Score and fragments

Score and fragments

I noticed the page stating:

  • "Score for the minigame is entirely based off of speed, with a higher score granting the player additional Fragments or Crystals."

This did not correlate with my experience. So I decided to do a bit of testing.
What I found was that your speed in the minigame is a major factor in the hidden score system, so indeed it's important. However the number of stars you match seem to cap the score. If you only match 1 star, no matter how quick you are, you will always get 5 fragments at Rank 1.
I'm not sure if the score cap is decided by the number of stars you match or the % of the constellation that you get right. It's easy to test 1-2 stars and full completion vs 3-5 due to RNG placement of the filler stars (which disappear over time so you'd have to be fast to even test this range), while also taking in account the constellation's total stars.
The bare minimum of a test I did was to see how many fragments can you get at certain milestones. The criteria I used to test this are the following:

  • Constellation Casting Rank 1
  • Use the time remaining as my milestones
  • Match all stars
  • Take note of the number of fragments acquired at each time remaining milestone
  • No Grandmaster Fate Astrology used

These are the results:

  • 21 or higher seconds remaining = 9 fragments
  • 20 seconds remaining = 8-9 fragments
  • 19 seconds remaining = 8-9 fragments
  • 18 seconds remaining = 7-8 fragments
  • 17 seconds remaining = 7-8 fragments
  • 16 seconds remaining = 7-8 fragments

From here I only did one casting for each milestone. So I'll group together the results that are the same:

  • 15 to 12 seconds remaining = 7 fragments
  • 11 to 8 seconds remaining = 6 fragments

At 0 shown seconds remaining, which would be something like 0.8 or 0.7 left, I got 5 fragments. Which is the same as the number you get if you only match 1 star. The result was the same at 2 seconds remaining.
Something to comment for the 18 seconds sample, the 7 fragments were acquired from a small constellation, while the 8 were from a a few big ones. Which makes me believe that constellation size matters regarding the score cap aside from matched stars.
Oh and it seems that all of this does not affect the rate of crystals. That one may be RNG.
If anyone wants to test my findings, use a creel, have it show the last item you fish out, put the fragment in your inventory after each cast, then take note.
If anyone wants to take things further, take in consideration the constellation size, time remaining and number of matched stars. To make it easier to keep track, take a screenshot of the constellation to see both the number of total stars and time remaining in the same picture.
I'm going to reword that sentence to reflect my tests.
P.S. I'm not sure if the accuracy of matching the stars is a factor. I noticed you can get away with a small deviation from perfection but I don't think it affects the score. I could be wrong.
