User talk:Irjustman/Archived/2009/Q2
curiosity
just out of curiosity, how do you consider people as a moderator or admin? is it people you personally know or is it people you observe to have contributed and deemed responsible to uphold the talk? slayer1o1 00:18, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't. The actual wiki staff do. I just run the
machinemachines on which it's hosted. You might want to ask this on the forum in the wiki threads. Thanks. --Irjustman 00:21, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Question on why my friends wiki account was deleted
what did User:Spike541552 do to get his account deleted? the only altercation of anothers main page i know of was to mine but i gave him permission to do so --ACE1337 02:00, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- What you're describing for your own page is an "alteration". However, there was something I'd describe as an "altercation", notably he wiped velocity7's talk page clean. I would also call this, quite bluntly, "vandalism". This is a BIG-TIME no-no. If he wants to have his account reinstated, he'll need to post something in this thread with assurances he'll not only contribute positively to the wiki but that he won't vandalize it either. If it IS reinstated, I'm gonna watch him like a hawk. One step out of line and he's in VERY deep trouble. --Irjustman 07:32, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
hey am i allowed to make my page again? cuz i got my editing priveledges back
- That's for the wiki admins to decide. Even though this is my server we are talking about, it's not my site.
- As has been said, any such decision will be based directly on your performance in service to this wiki. Further, after the velocity7 talk page incident, you will be kept under pretty close surveillance. But it's a decision I cannot make on my own. However, thank you for asking. --Irjustman 04:50, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Correction for signatures
five tildes give just the date it was added, and by the sound of it it sounds like you wanted the name which is 4 tilde( ~~~~)
slayer1o1 14:59, 1 June 2009 (UTC) is four compared to five, 14:59, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
hate to sound like a know it all, sorry. slayer1o1 14:59, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Heh, oops, you are absolutely right. You do know a lot more than I do, so no need to apologize. :) Anyway, I moved your correction to its own section for the record. It was late when I was working on this, so I must've been a tiny bit bleary-eyed when I did that. So I shall feex it. --Irjustman 19:51, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Pictures
When you kept uploading the picture -- did it always appear the same? That seems to happens when you upload a new version of a file. It really is newer version, you just have to refresh a few times to see it. It may appear deformed on any pages the file is on, but that is fixed with refresh, too. --Aramet 20:29, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, blame my noobness to wikis for that. Just because I host it doesn't necessarily mean I know how to USE it. ;) Ah well, at least I got that straightened out and you've given me food for thought on the next one. Thanks. --Irjustman 20:30, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Heh, no problem. :) Happy to help. --Aramet 17:48, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Questions regarding pages with in-game dialogue, e.g. with an NPC
Open question to all editors:
Are you guys doing a full "[sic]" transcription of a given NPC's dialogue, even if it ends up having horribly-formed English to outright Engrish? If so and I see something odd in the included dialogue, I'll leave it alone, leaving it to you guys who, unlike me, actually play the game with some degree of regularity. ;) Thanks! --Irjustman 10:43, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- I know that's what we're doing for the "Descriptions" section of every pet page, which is taken straight of the website, but if people fix the engrish, that's fine. (Personally I don't want to spend the time spellchecking and grammarchecking Nexon's failures, but if others want to, I say let them). ---Angevon 16:58, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- usually when i spell check a page ill get everything in it. but if i dont spellcheck the page i wont worry about it, its kind of an all or nothing kind of thing. so when i get around to spell checking, ill fix the descriptions unless i notice it is really horrible. then ill fix just that part. slayer1o1 22:02, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
- For my part, I'd leave it with even the Korean brand of "Engrish" (if present) or any typos in place just like how Groklaw transcribes legal documents, complete including typos and grammatical flubs, since the actual court transcriptions are considered "gospel". That way it is absolutely faithful to the game's text.
- In any event, thanks for all the input. --Irjustman 22:06, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
It's not complicated.
I'm simply keeping the wiki pages consistent with the other dozens of mabi-wiki pages, and MILLIONS of pages on wikipedia.
Thanks for your concern.

Re: Holy freakin' cow...
Who needs sleep XD --ZRoc 07:15, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, though I catnapped a bit over the ... oh... nine hours or so we waited in front of a local Sprint store so a friend of mine can get one of the first Palm Pre phones when it was introduced yesterday. That thing looks to be the iPhone Killer(R)! If only I had the money myself... >.<;;;; --Irjustman 08:18, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- Palm actually brought out something good? Great! I remember when they nearly owned the handheld market. By the way, thank you for running the wiki on your server. I seem to be enjoying contributing almost as much as playing the game (says a lot about my social life T.T) --ZRoc 01:34, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
IP block
Did you unblock the associated IP with my username?
