From Mabinogi World Wiki

I've had a few people ask me what "class" I am, when talking about this game. This question is difficult to answer, since there are no "classes" to be found in this game. Although a lack of a class system can make it difficult to find the type of character you need, the search for the proper player can be done by refering to their style of play

I think that the Three Missing Warriors RP Quest was designed to introduce new players to the ideal methods of play, or styles, that can be found in the game. Most of the experienced players I've met have combat styles that fall into one of these catagories:

Melee (Ruari)

Uses blades or blunt weapons, Focuses on Strength

Missile (Mari)

Uses bows or crossbows, Focuses on Dexterity

Magic (Tarlach)

Uses Wands/Cylindars, focuses on Intelligence

Whenever a character begins fighting in the game, they usually feel conmfortable with one of these styles of play. This can easily be seen in what kind of Spirit Weapon they create, or favorite items and enchantments.

An experienced player would know exactly which skills to train for his play style. However, beginning players would not be so fortunate. They may not know what style they want to play, and end up wasting time building a charactor they dont want to play.

For them (and for my own personal compulsion), I shall try and list the skills that i think would be useful for each play style. This should make it easier to figure out what style of play someone has, and what skills someone should focus on if they want a certain method of fighting.

This is how I see it break down...

Melee style focuses on attacks that use the Strength attribute, and perfers skills from the Combat family, since they increase strength.
Magic style focuses on Intelligence, and perfers skills from the Magic catagory, which build inteligence.
Missile style focuses on Dexterity, and perfers Life skills, which build on Dexterity.

There are a lot of exceptions and details that this grouping misses but I think this is a good road map for those who want some sort of "class" system to ease recruitment and party play.

Styles of play often combine with each other, or develop into a new combat style altoghether. For example, most of the Melee players online use skills in both the Combat and Magic groups. These magic warriors can be refered to as having a "Magic Melee" style.

A style of play using mixed skills (Mixed Style) for increased effectiveness is encoraged in the game, but they will not be as effective as a Pure Style (unmixed with skills of different groups). Refering to the previous example, players who use the Magic Melee style usually are equipped with combat wand and a shield. That way they can defend and attack while still keeping the ability to use magic. They even get a bonus to Blaze, which is a magic skill that uses the strength attribute to calculate damage! However, they will not be able to use Advanced elemental magic at all, and melee damage will be lowered noticably.

Mixed Style could be simmilar to using a subclass in other RPGs, since it gives more skills but at lower effectiveness. At any rate, here are some catchy names for each Mix with untested equipment sets.
