G13 and Beginner Quests

G13 and Beginner Quests

It's becoming clear that G13 is integrated with the Human Uladh Beginner Quest line.

For newly created characters, after "Watching Deian's Sheep", you are allowed to start G13 ("The Tragic Bard" is given to you). You can't continue the beginner quests until Act 1 is completed (through Polonius's Request). Then, it halts progress on G13 (you don't get the next quest), and it allows one to continue the beginner quests through "Duncan's Praise". Similarly, when that quest is done, the beginner quest line is halted again, and "Ancient Avon Relic" is finally offered to you. I'm still playing through to make sure of everything, but they are clearly interlinked (and G13 Basic is easy enough for a brand new character to handle, too). As G13 starts, it's even based in either Avon and Tir Chonnail (more proof for the theory that it's the new beginner quest line).

Also, not sure where I should have put this, but has anyone else noticed that the dungeons for G13 and the beginner quests consistently have a certain piece of equipment in the end chest...?

  • "The Tragic Bard" gives Fighter Light Leather Mail (according to your gender).
  • "Avon" gives Soldier Waterdrop Cap.
  • "Horatio's Dagger" gives Fox Tamer's Teeth-patterned Ankle Boots.
  • "Horatio's Dagger" puts you through an even easier version of Ciar Beginner and forces you to get "the Golem Slayer" title. Is this another attempt at giving the player "equipment" to work with early on?
  • The beginner quest "Malcolm's Ring" gives Cruces Robe.
  • "The Bard's Flute" gives Fox Hunter's Terk's Open-Finger Gloves.

This is what I've found so far (after doing this chain of quests on three new characters and getting these items each time, there may be more later).

It seems that devCAT is trying to outfit beginners with some decent equipment?

I need your thoughts on verifying this information, and after that, where to put this information.

Thanks.

Seems that all Beginner quests are tied to G13 because my newly created giant and elf didn't get g13 quest yet with no beginner quest finished. Also the rewards may be slightly different. My giant that fits into the Alby beginner difficulty got a Fighter Pirta Leather Armor. Also the stuff from dungeons come from only the beginner versions of the dungeons.

I'm not exactly sure, I think my lv. 150 intermediate character got the items too.

All I've done so far is the Human Uladh. If no one else gets around to it, I'll edit the Giant and Elf ones as well, but later.

And yes, the items vary depending on race and gender-- they just give you stuff that you can actually wear.

Well Intermediate characters get the Beginner dungeons, go look at the Walkthrough (aka the non-talk page). So if you're Advanced or Hard mode, you won't get the items from dungeons.

A glitch perhaps? My advance difficulty characters got only enchant scrolls from Alby and Ciar, but did get the gloves from Rundal

The drops are defiantly deliberate from the beginner dungeons in the real world, but they only give the specials items to the first one to open the chest (not sure about this but it happened to me). I went in with a friend and then i opened a chest first and i got a set of leather armor, even though i have a total level or 200+, and he got normal dungeon drops. --Dragonkiri 01:50, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
