No. Balance and damage do not help the tool gather. The reason for some these upgrades to exist is to have cheap level 0~2 upgrades available so that you can get a level 3~4 (or something) upgrade which allows you to gather faster or get 2 items in one (not implemented yet). --- Angevon 19:58, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

That "Gather 2 items in one" deal sounds rather useful. Any idea when it'll be implemented?

Fishing Rod

Does anyone agree that we should remove it from the list? It doesn't have any gathering item type upgrades (no speed up or extra items), catching fish with it doesn't increase proficiency, Production Mastery doesn't count it as gathering, and you need to activate a skill in order to fish (unlike herbalism, which is passive). Furthermore, it has absolutely no notable upgrades, so I don't think anyone would miss it even if we didn't relocate it to another page.--GN54 20:43, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

I think that any tool that has an upgrade should be included. while there may not be an upgrade to help with the fishing it still is able to be upgraded. so it should stay. i'm actually wondering if there are any other tools that may have upgrades available. --chrissy of hailfire 17:27, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

The Gathering Knife and Weeding Hoe upgrades previously translated as "Annealing 1" and "Annealing 2" are now translated as "Tempering 1" and "Tempering 2". I've fixed them on this page and on the individual tools' pages.

It's quite likely that the corresponding upgrades for the Gathering Axe, Pickaxe, Sickle and Blacksmith Hammer have also changed, but I don't have any of these tools at right level to be able to verify this, so I haven't changed them yet. Is anyone else able to check these?
