Heavy Stander is one of the three types of Passive Defenses. It is essentially a skill that gives a monster the ability to ignore pain (and thus stun) from melee attacks to a certain extent.

- Heavy Stander is a passive ability innate to select monsters.
- Heavy Stander can randomly activate when the monster is being attacked by any melee attack.
- When active, the monster will flash red, and the player will hear a metallic noise. A message will also flash across the player's screen.
- Upon activation, Heavy Stander allows the monster to counterattack immediately, even in the midst of the player's attack cycle.
- Activation will interrupt the player's attack cycle if the player is using a normal attack. However, it is possible to continue attacking normally if the monster does not choose to retaliate.
- There are three levels of Heavy Stander, each with their own unique effects.
- Some monsters have an unrelated advanced form of Heavy Stander, where the monster can never be knocked back or down by any (or any one/two) type of attack, Melee, Ranged, or Magic. This advanced form of Heavy Stander applies separately and can be coupled with any of the levels of Passive Defense. (Ex. Dragon, Giant Guard, Elf Guard, Sand Worm). See Advanced Heavy Stander.

- This is not enough to stop the target...
- Can’t shake the target’s balance!
- That may have inflicted some damage, but the target still has its guard up.

*Damage reduction for Heavy Stander is a constant effect, even if the "ping" is not activated.
