Eluned's Fashionista Dress

Fragment of a discussion from User talk:Legiathan

The green one is not a jpeg and is a pure png. The original red ones are. Do not use the browser's built in zoom as it distorts it. Copying and pasting into an image editor clearly shows the quality difference.

thank you for finally providing SOME sort of explanation that doesnt assume incompetance, and actually provides a way for me to understand what the issue is. Opened with Paint and finally saw a difference, but I do still have one last question: If you have to zoom in THAT far to tell and go to such extensive lengths to see any difference, is it still worth replacing old images with new ones?

To be specific, as I have often been misunderstood, if you have to take an image out of the web browser and into an external program to tell the difference in quality, why does it matter enough to replace it?

Sometimes the difference is hard to tell, but it's still in the policies. It's more like we rather not have any exceptions, which may cause some people to have bad habits and take everything in jpg.

and I can promise you that some converted jpgs look really bad.

Jpegs can distort very small and fine details, such as the belt design on a Muffler Robe. Pure png's are preferred in order to see the finest of details with out distorting the image in any way.

It is harder for some people to notice the difference, such as yourself. Some other people can notice it immediately at full resolution, such as me 75% of the time. The thing about clothing pictures in particular is, unlike other images, people do look at and zoom in on pictures of clothing because they are debating whether or not they want to use that item.

When I first started contributing to the wiki years ago I had a really hard time telling the difference between jpg to png conversions and pure png images, and made plenty of mistakes because of it. To this day I think we continue to make mistakes here but learn from them quickly, and that is what Legiathan should do. Practice makes perfect!

That is my intention, yes. Thank you for the encouragement.
