Tools not requiring owner's presence

I just randomly added someone today to help him out with his Refining and Blacksmithing. After adding him to friends, I set the permissions on the Anvil and Furnace to 'Anyone'. A short while later, I took a moongate somewhere else to buy ego food, and wondered if he was in my Homestead trying to use the tools. Turns out as I entered, I saw him in the middle of the Blacksmithing animation, and he said that he'd been using it without me there. Can anyone else confirm this?
