The exacts on gold and exp rewards are not totally clear, but here are some tests I did that I think nail it down.
Starting at checkpoint 11 -
Defeating 0 enemeis and losing - 0 gold and exp
Defeating 1 spider archer and losing - 14k gold, 20k exp
Starting at checkpoint 16 -
Defeating 0 enemies and losing - 0 gold and exp
Defeating 1 fire sprite and losing - 21k gold, 30k exp
Defeating multiple enemies and losing - 21k gold, 30k exp
Clearing wave 16 and some of 17 - 28k gold, 40k exp
So from this, it's clear that we don't get the exp for all the previous waves just by starting at the checkpoint.
It kinda looks this..
Starting at checkpoint 11 gives 7k gold and 10k exp for having checkpoints 6 and 11 (14k gold, 20k exp total, plus 7k/10k per wave cleared after that)
Starting at checkpoint 16 gives 7k gold and 10k for having checkpoints 6, 11, and 16 (21k gold, 30k exp total, plus 7k/10k per wave cleared after that)
BUT you have to kill at least one monster to get the 'checkpoint starting bonus'.
Please add any tests or corrections here for reference.
This does mean, if you have tickets stockpiled, you can start at the highest checkpoint you like, kill one monster, then hide in the corner until the crystal dies. Doing this over and over again for cash with no equipment durability loss.
