Smugglers

I've only seen one NPC as a smuggler; Byrun is his name. Plus, it seems that the Today'S Item doesn't preserve your Merchant, but rather 'it doubles the ducats of the items you smuggle to it after smuggling today's item.' I'll upload a pic of his convos later...

Plus, it seems he disappears at 6:00 AM sharp. I don't know when he generally appears, though.

I have a question: if your merchant rating goes all the way down to 0, will it lose a level?

Infodude57513:05, 8 April 2012

Eh, I have no idea. I traded on my main, so I don't know.

Deletion13:08, 8 April 2012

Where DID you find the smuggler? I haven't even seen one in all my routes.

Infodude57509:31, 15 April 2012

They're everywhere, mostly off the road. Like, WAAAAYY off.

Deletion13:51, 15 April 2012

Like in Spiral Hill and stuff?

Infodude57515:05, 15 April 2012

Like Gairech's Reighinalt, but far away in a corner.

Few more Qs:

  • What is "Today's Item"? I don't see any being marked with that.
  • How strong are the Bandits guarding it? What rank?
  • Is it worth trading with Smugglers?
  • I'll ask again, does rating drop a level?
Infodude57516:38, 15 April 2012

Rating does drop a level if it reaches under 0%. You can see the smuggler sell prices when buying (not when selling), so if they're a better price and closer than the town, then it is, if you're overflowing with credit.

Pyro - (Talk)16:55, 15 April 2012

Define "overflowing".

Infodude57516:58, 15 April 2012

Level 9 and with around 50%? It depends on whose talking.

Pyro - (Talk)17:01, 15 April 2012

Wait, what? I lose that much!?

Infodude57517:15, 15 April 2012

No, but I have at least that much at the time to be on the safe side. I think how much you lose may depend on towns, what commodities, and etc. Like gaining credit.

Pyro - (Talk)17:17, 15 April 2012

Nah, I think the rating loss is proportional to the profit you make while smuggling.

Deletion17:57, 15 April 2012

Okay lets get some more data on smugglers. =w= I haven't even been able to find one so far. Do they always spawn in the same spot if the description of the spot is the same? (i.e. will "South of Taillteann" always be the same spot) also, what do they even look like? A picture would be nice, maybe even an NPC page (there is a page for tree after all)

My friends and I have been playing with the smuggler for the past couple days... The first notice about the smuggler spawn appears at 7PM in-game, he spawns at 10PM, and he disappears at 6AM. Your town credit loss is equal to 2x the profit you make selling to him, and the today's item is stated in the scrolling notice that gives you his spawn location. Only the first trade with the today's item gives no credit loss, and it's once per real-time day, so even if you trade him the today's item on a different in-game night, you still lose credit if it's the same real day.

Also, either he doesn't spawn every night, or not every merchant player gets the scrolling notice every time, because some days I got nothing.

Acknowitall10:38, 16 April 2012

According to Mabidata, scrolling only occurs if you're a Merchant.

Infodude57520:17, 16 April 2012

I am merchant, but I don't get the notice every night. The trading posts still had a smuggler price listed even on the nights where I didn't get the scrolling, so I'm not sure if he spawns anyway.

Acknowitall23:10, 16 April 2012

Is he like Price, spawning at various random locations on Uladh?

Infodude57510:24, 17 April 2012

Yeah, he's pretty much the same as Price, just a different set of locations.

Acknowitall10:33, 17 April 2012

I'm a merchant and I've been trying to find him some nights, never found him, if all those who do run across him could put a screenshot of a map with his location marked we could see if he has fixed positions for each location which would be really helpful.

Galabear11:19, 17 April 2012

Also to note agrrement with the above poster. Alerts for smuggler arriving and leaving are at, 7PM Is going to arrive, 10PM Has arrived, 3AM is going to leave, 6AM Has left. I think you have to be logged on for a certain amount of time before you get the alert. Requires more investigation.

Galabear11:30, 17 April 2012

Another thing: Bandits? I spotted him and there were just 5 bandit ambush spots around him like an arc. I slipped through them, traded, and no bandits spawned?

Infodude57519:02, 19 April 2012

Smugglers just have a lot of bandits surrounding them, nothing special happens when you talk to byrun. Also, from my few experiences with our dear friend Byrun, it seems that his information is misleading concerning the daily good:

  • Trading the daily good to byrun will net you double profit and no merchant loss for THAT good only. You can't buy just one daily good and load up on better selling goods.
  • The daily good may change each erinn day, but you can only get the daily good benefit once per real day.

The best thing to do would be to wait until a profitable good becomes daily'd and then you sell that for doubled profit.
