User:Larsa/Larsa's Guide To Carpentry

From Mabinogi World Wiki

Introduction

Hello everyone, it’s time for another life skill guide, and this time we are going to dive into Carpentry. Let’s face it almost everyone who is looking for STR is glaring at this skill for the amount it gives, and there are the few handful that just want to be professional woodcutters as well. If you’re looking for a quick guide to training yourself in the ways of Carpentry you have come to the right place. Just as a disclaimer, this guide only assumes that you are trying to get to Rank 1, and not obtain the master title.

Things to Remember

  • Craft on Mondays for a much higher success rate and better rate of getting higher quality Bow makes.
  • Brionac can be used to train the skill for the price of its durability.
  • Training Seals from the Adventurer Shop can be used to make the process a bit easy, provided you complete daily quests as often as possible.

Prerequisites

Just like with my Blacksmithing Guide, I will list off a few things that you will need to make Carpentry a little bit less time consuming for you. Some will be absolute musts, and some will be completely optional, but these will benefit you when you are trying to cut, and refurbish your wood.

  • Carpentry Talent: For obvious reasons, you would want to get this to run down the training in half. Saving you lots of time.
  • Carpentry EXP Lv 2 (or higher) Reforged Woodworking Plane: This will ensure that you get a bit more training exp from when you improve the quality of your wood as well as making Bows.
  • Rank 1 Weaving: A lot of the Bow makes require materials that can only be obtained through Weaving. This also includes lots of Thick Thread, Tough String, and Leather Strap makes which are very tedious to do.
  • Rank A Refine: Just to let you know, some bows require Ingots to create. So you will need to get this at a good/high rank in order to properly get the proper amount to get past some training requirements.
  • Rank 9 (or higher) Harvest Song: This is to ensure more successful makes, and gathering of wood. It also speeds up the process quite a bit, so this is defiantly worth the time ranking.
  • Rank A Ingredient Hunting (Optional): Even though the skill is mostly for cooking, there is a random chance of it producing a variety of Leather here and there. It can be helpful at times.
  • the Busy title: This is to speed up the process a bit.
  • the Lucky title: the more luck you have the better your odds of getting a Lucky Gather, which will provide bonus materials and in the long run saving you time.

With that out of the way let’s get started and dive into it.

Training Carpentry

Rank F

  • AP: 5
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +1% Success Rate
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Firewood 1.00 100 100.00
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 3.00 20 60.00

At first the training is very simple with only having to chop wood blocks for Firewood (also obtainable from trees) and Average Firewood. The most you have to do for now is just chop wood at this point so this should not pose as a problem. I highly recommend you save all the Firewood you obtain for the later ranks, so have a lot of space in your inventory at the ready.

Rank E

  • AP: 5
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +2% Success Rate
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Firewood 0.80 80 64.00
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 2.00 15 30.00
Successfully create Average Firewood. 1.00 20 20.00

At this point you will have to make Average Firewood in order to progress to the next rank. Using the firewood you obtained from the previous rank you should be able to get a few makes here and there, and complete Average Firewood makes in no time. After that’s done continue chopping Wood Blocks. Again be sure to save every wood that you get.

Rank D

  • AP: 5
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +3% Success Rate
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Firewood 0.50 100 50.00
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 1.00 30 30.00
Successfully create Average Firewood. 1.00 30 30.00

Generally like the previous rank except with reduction in training EXP, follow the same steps as last rank and you should be able to get through this rank in no time.

Rank C

  • AP: 7
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +4% Success Rate. Can create Fine Firewood.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Firewood 0.30 100 30.00
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 0.50 60 30.00
Successfully chop Fine Firewood. 1.50 20 30.00
Successfully create Average Firewood. 0.50 100 50.00
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 3.00 10 30.00

This is where things begin to get a bit difficult/time consuming. At this point the training requirements add Fine Firewood gathering/makes, and the success of making them is a bit on the low side. However they aren’t necessary to pass the rank, but it will make it go by much quickly. At this point it’s highly recommended using Harvest Song to beef up the success rate for makes and gathers, but you should be able to get through this with just Average wood gathers/makes.

