Are they tradable or storable in pets? Or do they take no inv space similar to ducats? What exactly do they purchase?

For your first two question, I don't know. However, you can use Pons for three things:

  1. Getting new hairstyles or clothing permanently. (Same thing as premium cards except it's cheaper to just buy 1 basic card and a few Pons. Hair, face, eyes, and mouth each cost independent and you only get charged if you make a change. Non-event premium cards were also removed.)
  2. Purchasing special Fashion Slot-only clothing, these can be stored in a 10x10 bag from the same store that costs 1k gold and doesn't require service. (The bag is 1x2.) Also, fashion-only clothing expire in 30 days or 180 days depending on the version you buy.
  3. Purchasing a Fashion Slot Key. This unlocks the fashion slot for 30 days and this time you can put fashion clothing or any equipment in the fashion slot excluding weapons.

If you buy hair in the dressing room, then change it to something else, will it be free to go back to the first one?

You can preview all you like, but once you finally change it ("buy" a new one even if it's cost is 0 pons), you would have to pay again to change it back. It also works like this for beauty coupons. If you change from a beauty coupon style, you need another beauty coupon to change back.

I am a little fuzzy and I keep forgetting, but I'm 97% sure that changing gender on rebirth and then changing back will force you to re-purchase your "look" as well.

From what I've seen other people complain about, Pons can't be traded across characters, and appear in your Item Shop inventory when you first buy them. Needs confirmation though, and I'm not sure about whether they take up inv space,
