Description

A Vate is a person excelling in Alchemy.

The Four Vates refer to an exceptionally skilled team of Four Alchemists. To this day, Dorren is the only original member still alive.

Generation 12: Return of the Hero

Sometime after Lugh Lavada abdicated his role as the Knight of Light, the Four Vates were summonned by the Royal Aliech Regime to the Rath Royal Castle. They were ordered to save a dying boy, no matter the means. They succeeded, turning him into the first and only successful Homonculus-- an artificial life-- in the history of Alchemy.

Trivia

• The word Vates (from the Latin word vātēs) means prophet, poet, or bard. They usually find inspiration from divine sources.
  • Vates is also cognate with words suggesting madness.
• According to disputed accounts such as Strabo's Geographica, the Vates were an honored class alongside the Druids and the Bards.
  • Early promotional images for Chapter 3 show that this relationship was introduced deliberately into Mabinogi by the developers[1].
  • Berched's comments on the Private Story and Nearby Rumors Keywords suggest that there was a time in Mabinogi's history where the Royal Alchemy Society (Vates) and the Royal Music Society (Bards) would've worked with the Druids.
• It is unclear whether Professor J is a real part of the Vates, or if he simply shares the Talent with them.
