Rename to?

Rename to?

"Mana Drain" seriously bugs me because we all know that it makes absolutely no sense as to what the skill does. Anyone want to petition for a new name?

Infodude575 (talk)20:51, 15 April 2013

I call it mana conversion since it uses mana from the magic to grow and regenerate...Drain works too I guess.

S•A•R•I•A (talk)20:56, 15 April 2013

I really don't see how Drain works. Its not stealing anyone's mana. >.>

Infodude575 (talk)21:04, 15 April 2013

You drain the mana from the magic and turn it into power...?

S•A•R•I•A (talk)21:44, 15 April 2013

That doesn't make any sense!

Infodude575 (talk)22:52, 15 April 2013

Icebolt = Mana.

Mana Drain = Drain Mana.

Mana Drain = Drain Icebolt.

It drains lightning bolt too, though.
How about Mana Conversion? Spell Absorption?

LittlesnowEU (talk)00:12, 16 April 2013

IB was just an example. I don't really care what this page ends up being called. Just wanted to make clear that the name is not so out-of-place as he made it sound.

Explain how it "drains mana" from Water Cannon when it uses STAMINA?

Infodude575 (talk)01:11, 16 April 2013

Uhm, but they don't drain Water Cannon...

LittlesnowEU (talk)01:31, 16 April 2013

Then why does the page say it does?

Infodude575 (talk)10:15, 16 April 2013

No idea, but I actually went to test it and I couldn't get flying swords to level up after spamming Water Cannon on them.

LittlesnowEU (talk)10:30, 16 April 2013

Are you hitting them from short range or maximum distance? They don't level if its a knockback attack.

Infodude575 (talk)17:26, 16 April 2013

6 times in a row without knocking back.

Whereas with icebolt, it only took me 2 bolts to level it.

LittlesnowEU (talk)05:09, 17 April 2013

I swear, before WC made it level...

Infodude575 (talk)19:56, 17 April 2013

Well...you see, if you want to be technically about it, it can drain the mana in the water and convert it to energy...but considering alchemy is a foreign concept, it doesn't know how to draw mana from it...that's my explanation and I'm sticking with it.

S•A•R•I•A (talk)11:52, 16 April 2013

Yea, the name is dumb, but no mater what we name it, it still won't make sense because we're referring to it as a skill.

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)00:47, 20 April 2013

How about Type Immunity? Seems pretty broad enough.

Pyro - (Talk)03:04, 20 April 2013

You don't technically gain immunity, though. And the ability doesn't really cover by type.

If it were up to me, since only so few are affected by this, the trigger differs per mob, and it's not technically a skill, I'd go for deleting this page and just listing the specific abilities on each mob's page, either under the general information or the specific mob.

My suggestion: Add a parameter to the monster template that, when set, would have the table display a small warning(probably in the form of a small picture made by the people who did the fake skill logos) near the monster's name and type logo or near the skill row (not actually inside the skill cell or we have to change it's name) to let the reader know that that monster has a rare or unique trait (or lacks a very common one like knockdown) that makes the rules of combat different. This parameter should make the notes&advice hidebox open by default.

Version 2: Have the parameter add a conditional row under the skills row explaining the monster's nonstandard traits.

Then we can finally get rid of all these fanfiction "skills" ("Advanced Heavy Stander", "Fast Regeneration", "Invulnerability", "Night Change", and "Mana Drain") that are only still here because we had a really bad troll problem at the time the first template with skill logos was implemented.

I was planning to make this suggestion last year, but I haven't gotten around to making the test templates to demonstrate it...

If people still insist on keeping this page, the name should be something like Nonstandard Conditional LVLing or "Automatic/Instant LVL Up, but my vote is for deleting it.
