First Aid is a skill that treats a badly-injured person right on the spot to prevent the injury from advancing, while allowing for further, more extensive treatments. This is why some people seem to dismiss First Aid as nothing more than a spontaneous treatment to stop the bleeding. That's a big mistake. Any adventurer that is used to battling monsters know firsthand how terrible the injuries get in a hurry if not treated right there on the spot. They know how small injuries can lead to big ones in a hurry.
Potions or the Healing skill treats wounds by revitalizing the body's life force. That is why, once the injury has reached a serious status, no amount of Healing or potions will cure the wound. First Aid allows the body to enter the state of 'Allowing the acceleration of healing from outside force.' Which means First Aid isn't just an act of adaption of circumstances, but a base for future treatments.
Here, we'll discuss how many types of First Aid treatments are around, and what would be a more effective way to apply treatments.
1. The Importance of Bandages
Unless it's a major injury, your body is bound to heal on its own, but it's imperative that bad wounds should be pressed down and prevent it from getting worse. The best item to use for that is a bandage. The bandages that we can purchase from the Healers are called a roller bandage, and it's a bandage made out of thin fabric that covers up the wounded area to prevent the germs from permeating, while also contributing to such things as stopping the bleeding, heating, extension, realigning, etc.
Stopping the bleeding is essential in that if a person over bleeds, the person will be subject to fainting, or false, falling due to shock, and even death. A small wound can be left alone and the bleeding will stop, but that does not apply to big wounds.
Extension is an effect that closes in the wound that may have really opened up. It's an essential aspect of healing because it allows the body to correctly heal itself.
Realigning would be a process of of realigning the bones and/or tendons that may have been either out of place or broken, and setting it straight to make sure the area is healed correctly. Most adventurers have trained themselves from an early age, and therefore have flexible bodies, so most adventurers may not be subject to this, but for regular, common people, this can be a cause to be bandaged up, as well.
Heating does not require explanation, in that it allows the body to keep its body temperature in tact. Have you ever experienced having your wounds heal faster next to the campfire?
That is because when the body is kept warm, the healing powers of the body speeds up. Bandages allow the wounded area to be covered and kept warm, which allows the healing to become faster.
2. How to Wrap Up the Bandage
Bandage needs to be wrapped in such way that while holding the tip tight, slowly overlap the area with precision until the area is wrapped up with just the right amount of pressure. If it's wrapped too tightly, the blood won't flow around the area, anf if it's wrapped too loosely, the bandage will come off sometime later, so it's imperative to find the right balance. People usually use the crisscross technique, where the bandage is crisscrossed, with half of them overlapping. For the bandage tips, a bandaging method will be used where a single spot will be wrapped multiple times to stabilize the bandage and not have it loosened up.
It requires even more technique to wrap up the joints. For this, where the bandages overlap, it should be folded in a 90 degree angle, and the overlap it so the joints have some room to move around, and tighten it right when there's no more curved areas. If you pull it all the way back, trusting in the elasticity of the bandage, then the wounded area may be exposed, thus making the bandage irrelevant. Bandaging up the joints differ greatly based on whether the bandage, centering around the joint, needs to be wrapped towards inside, outside, or stretched to the opposite end, depending on which joint to wrap up. For elbows and kneeds, it's better to wrap up with the folded are on the inside, and for thighs and other parts that thins out as it goes, even if it's not a joint, it's better to turn it the opposite way midway through, and follow the lines from there on.
An important aspect about bandaging is that the patient has to be still, not moving around or anything. If the patient moves around, then it defeats the purpose of realigning the injured area. The best way to do so is by bandaging the patient while the patient is sitting down. If a campfire can be lit next to the patient to speed up the recovery, that much better.
Another way to do it would be using several people to bandage one person. This usually happens when fighting powerful monsters, and if everyone gets critically injured at the same time, it's
imperative that the wound gets tended immediately. Dungeons are cold and enclosed structures, so the germs permeate easily. If many of you are injured at once, then it's best to set an order
for those to be bandaged, so the person who's responsible for bandaging the wounded can do this one by one.
3. Treatment After Bandaging
Once the First Aid is complete by bandaging, it is important to recover the HP. Drinking a potion helps when in an emergency, but if taken too often, you may suffer from overdose. Therefore, it's better to use the Healing skill, which uses the power of mana to boost the natural recovery rate of the body.
The most ideal condition for First Aid would be to light up the campfire, and bandage up the wounded with someone who can do that, while the Healer applies the Healing skill. If you're critically injured during an urgent moment, then you should consider taking the'Full Recovery Potion.' Due to its potency, along with many stimulants that consist the potion, please take it in moderation, because it's much easier to overdose on it.
I may be a Healer that sells potions, but I strongly recommend using the Healing skill if possible. Potions are for emergency purposes.
We have just discussed how to efficiently apply First Aid. It's best to take preventive measures so no one gets hurt, but if your close ones get injured, don't hesistate and apply First Aid to protect your close ones..
