Description

Mana Shield.png
Creates a powerful protective field using the power of mana in order to defend against enemy attacks. It is effective against both physical attacks and magic attacks. The more understanding you have in using mana, the less mana you will use to defend.

Details

  • Mana Shield is an active skill which will cause any damage taken to deduct from your Mana pool instead of Life.
    • Because injury does not effect mana, mana shield makes a player entirely immune to injury while active.
  • Mana Shield activation invokes the Mana Shield Status; the shield will only work if the status is present.
    • All damage dealt to you will be shown in blue instead of red.
    • If you are hit for more damage than you have Mana for (after calculating efficiency), the Mana shield status is immediately canceled and all damage is received as HP deduction.
    • However, no MP loss will occur if this happens.
  • Mana Shield slowly drains Mana while activated.
  • Using a Mana Elixir during Mana shield will reduce the duration of the elixir to 1 minute rather than 5 minutes. Deactivating Mana Shield will restore the duration of the elixir.
    • Damage that exceeds a player's Mana capacity will still cancel Mana Shield even with a Mana Elixir in effect.
  • Using Mana Shield with Windmill will take 10% of the player's Life and Mana.
  • If you fall into deadly status, using Mana Shield can't prevent death.
  • When you are out of MP, the skill is deactivated.
  • Intelligence adds to the skill's efficiency, up to a maximum of 300 int, which adds about 0.85 to efficiency.
  • Having a healing wand equipped adds 0.5 to efficiency.
  • Mana Shield cannot be activated when a skill is being loaded, however it can be activated freely after the skill is fully loaded.
    • Mana Shield can, however, be deactivated anytime, even during the middle of an attack cycle.

Easy Training

At higher levels, mana shield requires you to be hit by specific types of attacks. Melee attacks are exceedingly easy to build up if you have a mount. Go to any low level dungeon like Ciar normal and look around for a large mimic pit. Get on your mount and touch all of the mimics. They will not awaken immediately. Once you unmount your pet, the mimics will simultaneously awaken and aggro you together. If you have reasonably high MP and mimics do only 1 point in damage to you, you can sit back and watch the melee hits pile up.

For range, it's the same, but look for an orb room of goblin archers instead. For magic attacks, you may want to go to Ceo island and attract one of the elemental sprites. It would be helpful to have elemental protection (such as equipment with magic resist or elementals) in order to maintain low damage.

*Mana Efficiency is the ratio of mana used and the actual damage being dealt to you. (1 : ?) For example: if you have 0.8 total efficiency (Rank F, 0 Int, no healing wand), 100 damage will cost you 120 mana. At 2.5 efficiency (Rank 1, 0 Int, no healing wand), 100 damage will cost you 40 mana.

Obtaining the Skill

  • Talk to Kousai in Cor about skills without an orb in your inventory.
  • Talk to Waboka. He will ask you to kill 10 Hobgoblins.
  • Talk to Kusina. She will ask you to get any friend of the opposite sex. Make a party with someone then talk to Kusina once more.
    • You must be the leader of the party.
  • Talk to Tupai. He will ask you to tame an Otter . If you don't have one already, buy a Taming Rod and some Bait and equip them (Tupai sells basic versions of these items). Then head to the beacon on the map near the Marshes of Pantay to find Otters. (You do not have to tame the otters at Marshes of Pantay, the ones north of Cor work as well)
  • Use the Taming Wild Animals skill to tame an Otter.
  • Once successful, talk to Kousai, and you will be rewarded with the Mana Shield skill.
