Asking for help with editing on the IRC channel is perfectly legit. Just tell the reader to actually say something and then linger around for a few minutes instead of leaving after 10 seconds. We need time to realize there's a new message in a chat room since (hopefully) no one is just staring at the chat waiting for new people to come in.
