It adds 7 protection, you can check comparing with and without the guard cylinder. critical is unchanged, other than the bonus from the skill when equipped with another cylinder -goes to change-
-EDIT- apparently this is not changeable, due to the nesting bull that is the equipment templates, the value in what appears to be the appropriate field is correct, but there seems to be no way to change what it says: "attacked_critical_bonus="7"" It's like the equipment templates actually hinder the ability to edit the wiki
