Meryl appears in an otherworldly space in Port Ceann created out of the Mirror Compass that the Milletian inadvertently helped to find for an impostor Kristell. She offers to help the Milletian investigate the ships emerging in the otherworldly space, if they accompany her to one of the ships.
After fighting off Skeletons invading the port, Meryl takes the Milletian aboard the ships. At the end of the ship, the Milletian finds a paper and the impostor Kristell who flees after a battle, but Meryl had vanished. Back at the port the Milletian finds Meryl, who states that she went into hiding after hearing the fight. She then takes the paper and deduces it to be a log entry or diary, but is too worn to be deciphered.
After repeating the ship entry and finding the paper four more times, Meryl looks depressed and reveals the contents of the logs. They explain about a musician, their grandfather and their people, with a goal to sail to Erinn. The musician's father, Partholon[1], creates a rebellion, unable to chose between their father and their grandfather, they mention nothing, which results in their grandfather's death. Opposing their father, he leaves them and the others to die, leaving them on the ship without a map nor a compass to sail to safety. A storm wipes out the rest of the fleet, leaving only the musician and the remaining crewmen. With no resources left, the crewmen turn against each other. The musician accepts the situation as their punishment for going against their father and wishes for their grandfather to save them.
After noting the emptiness of the ship's ballroom, Meryl betrays the Milletian and attacks them, revealing to be the impostor Kristell and the person in the logs, with the intent to kill the Milletian to bring her people to Erinn. When pushed into a corner, the impostor refuses to perish and reveals her true form, Laighlinne, and defeats the Milletian. However, she realizes her anger only causes more pain and ceases her attack, releasing the Milletian and turning the fleet away.
Afterwards, Laighlinne intends to accept her fate, noting that some of her fleet's descendants have already made it to Erinn. However, she is then attacked by a dark force, her grandfather Sera, who intends to "do what must be done."
