Spoilers outside of Spoiler Tags

Fragment of a discussion from Talk:Wiki Home

Large black boxes covering things at random places is both awkward and obnoxious. Mabi has been out for several years and much of it's "dramatic" spoil-y content is also pretty old. The expectation when you are looking for help on a storyline of anything thus established is that certain portions of the storyline will be revealed.

The wiki already does a very good job at concealing most of the surprises during the quest help sections so it's entirely unnecessary to to concern ourselves with the trivialities of trivia related spoilers

Agreed, which is why I said "Personally, I was never fond of this solution but it is better than nothing, and it is better than using euphemisms," I would prefer better suggestions other than this and changing the word Morgant into "other identity" and using other euphemisms. (Which I don't quite get, there is a spoiler tag at the top of the article, are we still not allowed to put spoilers in the open?)

Kapra - (Talk)18:45, 5 March 2014

Like Sakura said, people don't really pay attention to spoiler tags.

I have to agree with WhitePass, the black boxes might make everything harder to read. We could just leave the spoiler content as it is and blame people for not reading the spoiler tag.

As for changing Morgant to "other identity" on Lugh's page, Mikaya and I agreed to strip the focus of Morgant on Lugh's page because pages of character's other identities don't mention their true identities outside the spoiler box. If you want, you could say "Morgant (Lugh's other identity)".

I disagree that it's "better than nothing", actually. If people aren't reading the spoiler tag, maybe it needs redesign. I was being facetious above, but it should probably be more noticeable.

Saiyr (talk)19:55, 5 March 2014

I do have to say that the spoiler tag isn't very noticeable if you go by pages quickly.

b-b-b-but I noticed...since day 1 D:...

Yes Mikaya, but are you those people that complain about spoilers even when there's a spoiler tag marked on the thread/page?

Nise Panda (talk)20:46, 5 March 2014

If you ask me, most people disregard it e-e then again it shows up enough times on a page when you expand the mainstream story boxes. I don't it's hard to ignore. It could be more noticeable though.

Saiyr has the right sort of idea. Shifting the blame to readers whilst possibly understandable is self defeating and terrible from a quality perspective. We don't write the wiki for our own satisfaction.

Mystickskye (talk)23:21, 5 March 2014

We don't; some of these other people, you can't say that about.

I agree, the header could use a redesign. Maybe it's just that I got used to filtering it out of view, but I don't even notice it anymore.