Rank B

  • AP: 7
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +5% Success Rate
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Firewood 0.20 150 30.00
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 0.40 40 16.00
Successfully chop Fine Firewood. 1.00 15 15.00
Successfully create Average Firewood. 0.20 100 20.00
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 2.00 20 40.00

Rank E repeats here where you have to do Fine Firewood makes in order to pass through to the next rank. If you have been saving as much fire wood as you can at this point this is where it starts to become useful. Get Fine Firewood makes out of the way first so that way you can focus more on regular gathers and Average makes. Doing so will complete the rank in no time.

Rank A

  • AP: 7
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +6% Success Rate
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Firewood 0.10 200 20.00
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 0.30 50 15.00
Successfully chop Fine Firewood. 0.80 25 20.00
Successfully create Average Firewood. 0.15 200 30.00
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 1.00 40 40.00

At this point you will need a bit of everything to pass this rank. You will not be able to pass this rank with just makes, but also Average, and Fine gathers. There’s not a whole lot to say about this rank, but along the way you should be able to chop some Average and hopefully a couple Fine woods while chopping Wood Blocks.

Rank 9

Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 0.20 90 18.00
Successfully chop Fine Firewood. 0.50 50 25.00
Successfully create Average Firewood. 0.10 300 30.00
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 0.80 60 48.00
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 1.50 10 15.00

This is where things begin to get a little harsh. You will no longer receive training EXP for regular Firewood. And at this point the skill heavily relies on Average and Fine Firewood gathers as well as introducing Finest Firewood makes. In general you don’t have to do the Finest Wood makes, it would speed up the process but the rate of success is low. You should be able to get through this rank through Average, Fine and Finest wood makes however this will require quite a bit of wood. It should be noted that at this point your inventory might be getting overwhelmed.

Rank 8

  • AP: 10
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +8% Success Rate. Can create Elven Short Bow.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 0.10 200 20.00
Successfully chop Fine Firewood. 0.25 100 25.00
Successfully create Average Firewood. 0.05 400 20.00
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 0.50 80 40.00
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 1.00 15 15.00
Successfully create Short Bow. 1.50 30 45.00

Starting here is where things get very difficult. The training now calls for Short Bows which require 2 Fine Firewood and 2 Thick Thread Balls. It’s not required to make Bows at this point to continue the training; however it does speed up the process quite a bit. Unless you have someone who is willing to help with Weaving materials, buying them from other players, or if you have trained Weaving yourself you will be taking quite a long time to get past the next ranks ahead. It should also be noted that unless you are able to maintain constant makes of Average/Fine/Finest wood, you won’t get through this skill quickly as you would when making Bows. I recommend trying to make a few bows here and there to speed up the process considering that the rate of chopping Average and Fine wood is a bit random.

Rank 7

  • AP: 10
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +9% Success Rate. Can create Long Bow.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 0.05 300 15.00
Successfully chop Fine Firewood. 0.15 160 24.00
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 0.25 150 37.50
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 0.80 30 24.00
Successfully create Elven Short Bow. 1.50 30 45.00

This rank is just about the same as the last one, only now it asks for Elven Short Bow makes instead. These Bows require 3 Fine Firewood, 3 Thick Thread Balls, and 3 Large Nails for makes, which begins to take up quite a bit of space and labor to get. The Large Nails can be obtained from hitting props/objects/signs nearby, but it will take some time to get an adequate amount for constant makes. Again, you will have to rely on makes at this point to get through this rank quickly if you are pressed for time. Relying on the RNG for chopping Average and Fine Firewood will take up a lot of time.

Rank 6

  • AP: 10
  • Stat Improvement: Str +2
  • Effects: +10% Success Rate. Can create Composite Bow.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully chop Average Firewood. 0.04 250 10.00
Successfully chop Fine Firewood. 0.10 180 18.00
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 0.01 400 4.00
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 0.50 80 40.00
Successfully create Long Bow. 1.50 30 45.00

The training requirements become sparse now with the removal of Average Makes. At this point you HAVE to make Long Bows in order to proceed to the next rank. Long Bows require 5 Fine Firewood, 3 Thick Thread Balls, and 1 Cheap Leather Strap. Cheap Leather can easily be obtained from Goblins which are located in Ciar and Barri Dungeon, but for convenience running through Ciar is a bit quicker. At this point Weaving materials become MANDATORY, there is no other option around this unless you indent to use Skill Training Seals through the rest of this skill, or use Brio to train the rest.

