Who am I?
On the Wiki
Hi I'm Giegue. [ɡiːɪɡ]
I can't code and struggle with the template systems, so I will often only fill in missing information, or create a page that already has a format to follow.
Otherwise I end up eating an entire template or the front page, and embarrass myself.
Sorry about that.
In-game
My main character's name is Giegue. They're human, Total 25k+ as of 2021.
I currently play on the Nao server, frequenting the active channel.
- I played Mabinogi Europe in 2009 as a closed beta tester.
- I played on Morrighan, frequently on Ch1.
- I was a member of Origin.
- I was active on the Forum.
- When Mabinogi Europe shut down, I moved to NA during March 2012.
- I played on Mari, and stayed away from guilds.
- I'm still here.
About Me
I spend a lot of time writing, with a strong interest in accurately recording Mabinogi's Lore.
A bit of a fanatic, my friends have taken to calling me "The Mabinogi Historian", and "Mabinogi's Ghost Writer" due to an unhealthy obsession with the game's lore and coincidentally predicting the story.
I self-study Irish Gaelic, and enjoy figuring out the inspiration behind the choices made for Mabinogi.
Notes
I'm going to share some of my personal notes relating to canonical yet obscure Lore on my Wiki page for any curious soul or fellow Lore nut to enjoy.
Warning: Some of my notes may contain plot spoilers.
WIP
This is where my study of the climate and environment of the Uladh region would go...
IF I HAD ONE-- no I have one, but it doesn't make any sense and I'm not going to put a wall of self rambling on the Wiki until I'm satisfied that people would be able to use it.
In Myth, Cernunnos was referred to as the "Horned God" and the master of the wild. Not much was known about them, thus the name generally refers to the numerous, nameless horned deities in Celtic Myth.
- Cernunnos was first mentioned in G1, by Endeylon.
- It’s true that we humans obtain meat and hides from animals, but reckless hunting will cause the sorrow of Lymilark and the wrath of Kernunnos. - Endelyon Keyword: Ranged Attack
Kernunnos is a mistranslation, the correct spelling is Cernunnos. Mistranslations were pretty common in G1.
- Cernunnos was mentioned later on in G24 by Deirbhile:
- Of course, Cernunnos will be helping me...
- Of course, Cernunnos will be helping me...
- Later on, the Incubus King states his identity as 'formerly' Cernunnos:
- Please, allow me to formally introduce myself...
I was once the ruler of the dream realm, the leader of all the incubus...
As well as the caretaker of the forest that has now disappeared.
Not anymore though, of course.
The power befitting of Cernunnos... It was taken by the queen when she left long ago.
- Please, allow me to formally introduce myself...
This heavily indicates Cernunnos is a title rather than a name, and that the Incubus King's prescence within Fiodh Forest during Lovers in the Forest of Desire was due to his affiliation with Siora as the Forest's caretaker.
As the power of Cernunnos disappeared with Siora, Kerune is unlikely to bear the title of Cernunnos despite his appearance and role.
Below the creator and supreme god Aton Cimeni are a trinity of gods charged with spreading and upholding the noble virtues of love, peace, and freedom throughout Erinn. -Llywelyn, G22.
Piran states that the Three Pillars are free of physical form and require a vessel in order to descend to Erinn. [Note to self, Find Quote]
Thus despite being referred to as "God", "Goddess", "He", or "She", they appear to be genderless.
I for one, adore my Non-Binary deities.
Lymilark:
The God of Love, though also stated to have created Erg, the life force in Erinn. It is possible that Lymilark is also the god of Life.
Kristell frequently preaches the sayings of Lymilark in her keyword responses.
- Kristell when responding to Tir Na Nog Keyword:
- Why turn your faces away from self-evident truth? Face ye the truth and follow in obedience, for it is right.
- Kristell when responding to School Keyword:
- Love is made possible only when your hearts are emptied and someone else fills them. Remember ye this word and endeavor to love.
