Proposal to change the Erg Break material list on: https://wiki.mabinogiworld.com/view/Erg to the following:

I am not an expert on wikimedia templating so there is probably some possible improvements. I am open to any advice on improving these if someone is willing to point me in the right direction. Also feel free to add suggestions.

Page has been updated to include all the Ergs. Notable change is that many weapon types actually had the exact same requirements, so those have been condensed, you can verify this yourself if you don't believe me.

If no suggestions or reasons not to push this change forward are brought up by today, I will probably start moving the page names and changing the actual Erg page.

Suggestions before you make these changes:

  • Don't have the table hidden or at the very least leave the tabs visible.
  • Replace the ranks with Erg 5->6, Erg 10->11 etc for more clarity.
  • Change 1 and 2 to Material 1, Material 2. Change 3 to Divine Mineral Fragments. Change 4 to Erg Material. Change 5 to Equipment. Change 6 to Weapon.
  • Change the tabs so that they don't get cut off and loop weird (I'm not sure how you could achieve this but honestly this is probably my least favorite aspect of this table).

Make to double check which items share sacrifices before updating main space.

Additionally, this got me thinking that I'd be interested in some color coding or icon usage to increase accessibility. Don't worry about this too much.

It also might be better not to combined similar Erg requirements (since similar requirements might still award different bonuses) and since different types of weapons cannot transfer their erg (i.e. Bows are not Crossbows for the sake of Erg Transfer).

  • Don't have the table hidden or at the very least leave the tabs visible.
    • I will probably just remove the hidden template then because I do not want to have a hidden template for each table.
  • Replace the ranks with Erg 5->6, Erg 10->11 etc for more clarity.
    • The rank system in my opinion is fine, it is consistent with the current state of the erg page, and just above, it shows the max Erg level per rank already. I will leave that for someone else to change if they disagree.
  • Change 1 and 2 to Material 1, Material 2. Change 3 to Divine Mineral Fragments. Change 4 to Erg Material. Change 5 to Equipment. Change 6 to Weapon.
    • Im ok with some of the label changes, but 5 star galbi is not equippable.
  • Change the tabs so that they don't get cut off and loop weird (I'm not sure how you could achieve this but honestly this is probably my least favorite aspect of this table).
    • The tabs not looping is something that would have to change with the tabs template themselves (or another template could be used but I'm not familiar with designing my own enough to do that). I will leave that as is as it is not a significant change from the current page.
  • Make to double check which items share sacrifices before updating main space.
    • I have no comment, I said to verify yourself if you don't believe me. I wouldn't say that if I didn't check.
  • It also might be better not to combined similar Erg requirements (since similar requirements might still award different bonuses) and since different types of weapons cannot transfer their erg (i.e. Bows are not Crossbows for the sake of Erg Transfer).
    • I'm a firm believe in less is more. Less tabs => better. Less storage consumed, less data pages, less for people to remember. Also, I don't believe that it should have ever been assumed that they could be transferred between each other. The transfer section already mentions that bows and crossbows are not the same types, that can be expanded.

If you did go with the hidden text code you could have three tables to ease up the tabs, "Dual Gun, Shuriken, Chainblades, Control Bars" "Bows & Crossbows, Wands & Staves, Cylinders" "Knuckles, Two-handed Close Combat Weapons & Lances, One-handed Close Combat Weapons & Atlatl" (based on similar sacrifice items and weapon types). In looking at this I also noticed the last two R-Upped weapons for Dual Guns are not written the same as all other instances.

I believe this is the relevant code for hiding the info if you wanted to use it.
|contents1={{HiddenTextHeader
|Title=Dual Guns
|Width=400px
|Display=
}}

the data was just hard copied from erg, I can fix that though.

wrapping the contents in their own hiddentextheader is the current implementation and it is undesired, because I absolutely despise the fact that I have to click 'show' for each individual tab. The only compromise I'd be willing to make is having three hidden tables with tabs. e.g.

Alternatively, having a tab with no content at as the default could also be done. e.g.

Your final version looks great!

Quite a few people think the tables look incredibly ugly in comparison to what was there before. I don't see any reason why you would need to change them to tables when it was easier to check things and more mobile friendly before.

Thank you for saying something, but commenting on this post does not mean you should immediately copy and paste the old version of the Erg page 3 minutes after.

There were additional changes to the page in addition to changing it to the table. If you prefer the old view, then at least accommodate the new changes, thanks.

The only other changes were changing "hidden" to "hide" in the ugly tables that were added. I would suggest learning to check things like that before making edits to the wiki in general. Nobody uses these forums, which should be clear from how active it is, so it would probably be best to check the official discord before making changes like this when you aren't sure how to make things look clean!
