The Protection Charm

The official guide implies that you have to go back and talk to Eavan/Aodhan after G3 and return the ring. When I did G3 I didn't get the chain (it was back in pioneers) and I no longer own a human. Can somebody confirm this? The page says you lose the ring automatically, with no mention of returning to the NPC.

“	If you are a Male character, talk to Eavan for the [Protection Ring] quest; If you are a Female character, talk to Aodhan for the same quest. It is not a required quest, so you will be able to go straight to the final dungeon. However, you will have to complete the [Protection Ring] quest in order to see the ending with the NPC.	„

Sounds more like a cutscene rather than just talking to the NPC...

luckily I just recently finished G3 with a friend. He was really pissed to lose the protection charm after finishing it lol...