- Kristell when responding to Music Score Keyword:
- What worries carry ye in your hearts? What passion hold ye in your hearts? Will ye to the love for your lord compare all these things? How is it that to meaningless things ye spend your strength and passion?
- Kristell when responding to Mabinogi Keyword:
- If ye hate someone, your emotions wound not the hated but your souls. Feeling and embracing a wounded soul is a time of great pain however quick it may be.
- Kristell notably states, in response to various combat-related keywords:
- Thou shalt not attack others. Ask thyself if anyone suffered wounds inflicted by thee without knowing and repent thy sins. The wounded are also our Lord’s beloved. How dare a mere being like thee attack thine brother and hurt him. Reckon ye as a father the heart of God.
- Wyllow has another translation of the same verse for similar keywords:
- Do not attack others. Repent your sins for unknowingly attacking someone, causing great distress. That being is loved by Lymilark just the same, so why would you, a mere creation of Lymilark, fight your brethren and hurt them? Try to understand Lymilark’s intentions through the eyes of a parent.
- It's so badly translated...
- Another notable teaching is Kristell's response to the Ranged Attack Keyword:
- Fighting begetteth fighting, and that fighting begetteth more fighting… Therefore, in harmony and understanding ye shall endeavor to live instead of fighting, embracing and loving one another instead of jealousy and envy. Repeated fighting in the end shall be the ruin of all…
- During G22, Eirawen and Llywelyn state together:
- For greater is he who fosters reconciliation and understanding over argument: who abides in tolerance and loving-kindness rather than nursing a jealous and quarrelsome heart.
- This could possibly be derived from the older dialogue.
- For greater is he who fosters reconciliation and understanding over argument: who abides in tolerance and loving-kindness rather than nursing a jealous and quarrelsome heart.
- While not stating any teachings of Lymilark, while using Private Story Keyword Pencast states:
- The Pontiff’s Court has no choice but to keep its distance from alchemy. Especially concerning attempts at life alchemy, it completely goes against the ethics of the Lymilark teachings.
Hymerark:
The God of Freedom and Chaos. [Beyond this point, I haven't recently compiled information relating to Hymerark as an NPC, this was all written before G23.]
- Piran during G22:
- Stay not thy hand from taking action: close not thy mind to possibility.
- Vayne during G22:
- Let not thy feet falter in carrying out thine own will… Let curiosity’s guiding star lead thee down the pathways thy heart yearns to walk.
After G22, Piran shares a few teachings of Hymerark in response to particular keywords.
- Piran when responding to General Shop Keyword: (NOTE: After G25 Piran's Keyword dialogue changes, this response may no longer be available.)
- Cling not to thy belongings, but do not disdain that which comes into thy possession.
- Piran when responding to Mabinogi Keyword: (This keyword still gives the response after G25.)
- Accept your hardships with gladness, and your suffering with open arms, for by these trials shall you be raised up, that you might stand unbowed in the days of adversity.
- Towards the end of G24, he states that Hymerarks trials may come in the form of natural disasters, referencing this teaching.[Find Quote]
- Accept your hardships with gladness, and your suffering with open arms, for by these trials shall you be raised up, that you might stand unbowed in the days of adversity.
The Order of the Black Moon are genuine followers of Hymerark, but are extremists.
Jeamiderark:
The God of Peace.
"Before now, a minor faith like ours has never merited attention from anyone in a high position, and certainly not of the Queen herself. It was the same for the Order of Jeamiderark, which I imagine is why most of it’s members left for Connachta long ago." -Piran, G22
"[...]if no one does anything, the Order of Hymerark will just... fade into history, like the Order of Jeamiderark." -Piran, G25
I have not updated my "Study of Incubus" document since G12, as the lore on them was scarce. I'll update it with the new stuff later.
[OUTDATED]
- Lebbaeus is the only NPC who gives concrete lore on Incubi:
- Haha! Destiny you say?
