Request Working <Math></Math> tag
It useful for various articles with formulas such as the int bonus forumla, exp table, dual wield damage calculation, etc. The formulas are messy without it. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Math for details --Hengsheng120 22:37, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it's not working and gave this error message:
Failed to parse (Missing texvc executable; please see math/README to configure.)
If it's too much hassle for you, then forget it, deactivate the tag if you want.--黄恒升 ☞ 评论 ☜ 18:22, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- I notice that to install OCaml to build the thing, it wants to draw a LOT of dependencies onto the machine I do not want installed, notably X, which is ridiculous. I can still do it, but I'm doing it at home since I do not want X installed on my colo. --Irjustman 18:43, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- I now have the binary installed. Plese let me know if this needs to be changed in order for this to work. Thanks. --Irjustman 18:12, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Spam Accounts
Looks like we had a recent spam account attack. Thought you may want to look into it. You can see it on the Block Log. ---Angevon 23:41, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up on this. I'm looking at setting up a GeoIP-based block so I can block entire countries because they seem to be coming mainly from Russia and the Ukraine. I don't know if we really want to allow access to these countries or even the rest of RIPE IP space as well as LACNIC and AFRINIC IP space since they are not licensed for Mabinogi. Thoughts? --Irjustman 02:03, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I was going to say, but when I saw one, I figured there was more. This is a first though, the first time i've seen 'bot advertising' outside of MMORPG games.. I learn something new everyday on this wiki.--♫ѕταя♪ 02:40, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think, we shouldnt becuase Mabinogi australia and europe is up next and they need to smuggle information liek we did with japan. Right? But that's just my opinion. -- կրակEmber Incubus (խոսելTalk | օգնությունContributes)
- Australia isn't "next" at all. Australia is already being served by the North American server, as is the rest of "Oceania", which includes New Zealand. Though a few people in the #mabinogi channel on PPirC have stated that we should really only block those countries which are generating the spam. Well, we can discuss that more as I figure out how to make mod_geoip work (via a test site). --Irjustman 03:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Very well. But doesnt australia have a maplestory? -- կրակEmber Incubus (խոսելTalk | օգնությունContributes)
- Irrelevant. This is Mabinogi we're talking about, not MapleStory. --Irjustman 03:23, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- I find these articles to be useful for playing on foreign servers such as CN, TW, and JP mabi, which all allow global access to the game as long as you can provide an id number of the respective country for registration. I suppose you can block those countries if you want since it does not affect me at all. But wouldn't a better solution be implementing a spam filter bot?--黄恒升 ☞ 评论 ☜ 01:39, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Let's put it this way. You were the one who reported the load spikes due to template modifications. If a bot's going to incur considerable load, do the math. Unless, of course, you can afford a new server that can handle the load. I hate to grump like this, but until I have something with a bit more processing horsepower, I need to economize on processing power. The template fan-out issue is not helping in this department. Thank you for understanding. --Irjustman 02:40, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- UPDATE: I have put up a GeoIP-based block on Russian and Ukrainian IP blocks. I am not withdrawing these unless presented with a VERY good reason to, which I doubt will ever materialize. --Irjustman 09:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

