User talk:Demaetri/Icebolt Experiment

From Mabinogi World Wiki

Please use this page for questions, comments, and concerns regarding the experiment drawn up on the previous page.--Demaetri 21:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I've done some quick experimentation on the Ice Shield, but it was done on a whim and unfortunately none of it was recorded. The following numbers may be inaccurate.

Basically I was testing Icebolt and Ice Spear against rank F Ice Shield. An unshielded Icebolt did in the high 90s and low 100s on average. A shielded one did in the low to high 90s which suggests around a 10% reduction. Now for Ice Spear, I only shot it once for unshielded and once for shielded, both at full charge. The unshielded one did a little over 1000 damage while the shielded one did somewhere in the 700s, a 25-30% reduction.

If these numbers are correct (and admittedly, the 700 damage Ice Spear seems a bit fuzzy in my mind), it seems that the Ice Shield reduced damage much more effectively against Ice Spear. This can suggest one of two things. Either damage reduction is on a logarithmic scale, where the higher damage the attack, the more damage is reduced, or shielding is more effective against advanced magic. You may want to find a partner with Ice Spear and a good chunk of time in order to test this as well. --Blargel 15:11, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
It doesn't realy matter if those numbers are correct. Unlike IceBolt, Ice Spear has a large damage range so, unless the caster's ballance is either 100% or 0%, you would to get the average of a lot more than 1 trials to get a meaningful figure.--Sozen Cratos Focker 09:24, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

damage multipliers

The list of "var2"s(the entries in skillleveldetail.xml which seem most likely to be the damage reduction amounts for magic shields) on your icebolt experiment are the ones from Natural Magic Shield. The following are the #s from var2 for Ice Magic Shield:
RN = .1
RF = .1
RE = .13
RD = .16
RC = .2
RB = .23
RA = .26
R9 = .33
R8 = .36
R7 = .4
R6 = .35
R5 = .5
R4 = .53
R3 = .56
R2 = .6
R1 = .7
It looks like the fire and lightning shields have the same numbers for var2 as ice, the range shield is the only one that's lower. --Sozen Cratos Focker 09:24, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
