Talk:Wind Guard

From Mabinogi World Wiki

Doesn't it also require a shield? I think it'd be important to included that in the skill info. --Babohtea 21:11, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

What's with the lower rank training methods? (Bows)

Wind Guard

I've seen it both called Wind Guard and Windbreaker in the game files:

<WindBreaker>

<SkillLevelDetail SkillLevel="0" PrepareTime="3000" AbilityNecessary="0" StaminaNecessary="4" StaminaModPreparing="-1.333" StaminaModWaiting="-0.8" StaminaModProcessing="0" ManaNecessary="0" ManaModPreparing="0" ManaModWaiting="0" ManaModProcessing="0" CombatPower="0" StackPerCast="1" EffectDescription="_LT[xml.skill_leveldetail.10133]" Conditions="_LT[xml.skill_leveldetail.10149]" Var1="5" Var2="20" Var3="0" Var4="30" Var5="180" Var6="0.3" />

</WindBreaker>

10358 add(1.5, 180, "Use the Wind Guard to defend a melee attack");
10359 add(1, 200, "Use the Wind Guard to defend a melee attack");
10360 add(0.5, 300, "Use the Wind Guard to defend a melee attack");

I'm not quite which one is going to end up as the name for the skill. --Jαy 02:02, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Maybe it'll be called Windbreaker, however the requirements say Wind Guard?? Just to point out, Final Hit is called as it is, but when you're running out of time, it says "Infinite Hit Skill has 10 seconds left" although it's not called that. Perhaps it's something similar? --Phunkie 13:52, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

My guess is that it will be called Wind Guard since as we know in American gags that Wind breaking means flatulence. Nexon apparently sees the Windbreaker name being corny due to this meaning so they change it to Wind Guard. Like the issue with Charge/Assault Nexon changes the actual overseas English name but since it is really direct translation of the written foreign version of the skill, however this time, overseas Windbreaker is actually pronounced and written as Windbreaker. We'll see what happens.--BIassreiter 20:53, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

It looks like Wind Guard is the official translated name: relevant Nexon Notice. --Duet 21:36, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Tactics and skills used with windbreaker

Anyone curious to see how this skill can be combined (After G10S2)? I'm thinking that it might be possible to giants to use alchemy or ranged attack while using windbreaker to boost the defense and protection... Life drain while using windbreaker anyone? "All ur life r belong to meee!" <- since you can't be stunned you can keep draining life. --Dra6o0n 19:37, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Also, I'd like to ask if using knuckle weapons and finishing the combo will make you "crawl" in that direction a bit...? --Dra6o0n 19:38, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
No. You have to have a shield while using Wind Guard (No Knuckles)--Babohtea 02:04, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
That also puts a damp in the whole using alchemy and range while in Wind Guard. I'm pretty sure you can't use shields with cylinders. No try though. --Phunkie 02:54, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
You can use cylinders and shields together, however it doesn't do much good during windguard since you are limited to melee skills and the cylinder is as good as your bare hands stat wise. Tellos 23:26, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
This changes after G10S2, which is why Dragoon asked the question in the first place. My answer is "No idea".--Babohtea 06:00, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

I think the changes of the G10S2 updates is that Wind guarding Giants can now use other melee skills as Wind guard is still in effect (that and Windguard itself also gets a slight "buff". --Bryanneo 14:43, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

The big question here is -which- skills become usable. --Hecate 04:56, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Maybe all but Charge, since a moving Windguarder might be overpowered but I dont personally know. --Bryanneo 12:34, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Wind Guard vs. 2 Handed Final Hit?

Who would win? --Leyuu 15:01, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Pretty much depends on the damage done. --κєνıи тαıĸ«) 18:12, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Question belongs on the forum. If you're serious about it. --- Angevon (Talk) 19:57, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Necros* Windguard wins due to increased def and prot, and the fact they can load an uninterrupted WM and immediately cancel their Final Hit. --Pyroblade 15:05, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah there really is no contest, Windguard would definitely win even if they didn't load a WM to knock down the FH user. --DANTE20XX 23:07, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

"Rebalanced"

The update announcement for G12 mentions this skill has "been rebalanced". I am curious, what does this rebalance entail, if anyone knows? The only thing I could figure that would help the skill is allowing you to use any skill that can be performed stationary. But that would be a "buff", and the skill is already pretty great, so I honestly fear "rebalanced" may simply mean "nerfed". Any information would be appreciated. --Rusty 00:59, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

As far as I've seen on Korea, Wind Guard is the same as it is here, so if there is any change its going to be a very minor one. Just like how the only "Rebalance" dark knights are actualy getting is the ability to use Life Drain while not in disarm status. Tellos 01:54, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Enlightenment - Using with Shield

According to Nexon Mabidata, there's some sort of buff when you use it with a shield.

I, too, found this ludicrous, Dante, but Mabidata doesn't lie.

Infodude575 (talk)17:27, 27 September 2013

Well, I'm no giant, but the wiki is already saying "Must be equipped with a shield in order to use." Has this changed, or is it just some sorta overall buff?

Meru (talk)17:49, 27 September 2013

If anything I think the Devs meant to say that "Wind Guard has been buffed", because saying "Using Wind Guard with a shield equipped greatly increases effect" is impossible because you need to have a shield in the first place to use Wind Guard. But even so, loaded Defense+Vales Shield is more effective than using Wind Guard at times IMO, so it isn't really buffed that much from its previous state.

鍾国豪-BIassreiter (talk)18:10, 27 September 2013

That does seem logical, since any more than 100 Def/Prot and 60 M Def/Prot is rather farfetched. Hidden extra bonus is possible, too.

Description

"but isn't as quite effective against magic attacks."

Is ^ still there in the description? I'm not a giant so I can't tell.

Infodude575 (talk)18:49, 18 September 2013

Yes it's still in there despite the skill now giving magic def/protect.

DANTE20XX (talk)21:16, 18 September 2013

At rank 1...

Def + 100
Protection + 100 (That's crazy!)
Magic Def + 60
Magic Protection + 60

Duration is the same. Sadly, as before, the stats do not show up on your character window when you use it, so this is only based off what the game tells me on the skill info. I just wish I knew exactly how much 100 protection was...

DANTE20XX (talk)13:51, 18 September 2013

Do you really more than +10 defense on activation?

This chart has said you do since the skill came out pretty much, but none of the skill ranks in game say anything about it. They all say you get 10 at every single rank (and i'd know since I've got it to r1 now). So...which is correct? Did somebody look into the game files to see it gives more than 10 defense or what? And if so, shouldn't somebody add a note that the skill description is not correct in-game?

DANTE20XX (talk)21:16, 21 October 2012

Can't believe that slipped pass everyone. Apparently, all defense values of the skill were wrong. Even the description has it correct.

So....don't know how it's been like this, but apparently ALL ranks get +10 defense instead of it starting out at 5. I thought we went over this already?

DANTE20XX (talk)06:23, 15 January 2013

2 protection values

There are 2 protection values in the game. Maybe the 2nd is for 'with shield'?

Well I've been told before that you don't REALLY get 50% protect at r1...or rather it won't actually lower damage by 50% as it is supposed to, but either way, you can't use it w/o a shield at all.