An Incubus like me doesn't have such a thing as destiny.
Incubuses are incomplete beings that can only live off of other people's dreams.
The moment we awaken from long slumber is the start of death for us...
If you truly wanted to wake up from sleep and breathe the aroma of death...
I, Lebbaeus, shall help you!
- Haha! Destiny you say?
Lebbaeus's dialogue has strong implications that an Incubus who has awoken is essentially disconnected from their life source and dying rapidly. This could possibly indicate that the player's encounters with Incubus in the Castle Dungeon are one of two things: The fight is either taking place in a dream (or nightmare if male?), which may explain the strange inorganic monsters of the dungeon. Or more likely that the fight is taking place in the waking world, and the Incubus is dying anyway, explaining their grim song. Do Incubi sleepwalk?
The theme that accompanies the Incubus boss opening is Cutscene_01. A theme with the same melody but different key is Cutscene_05 which plays when Morrighan communicates to the player in prophetic dreams. Castle Dungeon Music Dungeon_11 is named "Prince of Solitude."
Aton Cimeni the Great - Name Origin.
The 'Aton' part I'm pretty set on:
Aten - A deity depicted as a Sun Disk, also acceptably named "Aton." Personal Theory is that Aton Cimeni is Palala itself or strongly related, as both were thought to bestow Erg. I cannot find any other potential meanings for Aton, other than Atone in English.
The 'Cimeni' part though... there's some thoughts.
"Simon" - Hebrew name, meaning "Listen" or "Hearing"
"Sí" - Irish, meaning Fairy + "meánna" - Irish, meaning scales/balance weights. This one is unlikely, as Meánna is pronounced MAW-na.
The new content update in Korea is out and with it are some BIG HONKIN SPOILERS. These notes are written here for personal reference for when this content arrives in Mabinogi NA. Any trivia or information still relevant will be applied to their appropriate pages and these notes shall be removed from my page. current date: 13/08/2021
A new dungeon released in Mabinogi Korea as 크롬 바스. The Journal Entry for completing Crom Bás shows the dungeon spelled as I am spelling it. "Crom Bás", yes with the Fada (irish accented letter) on the a. Crom in Old Irish can be translated to mean things such as "Bent," "Crooked," and "Curved." In Dutch it also means "(Morally) Wrong" but it's likely a coincidence, as the BGM for Crom Bás is named "Those with Twisted Faith." I believe the meaning of Crom in this context is "Twisted." Bás is Irish for Death. Various Korean players agree that Crom Bás translates to Twisted Death in Irish. It would be pronounced /krɒm bɑːss/.
New NPCs: 펠롬. Lit "Pellum", personally interprets his name as Féilim, an Irish name meaning "beauty, ever good, constant." There are various Féilim's in Irish Mythology, many are kings. It's likely Féilim will be localized to "Felim, or Phelim" as Nanum Gothic tends to struggle with Fada, though it has been used. Pronunciation: /feːl̪ˠəmˠ/
이루샤. Lit. "Irusya", but Korea Mabi spells it "Irusan" A black and white Fairy/Fomor half-blood with a split personality. I have theories about what and why Irusan is the way they are. I am unsure if Irusan is male or female currently. His name may come from the English word "Illusion.", they speak ending most sentences with "Shya", and also laugh as "Shya shya shya~!" He seems to have some power to cause Nightmares
Returning NPCs: Brielle and Gillach. Brielle, now a young adult and an archeologist famed for the lengths she'll go, as well as a follower of Lymilark, returns. Gillach is alongside her. The two of them permanently reside outside of Crom Bás Castle
New ... Area? Crom Bás Castle is located in Tory Ravine, past a suspicious boulder located near the "moongate" of Blackstone Beach. A new Moongate will be unlocked.
