Manolin Quest Reward--Appears as though I recieved a Life Exploration Rod as a reward instead of a mako shark.

Strange thing happened. I gave Manolin the Striped Marlin and completed the quest. I did not receive the mako shark. Instead I received the Life Exploration Fishing Rod and +2 AP. My last time fishing was twelve hours ago, this marlin was an old one in my inventory. I have already caught 28 fish in my collection journal but was having issues since most of the fish were caught beforehand. Strange thing is, it appears Manolin gave it to me. I clicked to accept his quest. Found a random striped marlin in a pet inventory. Talked to him and completed the quest. Again, I did not receive any other item or mako shark from him. I received the Life Exploration Fishing Rod and +2 AP as though I had finished the Inscription thing which to the best of my knowledge, isn't working for my character. In my system log, it says:

Quest Objective for Manolin's Revenge complete
Obtained [Life Exploration Fishing Rod].
Ability Points +2

Shouldn't I have received a different system message if it was rewarded for the Inscription thing, and where is my mako shark?
