New Protection

New Protection

Just some data that might help people figure out the new formula.

1 protect - Tooltip says it reduces physical dmg by 2%
3 protect - reduces physical dmg by 5%
4 protect - reduces physical dmg by 7%
5 protect - reduces physical dmg by 9%
6 protect - reduces physical dmg by 10%
7 protect - reduces physical dmg by 12%
18 protect - reduces physical dmg by 25% (that seems like quite a lot)

Interesting.

Out of curiosity, how much does 100 Protection from Wind Guard reduce?

Infodude575 (talk)18:24, 27 September 2013

Sadly, just like before this update, it does not add the def/protect on your character window. Kinda like when you use the defense skill and it doesn't add any temporary defense that you can view.

I really would like to know as well.

DANTE20XX (talk)18:41, 27 September 2013

But the tooltip says a "reduces physical damage by #%"?

Infodude575 (talk)18:44, 27 September 2013

I hope to god you're not talking about the character info tooltip, especially right after Dante said it does not show the defense/protection bonus in your character info window when using Wind Guard.

Oh, I missed that, derp.

Infodude575 (talk)18:51, 27 September 2013

I heard around 50 was like 40% or so...

Keep those numbers coming or simply add it to my Sandbox...I'll find what I can with my limited gear.

  • 27 Magic Prot > 33%
  • 30 Magic Prot > 35%
  • 31 Magic Prot > 35%
  • 34 Magic Prot > 37%

  • 12 Prot > 18%
  • 15 Prot > 22%
  • 21 Prot > 28% (not 27%, like your chart says)
  • 26 Prot > 32%

I made an error note saying that it appears differently for other players with the same value due to rounding if you had read the errors above the chart.

Someone posted the curve on a different forum. It's a log curve IIRC.

I haven't looked into this yet, but if different people are getting different numbers, there must be something here we're not taking into account.

Doomsday31415 (talk)07:28, 28 September 2013

It's most likely because it gets rounded, not to mention we can't see decimals through normal means :/

Protect:
25 -> 31%
27 -> 32%
28 -> 33%
30 -> 34%
43 -> 42% (hmmm)
47 -> 44% (getting much less effective now)
49 -> 45%
52 -> 47%
53 -> 47%
54 -> 48%
55 -> 48%
57 -> 49%
58 -> 49%
63 -> 52%
64 -> 52%
65 -> 52%
66 -> 53%
71 -> 55%
72 -> 55%

Magic protect:
16 -> 24%
21 -> 28%
22 -> 29%
26 -> 32%
27 -> also 32%
32 -> 36%
37 -> 39%

DANTE20XX (talk)10:18, 28 September 2013

Adding on from mine:
59->50%
61->51%
64->52%
66->53%

67 is the highest I can get (Shield of Physis) but there's no change (Still 53%).

Scratch that, I forgot about Enduring Melody:
68->54%
71->55%
74->56%

and 75 was the highest I got with my Inspiring Enduring Melody. I know I can raise it even more with a better Enduring Melody and Pet Bonus and Protection Potion but ain't nobody got time fo dat

I would love to see Elizabeth's 350 Protection... Sadly the tooltip doesn't show up.

I think there might be a cap to protection, at least for marionettes? Stuff like Ghasts knock them around for 100 damage with Smash.

Infodude575 (talk)11:53, 28 September 2013

350? e-e do you even need...I don't even know anymore LOL...

まそっぷ ! (talk)11:55, 28 September 2013

this is all well and good, but i still cannot for the life of me see anywhere mentioning this stat that supposedly allows you to gain base prot

Legiathan (talk)10:53, 22 October 2013

Nothing gives you base protect, who said anything about that?

DANTE20XX (talk)15:46, 22 October 2013

the sad thing is idr any sources... >.<

Legiathan (talk)11:10, 23 October 2013

Don't worry about because it doesn't exist.
