Creating a list for Accepted/Denied Partner Clothing

Fragment of a discussion from Talk:Wiki Home

Like I stated in the deletion reason: Partners#Gifts already states what cannot be gifted.

Yet there's still wisespread confusion because it's so generalized and rather lacking in most aspects that would make a separate page MUCH more convenient for.

It's generalized because what type of equipment it is decides whether or not it can be gifted. To be specific and stated each and every equipment that can or cannot be gifted would be just redundant.

You're essentially saying along the same lines as if I claimed the following: "The Special Clothing List is redundant because it can be summed up to just saying that anything with binding features or these certain characteristics." But there's a list of them. Granted price and obtain method should be listed somewhere.

Now just editing the entry that exists to redirect to a page that has a full list AND the generalizations at the beginning would be more efficient.

The entire point of a list is to list things...

Exactly, furthering my argument.

What you want to do is essentially saying "You cannot gift Magical Clothing, any clothing with age-limitations, or clothing that can be repaired through Magical Equipment Repairs."

What I essentially want to do is give users an aesthetic interface where finding limitations comes down to less research. That less research being a single search instead of multiple redirections. Presenting the entirety in one area would be an extremely convenient approach where people could just Ctrl+F the idea they had to find if or if it's not acceptable. And besides, some entries that do fit gifting criteria still cannot be gifted which would then mean they're left out. Leaving it as-is is a cop-out when a good portion of people are annoyed with research or genuinely lost on the options.

Not including weapons, you're planning to create a list of over 1400 equipment items of whether or not an item can or cannot be gifted to a partner.

That over a list of 5 categories and any special exceptions.

If you're willing to go through 1,400+ equipment pages + However many Weapon pages + Any future equipment/weapons, then be my guest and make that list. Otherwise, any special exceptions should be added to the list, or discussion page until the categorization of the newly found exception is discovered and added instead.

That's what I was planning on and have already started.

If all Special Clothing had the exact same stats and looks and only varied in price and obtainment methods, then yes, a list would then be redundant.

And then you start drifting from the issue at hand.

I believe Kevin's trying to say that the Special Clothing List is not generalized, and thus a list is needed, while the clothes giftable to a partner is generalized, and thus a list is redundant. So you can't compare this at all with the Special Clothing List.

I agree with Kevin. While it's true that it's easy to Ctrl-F the name of a clothing from your proposed list, it's even easier if people actually knew the category of their clothing beforehand, and cross-referenced that with about six conditions in which partners cannot wear the clothing.

It's one thing if there's genuine confusion over random limitations to being Partner-equippable or not, but when things are this simple, I'm a lot more inclined to believe it's just a case of people not looking.

As far as I'm aware, Partners#Gifts lists all the conditions:

  • The item must not be Light or Heavy Armor (this really shouldn't need a list);
  • The item must not be Magical Clothing (list available in Category:Magical Clothing;
  • The item must not be personalized, except to the partner;
  • The item must not be a two-handed weapon; and
  • The item must be wearable by a human

If there are special exceptions to these limitations, they can be added to the same place, perhaps in list format. There's really no need to create a new page on this.