All the enemies have little backstories to them. The tutorial quest references mainstream quite heavily (there is a reappearance of an important NPC) The difficulty of the dungeon is dynamic: It changes depending on your actions. Irusan is the boss of the "normal" difficulty, but acts as a midboss if players choose to pursue harder difficulities. The true boss of Crom Bás is Glas Ghaibhleann, of which his form changes depending on the difficulty of the dungeon. 40 to 70 "dark erg" (difficulty modifier) is "Complete/Finished Glas Ghaibhleann." and 80+ is "Ultimate Glas Ghaibhleann." The dungeon can be completed as much as desired, however a maximum of 7 keys per week can be obtained.
Every main weapon (except Hammer...) gain a new weapon known as Nightbringers, in Korea for example, the Crossbow is "Nightbringer Rook", and the Staff is "Nightbringer Inquisitor", There is also a book, but according to Korean Players, the Books obtained from Gachapon are superior to it. However, this new book does not require feathers to repair.
I'm currently testing how the Intimacy System impacts the Private Story Keyword and Nearby Rumors Keyword with older NPCs. This is for the purpose of being able to fill those pages in with significant amounts of missing dialogue in order to obtain more pieces of lore. Previously I input a large update for Bangor and Dunbarton, with Bangor's revealing that Sion and Shenon are cousins, but it turns out there's a MUCH deeper hole with the Intimacy System than I first thought that can't be achieved by just using Likeability Potions. That means this requires knowledge of not only the likes of an NPC, but the dislikes as well, in order to find a way to, so to speak 'farm', their dialogue.
Unfortunately I discovered that the entire MabiWorldWiki is wrought with errors in terms of Liked Gifts, and nearly Empty on the matters of Disliked gifts. (Did you know, Aeira likes Slice of Cake despite the Wiki stating the contrary? That's another project I'm working on, but I got distracted by this...)
I'm using Kristell as an example, and am utilizing several alts to test what parts of Intimacy impact the dialogue.
- The gifts I am using are Candlestick (likes), and Cubic Puzzle (dislikes), which can be purchased at Kristell and Walter respectively.
- Kristell has "Intimacy" Portraits, 5 stages where her facial expression changes depending on her Favor. From Lowest to Highest: Hate, Bad, Neutral, Like, and Love.
"Greeting" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "Nice to meet you, CharacterName."
- This only occurs once per "Memory" of the character, when Personal Story is used first. This response does not repeat until the NPC has fully forgotten the character.
- Portrait is Neutral.
"Neutral" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "I am the priestess at this Church. Have you ever heard about Lord Lymilark's deep love and compassion towards humans? You probably have."
Nearby Rumors: "You can satisfy the hunger of the soul at the Church. For the hunger of the body, you should visit the Restaurant. Glenis' Restaurant is popular around here, so you should be able to find it easily."
- This is the basic Dialogue that occurs after greeting. Usually this is all players will see of most NPCs. Even if Memory is high, this is all players will see.
- Portrait can be Neutral, Good, or Love*.
- *If very Stressed, characters will see this dialogue instead of Favorable/Very Favorable Dialogue.
"Favorable/Very Favorable" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "It is good for you to come to the Church often. It is a sign that the lord is guiding your soul."
Nearby Rumors: "Hmm. Have you heard of Math Dungeon? There is a seal stone in front of the dungeon... And they say that only those who walk the way of a true bard can break it. In my opinion, I think rank C on Composition, Musical Knowledge, and Instrument Playing skills would do. Oh, how do I know this, you ask? I have my ways. Hahaha."
- This dialogue is affected exclusively by Favor. Memory and Stress play no part. If her Memory is low, the NPC will not move up to the next stage. If her stress is high, the Neutral Dialogue shows instead.
- Portrait can be Neutral, Good, or Love.
"Extremely Favorable + Very Memorable" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "I thank Lymilark for my encounter with someone like you. I hope to get to know you more in the future."