Rank 5

  • AP: 11
  • Stat Improvement: Str +5
  • Effects: +11% Success Rate. Rank Bonus +1 Balance. Can create Guardian Bow.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 0.01 500 5.00
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 0.30 100 30.00
Successfully create Composite Bow. 1.50 60 90.00

Same as last rank, however as you will notice, you will no longer receive EXP for chopping wood, making the training much harsh and time consuming. The Composite bows are pretty much your only major EXP giver and require 8 Fine Firewoods, and 2 Thin and Thick Thread Balls. It is highly recommended to use Brio at this point to save materials and time once you complete 30% of the Bow makes, either that or just use Training Seals to get this rank out of the way.

Rank 4

  • AP: 12
  • Stat Improvement: Str +3
  • Effects: +12% Success Rate. Can create Elven Long Bow.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully create Fine Firewood. 0.005 1000 5.00
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 0.20 150 30.00
Successfully create Guardian Bow. 1.50 30 45.00
Successfully create Fine Grade Bow. 1.00 40 40.00

The first of the hell ranks in this skill. At this point most players either give up, or leave this skill to suffer the wrath of Skill Training Seals. In order to proceed in this rank and upcoming ranks, you have to make Guardian Bow (which require 4 Fine Firewood, 1 Finest Firewood, and 2 Tough Strings) and a few Fine Grade (High Quality) Bows. The rate for making a high grade bow is highly sporadic and unpredictable, and players have speculated that it depends on the type of Bow that you are trying to make. For some reason most have come to the conclusion that Elven Long Bow give a much higher chance of getting a Fine Grade make. I however took a different approach. I found it much simpler to continuously spam Short Bow makes through Monday. Not only did I save materials, but also spared myself a lot of headache in trying to get past this and future ranks.

Rank 3

  • AP: 13
  • Stat Improvement: Str +3
  • Effects: +13% Success Rate. Can create Leather Long Bow. Skill Rank Bonus: +2 Balance, +1 Durability.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 0.10 250 25.00
Successfully create Guardian Bow. 1.00 20 20.00
Successfully create Elven Long Bow. 1.50 30 45.00
Successfully create Fine Grade Bow. 0.80 40 32.00

Welcome to the next hell rank, as now it removes the Fine Firewood makes and making you have to make two different Bows to continue; the same Guardian Bows from the previous rank, and Elven Long Bows (which requires 3 Fine Firewood, 2 Finest Firewood, 1 Tough String, and 2 Iron Ingots) . This skill is heavily time consuming at this point in trying to get the proper materials, especially from having to go through other skills to get them. It also still continues to ask for a few Fine Grade Bow makes, however if you continue to spam Short Bow’s for the fine grade makes you should have little to no problems.

Rank 2

  • AP: 14
  • Stat Improvement: Str +3
  • Effects: +14% Success Rate. Can create Crossbow. Skill Rank Bonus: +2 Balance, +1 Durability.
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 0.08 300 24.00
Successfully create Elven Long Bow. 1.00 20 20.00
Successfully create Leather Long Bow. 1.50 30 45.00
Successfully create Fine Grade Bow. 0.50 60 30.00

The last of the hell ranks. This time replacing the Guardian Bows with Leather Long Bows (these require 5 Fine Firewood, 2 Finest Firewood, 3 Thick Thread Balls, and 1 Fine Leather). This is where things get heavily time consuming as the materials are very tedious to obtain. The Fine Leather is obtainable through various Advanced Shadow Missions as a monster drop, however the drop rates are horribly low, you might be better off trying to buy them off from other players rather than spending time trying to hunt for them. Again there is no way to describe this rank from the few previous ranks. You should continue spaming Short Bows for the Fine Grades to get it out of the way.

Rank 1

  • AP: 20
  • Stat Improvement: Str +7
  • Effects: +15% Success Rate
Method Exp. Count Total
Successfully create Finest Firewood. 0.05 600 30.00
Successfully create Leather Long Bow. 1.00 50 50.00
Successfully create Crossbow. 1.50 50 75.00
Successfully create Fine Grade Bow. 0.25 400 100.00

Congratulations on reaching Rank 1, you should really be proud since you just came out on top of this skill. I will not go into any more detail into this rank as that is not this guide’s purpose. However if you do intend to go for the Master Title, be warned that this will be a heavily time consuming process. All I have to say, is good luck.