User Classification
Are all users automaticly autoconfirmed users? -- կրակEmber Incubus (խոսելTalk | օգնությունContributes)
- Sorry for taking so long, but I'm assuming this has to do with the recent spamming issues I'm seeing from Russia and the Ukraine? As of right now, those IP blocks are now not permitted to even browse the site normally until I can figure out how to secure account signup, plus allow for being able to view the policy as well as receiving acknowledgment that the user has read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the policies of this site. --Irjustman 09:22, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- No I am refering to autoconfirmed users listed in List Group Rights. -- կրակEmber Incubus (խոսելTalk | օգնությունContributes)
- Okay, I gotcha. I believe that new users are, in fact, placed into that group by default. Curious, where does this question stem from? --Irjustman 08:32, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. I want dated signatures. That way I can follow any conversations we have here. If you want to use your custom signature, add five tildes (i.e. ~~~~~) to insert the current time. I guess I'll have to revise my page's rules. The sigh... --Irjustman 08:34, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Re: Greeting
I also thought his message suggested he was an admin or mod, although his "Greeting" had poor grammar lol. You may seem quiet for a sysop (and I mean your not a dictator lol) but your definitely on the ball. Also, I didn't see your message under his, sorry. --ZRoc (Talk) 08:24, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Templates
In regard to the use of your server's resources when a change to a template is 'fanned' out to associated pages; does it take more resources to fan out a change from a style template than it does from a data template? I dont know anything about wikis but from a little (very little lol) experience with other programs, usually templates (or their equivalent) used significantly more resources passing styles or formats than they did for raw data, variables or expressions. If this is the case, then data templates (without any formatting) could still be useful for the central location of data and have the style templates reduced in usage (leave the formatting of data into tables, lists or whatever as hard coding on each page). If you dont know or it makes no difference then disregard my dumb suggestion XD --ZRoc (Talk) 07:25, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- I suggest we use this to warn anyone, (and not following it become blocked), so we don't have to protect the page when new monsters (and monster skills) are being added all the time.
Template:Highrisk maybe you can add little more reprimand? --Hengsheng120(talk•contribs) 03:20, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Out and about presently. Will look at it in greater detail when I get home. Thanks for the heads-up! --Irjustman 22:09, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Grouped References
On the MediaWiki site, the "Grouped references" section on the page Extension:Cite, states it is possible to group references seperately from others. I tried using their code on the Collecting Quests page (I wanted the referenced notes for the "Collecting Cooking Ingredients" and the "Collecting Black Orb Fragments" sections kept seperately on the bottom of each section), however this only produced an error message about not using parameters in a reference. Note, this would also be useful if a page had referenced notes and citations, by allowing them to be listed seperately. Am I doing something wrong or does this wiki not allow grouped references? Its probably something dumb I've done (as I dont know much about wikis) so sorry if I am bugging you =3 --ZRoc (Talk) 17:14, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Not at all. I'll take a look at it when I get home. --Irjustman 22:09, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you =D --ZRoc (Talk) 23:08, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- The deed is (hopefully) done. Made sure you could use grouped references, plus while I was at it and at the site, I picked up the most recent version of Cite. Let me know how things go whether it works or not. Thanks! --Irjustman 01:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Screaming: Yes it works! Thank you so much XD
- The grouped reference tags won't allow multiple uses of the same reference which the normal reference tag does. However, this appears to be a limit of the code from what MediaWiki indicates and I can easily work around it. Thank you again, your one cool sysop =3 --ZRoc (Talk) 04:24, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Very cool. Guess I can call this one closed. :D --Irjustman 04:29, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Direct Hotlink
It looks like you can hotlink flash videos (directly from other websites) on the DFO World Wiki (Example) with the oflash file tag. I noticed this does not work here. I think hot-linking videos can be useful to show skill animations. It seems that many major video websites (like YouTube) encourages people to hotlink/embed the videos. If hotlinking video files is also discouraged like hotlinking images, I'm wondering why DFO world wiki is allowing video hotlinks but not here (I know it's probably turned off by default).--Hengsheng120(talk•contribs) 03:47, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm i just noticed you own both wikis. Then, can you activate .flv hotlink on this wiki?--Hengsheng120(talk•contribs) 03:55, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I don't "own" either wiki. I just host them both. I'll check on that item now. --Irjustman 03:57, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Can you give me a link of what uses that? I need to make sure I know what I need. Thanks. --Irjustman 04:02, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not sure what you mean if the Example above from http://wiki.dfo-world.com/index.php?title=Venom_Mine doesn't give enough info. There also a non video swf audio file there too. [1] --Hengsheng120(talk•contribs) 04:06, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

