Giving Inedible Foods

I gave my maid an Angler Fish, which "cannot be eaten raw", and Salmon and Bluefin Tuna also show up on items to gift. A Shrimp and Salt didn't appear, though.

It looks like there isn't a restriction to giving them some inedible foods. Is it just to fish, I wonder?

Given as in "Feed Pet"? I get "No adequate item exists" message with any inedible fish in my inventory.