Nearby Rumors: "Oh, if you are from the north, have you seen Priest Meven in Tir Chonaill? Whatever others may say about him, he is someone I truly respect."
- This dialogue takes a lot of work to achieve, and I believe it is the Most Positive dialogue to achieve. This dialogue would not occour if Kristell gave any indication of stress ("Kristell is giving me a look that it may be better to stop this conversation."), and would only occour once Memory and Favor were very high.
- Portrait must be Love. - (Kristell is really giving me a friendly vibe.)
- This dialogue probably also indicates when a Secret Shop is accessible, although Kristell doesn't have one.
"???" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "The gleaming appearance of humans only fades away in time. The only thing eternal is the love which the lord pours out on humans."
Nearby Rumors: "Stewart is a good man. You seldom see people who are so pure in spirit at his age. I am frustrated that there are false rumors spreading between him and me."
- I do not know what causes this dialogue, as Kristell seems to give it randomly regardless of her Intimacy. I assume it's related to stress, but it's very rare and I cannot consistently cause it.
- In the rare times she has used this dialogue, her Memory and Favor were somewhat high, but in the process of decaying.
"Unfavorable/Very Unfavorable" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "There are many people who would ask why I became a priestess amongst other things. Is that so important? Hehehe."
Nearby Rumors: " Aeira is a cute girl but... She is... umm... a little shallow at times. Jumping in on other people's conversations and whatnot..."
- Easily obtained by lowering Kristell's Favor with Cubic Puzzles. This isn't impacted by her stress or memory, as I tested with numerous alts.
- Portait can be Neutral or Bad. - (Kristell is making the impression that I am not a welcome presence here.) (Kristell is giving me what I call a look of open contempt.")
"Extremely Unfavorable" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "It is good that you are asking so many questions but... Somehow, I feel that you are more interested in me than the grace of Lord Lymilark. I feel slightly uncomfortable."
Nearby Rumors: "Ha ha. I am not so interested in the affairs of others. Besides, talking about such things would be more appropriate only after getting to know someone a little."
- I didn't expect this dialogue at all, but it comes from achieving "Extremely Unfavorable" Favor levels. This also isn't impacted by stress or memory, as I tested with numerous alts.
- Portrait must be Hate. - (Kristell is really giving me the impression that I am not wanted here.) (Kristell is making an effort to avert my eyes.)
"Unfavorable + Very Stressed" Dialogue.
Personal Story: "Pardon me, but I have an appointment with someone else. May we speak later?"
Nearby Rumors: "Has it ever occurred to you that asking too many questions about others might be rude or offensive?"
- This Dialogue is followed by: "(Seems like this person did not enjoy the conversation.)", or "(A bit of frowning is evident.)", or "(A disapproving look, indeed.)"
- I consider this the Most Negative response an NPC can give you. This dialogue is only achieved when at the (Kristell is giving me an impression that I may be interrupting something.) stage of stress, with her either in the Very Unfavorable or Extremely Unfavorable state.
- Portrait can be Bad or Hate.
Extra Notes:
- Even when Very Stressed, Kristell had no alternative Dialogue when in the Unfavorable, Neutral, or Favorable states.
- I haven't been able to test if Very Stressed has different dialogue when in the Extremely Favorable state.
- Causing Stress when the NPC is Extremely Unfavorable is incredibly easy. Contrarily, when the NPC is Extremely Favorable, deliberately causing Stress seemed very hard.
- Sometimes Kristell would sometimes begin to shuffle between "states" with her dialogue, indicating there might be a slight overlap.
- This may also be due to the enigmatic nature of the Intimacy System. I'm basing this all off theories and very limited knowledge due to not being able to physically see the system in play.
- I need to test Other NPCs, as Stewart also has a strange extra line of dialogue, and I didn't notice any Unfavorable + Stressed dialogue with Aeira, though I might have missed it.
This is a list of the default music that plays during Haunting Melodies.
