.95 respectively (1-0.2, 1-0.8 and 1-0.5). Multiply those 3 numbers together and you get 0.6992, which is the probability that none of the events will occur. Then subtract that probability from 1 and you uave the probability of pinging, which is 0.3008 or 30.08%.

Yinato20:06, 26 April 2012

I still don't understand. Also, what's p in that equation?

Infodude57520:57, 26 April 2012

To put it simply, each item is calculated individually. Should a person get hit and one of the items actually activate the passive, it'll activate, regardless if the other passives didn't land in that chance of activation.

☽ミ☆カ☆ヤ☾21:45, 26 April 2012

I still don't get it...

Infodude57521:47, 26 April 2012

p is the probability of an event happening.

Yinato02:03, 27 April 2012

Damage Reduction

Does equipment have an effect on damage reduction, or is it just the chance of ping?

Infodude57522:25, 26 April 2012

Equipment is chance. Transformation passives actually reduce damage, as well as monster passives.

☽ミ☆カ☆ヤ☾22:48, 26 April 2012

Someone clean up this page please? It looks very choppy and messy...

Infodude57500:11, 25 April 2012

Did some work to it, with elaboration.

☽ミ☆カ☆ヤ☾08:22, 25 April 2012

Passive Defense=/= Protection?

I've noticed that that for most monsters that have lvl 2 of every PD, they are marked as having 50% protection. Is that really correct? Does the damage reduction from PD's also have the effects of reducing wounds and critical, just like protection?

Pyroblade10:25, 29 January 2012

Metalware and PD

there's pd on the metalwear kits for "heavy" armor types, so in regards to getting X levels on a heavy helm item and X levels on a heavy boot item; are they still calculated at the same time or added due to level of metalware? is there any damage reduction change at higher levels(there are 5 PD-able slots)?

[[User:GlyphZero|GlyphZero]]04:39, 24 September 2011

That's a good question, and since metalware is implemented it should be investigated more.
