IIRC Auto Defense doesn't reduce damage; Passive Defense does that.

Speaking of which, might Transformation Mana Deflector reduce damage?

Nope. :X

So it seems like only Shield/Armor Mastery's passive pinging lowers the damage of Mineral Hail.

Neither defending with a shield or using Transformation reduce the damage of it.