- Argh, PLEASE take it easy with the edits, damn it! Either preview it or stop editing my talk page. I'm tired of having to figure out when you're going to lay something down. Get it done in one edit if you can, please! --Irjustman 04:27, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- And the link you have up there in question has NOTHING to do with what we're trying to accomplish. This concerns Wikimedia Foundation-hosted material. And we do need to make sure we have permission to hotlink to material from those sites. If the site(s) in question allow(s) hotlinking, great. If it's on YouTube, even better; use the code any such videos use for embedding (assuming the video(s) in question allows embedding). However, I do not want to host any of the material in question. They eat up tons of bandwidth and disk space. --Irjustman 04:36, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. Yea it was confusing when the oflash tag was activated and blanked all the conversion on this page do to lack of parameters. was trying to figure out what happened. I'll try to limit my messy editing on user pages, but i get really pissed when all my work is gone because I dced, wiki stops responding, or used back/forward button on preview (think ie8 and chrome incompatible with the wiki, but sometimes i have to use it). The flash files can be easily hosted on download sites like mediafire and streamed from it.--Hengsheng120(talk•contribs) 22:41, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Starting last night, accounts created in June this year have been creating user pages with links to unwelcome sites, et cetera. The recently banned accounts are Jilleneebutlerb (joined June 8th), Richardsonhkvx (joined June 14th), Luisejvelezo (joined June 13th), and Cindagreillyf (joined June 11th). Video Extension
Previously, I've requested a direct hotlink for videos. However, there seems to be a bit too much work involved in getting the videos up as it requires one to download the video first and host it onto one's web server, since major video streaming and file hosting websites do not allow you to direct hotlink and only embed.
This make it relatively difficult for the average person to put videos on the wiki because most people do not have a connection speed as fast as mine and do not like downloading and uploading large files (and finding a good free web hosting service). Although I didn't mind doing that work, I don't want to be the only one who knows how to put videos up on the wiki in my absence.
So I'm asking if you can consider allowing FramedVideo on this wiki. This will allow the embedding of videos from major external websites on the wiki, and much less work to put a video up, allowing more people to contribute. However, the down side is that it will allow every video imaginable to be viewed inside the wiki, which may draw concerns of vandalism and inappropriate content. I'm not sure if you'd really want this on your wiki though.--Hengsheng120(talk•contribs) 11:42, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- It will have to wait until a little later. I'm at work right now. --Irjustman 18:35, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Now that I understand it's not about posting your char but is there a way were I can make a copy of this site so the copy can be made for posting your char and cahtting and showing off skills??
- I'll retrieve the one in your "PepRay" account. Apparently, usernames are case-sensitive (i.e. "PepRay" and "Pepray" are NOT the same).
- Also, please sign and date anything you write on these pages. Use a ~~~~ to do this. This aids in locating past correspondence. --Irjustman 04:13, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- God, I should have looked at your other page. I have changed my mind. I'm locking your page AND your accounts. Please do not use this wiki anymore if that is how you are going to conduct yourself. --Irjustman 04:51, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Site Note
Okay, I don't know the timezones so is that our town's time? - A Random User 02:02, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- You and I are both in Fresno (as are both the servers which host the wiki), though you're probably closer to Clovis. So we're in the same time zone, US Pacific (PST8PDT). --Irjustman 02:04, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- What do you mean both servers? Is there two servers in this wiki? - A Random User 02:05, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- I dont know if this helps but the Mabinogi World Wiki uses Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) which is 7 hours ahead of your local time Pacific Daylight Saving Time (PDT). For example, 4PM on this wiki (UTC) will be 9AM in your local time (PDT). Note that UTC does not use daylight saving, so when daylight saving ends for you then the wiki will only be 6 hours ahead of your local time. --ZRoc (Talk) 15:57, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

- I'm sorry, I didn't know who to ask and I don't read user pages unless directly asked to. - A Random User 03:59, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'll put it plainly. If you want Mabinogi gameplay-related info from me, you're a lot better off asking someone else. I only play the game once every other week or so. And frankly, you would do well to read others' pages. Many will tell you what they do, what they specialize in or what they're not good at. I'll be blunt: I suck at this game. I don't play it, it's not my kind of game. How much more explicit do I need to get? Huh?! --Irjustman 04:04, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
- I'll tell you an even better place to ask general questions. The forums. That site is, by far, your absolute best place to socialize for things related to Mabinogi and to ask questions like this. --Irjustman 05:01, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

- Went to my user page's preferences (called "my preferences" at the top-right of my user page).
- The first tab is "User Profile", I was on that tab when I opened "my preferences" and it's where I made the changes.
- Went down to the "Signature" section on the "User Profile" tab. In the "Signature" section's text input box I put;
[[User:ZRoc|ZRoc]] ([[User_talk:ZRoc|Talk]])
If there was something already in there then I replaced it. It would only have been my default signature if anything was in there (can't remember if it was blank or not).
- Under the text input box is a check box followed by the statement "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)", I made sure that the check box was ticked (I think it wasn't ticked by default and my new signature didn't link to my user or talk pages).
- The "Talk" part of "User_talk:ZRoc|Talk" can of course be changed to anything, e.g., "Discussion", "Don't talk to me!" (lol), etc. But I thought short, sweet and to the point was best XD

Re: Signatures and text not in English
I just saw your message there. Yes we were a penal colony, most of our politicians can trace their ancestry back to some long dead convict and they are just as big a bunch of lying, greedy thieves. They bow and scrape to the Queen of England when most of us would rather she and her family didn't bother to visit. A recent poll showed that most Aussies would like to belong to a republic instead of being in a grovelling constitutional monarchy pretending to be a democracy. Do we want to annoy the British, damn right we do! Sadly, the politicians would rather have a "Knight of the Realm" title for their questionable services to Australia than a "Done His/Her Bit For the Republic" title (just doesn't have the same ring to it, I guess).
Also, its probably best to use the language of the people this wiki is mainly intended for, and people living in North America are the greatest users of Mabinogi NA. As you said either Queen's or Merkin's (checked what that exactly meant on Wikipedia and got a page about a unique wig lol) English are easily understood, as long as people dont use slang *offers wreath on memes' mass grave and says a small thank you* XD --ZRoc (Talk) 18:06, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
