Python Knight and Shadow Spirit

I heard from a few people that the only way to damage Python Knight now is with Shadow Spirit. Witness said nothing did jack to him even after being hit by Shadow Spirit.
Glitch? Shadow Spirit not reducing defense/protection now? Or...?
