Description

Gavin is the Event NPC that hosted the The Secrets of the Commerce Champion Event. Gavin's late grandfather found a guide called The Secrets of the Commerce Champion which Gavin used to live out his and his grandfather's dream of becoming the Commerce Champion. On his initial trade route, bandits robbed him. Distraught, Gavin still hopes that some Milletian can still use the knowledge of the book to become the Commerce Champion.

The Secrets of the Commerce Champion (Spoilers)

Gavin gradually opens up to the player as they participate in the Event, revealing that his friend Rhys went missing after the robbery. Enlisting the help of his grandfather's friend and old trading partner Marl, Gavin learns that Rhys actually has joined the bandits that robbed the two of them.

Gavin decides to confront Rhys about this with the player, and is nearly robbed by him and his bandit partners. Saddened by this, Gavin decides to do away with the The Secrets of the Commerce Champion and arranges for Marl to use his bandit contacts to give Rhys the book he thinks Rhys is after. Just as Marl is given the book by Gavin, two groups of bandits attack and it is revealed that Marl hired bandits to originally rob Gavin and Rhys of the book. Rhys learned this after he infiltrated the bandit society and realized that Marl's bandits were nowhere to be seen. The player, Rhys, and Rhys' bandit friends battle Marl and his bandits and win. The bandits promptly disown Rhys afterwards, in order to allow him to rejoin normal society and return to regular commerce with Gavin.

At the end of the Event, everyone discovers from Commerce Joe that the book was written about the Milletians that helped during the Champions of Commerce Event to set up Iria's commerce and that the author is none other than Commerce Joe himself.

Trivia

• The Traveler Outfit (M) provides socks but Gavin is not wearing any shoes. This is despite the fact that Gavin is standing outside.
• Gavin's late grandfather found a copy of The Secrets of the Commerce Champion. This is odd considering:
  • The book is revealed to have been written by Commerce Joe based on how the Milletians helped set up Iria for Commerce.
  • The event the book is based on, Champions of Commerce, directly preceded The Secrets of the Commerce Champion Event.
  • Gavin's grandfather thus had nearly no time to acquire the book and pass away given the timespan without temporal anomalies.
  • Gavin even describes the copy as "old" implying that a period of significant time passed.
• Gavin mentions that another Milletian suggested clicking "the Trading Post Emblem button at the bottom left of the screen" to access the book.
