Well. I was checking my friends journal, she's an elf, but it says she has 'Hurray for King Krug!' Possibly, it's a helper elf and her human has giant? She has another human which is giant. I'll check up on details.

When you switch alliance for one of your characters, you switch alliance for all your characters, therefore the elf is then considered giant allied, and receives the achievement, but it is still an elf and receives anything an elf would.