Also I am sorry for editing those pages. Since it was one of the widely accessed first links (Special:Statistics) on the main page, I was looking for red links. I just thought it might be more convenient for the people to understand since the Administrator page was done, and could easily be looked up on meta wiki. Sorry for causing inconvenience. --Hengsheng120 01:12, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Understandable, but please, leave anything in the Mabinogi World Wiki: namespace alone. That's for us to decide what goes there. I put the block there because it was the quickest way to stop it while I was on the bus without my laptop with only my Palm Treo phone with me. I have essentially put a protect on existing pages in the MWW: namespace and will be investigating options for blocking creation and editing of pages there by anyone except administrators. As I said, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." --Irjustman 01:15, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
I want to add you to my Mabi Friends list
come one, PLZ tell me, u could just put it on my discussion page PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ--Dtdsora AKA Viri The White Knight-in-training 02:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Three things keep me from doing this:
- I don't play the game enough.
- You're ingratiating yourself to me.
- This belongs on the forums!
- Please either contribute to the wiki if you're going to be here or go talk on the forums.
- Otherwise, please confine your questions here to those concerning operation of this wiki. --Irjustman 05:28, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, you can delete this message is you want, seeing as it IS your page, and i don't want to annoy you
Wiki Space
Dramartistic asked me if it's worth making a redirect for each monster, because it might make the server run out of room. I was wondering if you could tell me if there's enough space left on the server with so many redirects present? --Aramet 18:23, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- There's tons of space, so go for it! I suspect it's little more than a line for each redirect. --Irjustman 19:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Null route template
An IP address for this account has been null-routed due to gross violation of the Mabinogi World Wiki Policy. If you are the account's owner and wish to rectify this situation, please read the policy and post an appeal here. NOTE: Removal of nullroutes is at the server owner's sole discretion! |
- Sorry, I just had to, haha. --Powder Rune 19:15, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Nah, that's just fine; I was trying to keep it the same size on all the templates. I feel a little better with you making the template a bit bigger. Thanks!
- --Irjustman 19:17, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, it looks nicer, too! --Irjustman 19:17, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Angevon made it into a template for you, so now all you have to do is type {{Template:NullUser}} on a person's page for it to show up :3 --Powder Rune 05:37, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- I had a feeling you could do this. Thanks for the news. And Angevon, if you're reading this, you rock! --Irjustman 09:49, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Server Error
I seem to get temporary 500 and 503 server errors whenever I make a minor (picture name) change in Template:StyleMonster. I do not know if this happens with others changes. But it seems the server gets overloaded because it's a large template?--Hengsheng120 20:19, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- How large are we talking about here? When Rune popped me a heads-up about the server lagging, the load was up pretty high with a total of 200+ PHP processes, three-quarters of them belonging just to this wiki. Even so, I somehow doubt one measly template's going to drive the load up like that. --Irjustman 20:25, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- The template affects the templates of all the monsters though. I will do a test edit again.--Hengsheng120 20:27, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hmmmm, I think you may be on to something. The load spiked HARD since, as you'd mentioned, it apparently has to fan out the changes to all the monster pages. As such, it can barely deal with browsing loads. I don't know how much that affects the fan-out (assuming this is the actual cause), but unless we can address this somehow, we may have to enact some policies about "domino effect template editing" seeing as this has a direct effect on site availability. --Irjustman 20:59, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- I know this is old news but I'm confirming this. Load problems started as I edited Clothes Upgrades (which is transcluded on most clothes pages) and the two templates used on List of Enchants. The load problems stopped after about a minute, though. ---Angevon 04:02, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
- Now that I'm gainfully employed again, once money flows at a steady pace, I can actually think about putting together a new machine to replace the one that's currently at the datacenter. I'm hoping to get rid of this problem once and for all, but it may take some time. But at least as of now, I can say that at some point, it looks very doable. --Irjustman 04:07, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Templates
I've created three different templates from Kevin's (and your) designs:
- {{LockedUser}} for users whose userpage has been deleted and locked.
- {{BannedUser}} for users who have been banned.
- {{NullUser}} for users who have been null-routed.
To have a template show up on a page, just put the coding: "{{template name}}" anywhere on the page. To edit any of the templates, type "Template:template name" into the search bar to go to its page. Example: "Template:NullUser" to get to the NullUser template page. You can make new template pages that way, too. ---Angevon 17:42, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for that. Here I was, thinking I'd have to cut-and-paste the source from my "workshop" area. This will save a substantial amount of effort.

Re:Goobergoo93
Actually, his very first contribution to Fleta's page was to remove something dirty that another user added in. However, he did break two or three of the policy rules. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the content he added was offensive, somewhat non-Mabinogi related, and (purposely) false information. I think the null-route ban is fair. --Aramet 16:58, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
