Animated GIF

I've made an animated GIF for Spinning Uppercut If this looks good I'll make more. I can change the size at any time I thought 500px would be sufficient. Tell me what to change and its done :u

I made another for Drop Kick with regard for file size in mind. Size has been reduced by 26%. File:Dropkick Animated Small.gif

Why not for every other offensive skill?

I was thinking fighter skills first since tumble had like 3 derp images lol

Can someone delete the previous versions of the files? I dunno if it saves space or something.

I need to know if what I'm doing here is acceptable and how to make it better for what the wiki wants. The 3 gifs I have made so far in chronological order are on Spinning Uppercut Drop Kick and Somersault Kick. As you can see I've been improving drastically.

Also if necessary I could make a guide on making animated gifs in the future since I've seen people ask about it for flashy items, dyes, etc. I'll at least ask people to videocap an item for me and I'll do the rest.

They're a little bit fast aren't they? Actually I think it's mostly spinning uppercut and drop kick. Those end a bit too early I think too. May as well show the get-up animation.

I think it might be better if it didn't look like you were fighting yourself. Just saying =x

The get-up animation may have been omitted due to concerns over file size, perhaps? Since GIFs use lossless compression the file sizes can get quite large pretty easily, even if optimised. So if you have a lot of frames to show, or large frames, or want more than 256 colours, or sound, an embedded youtube link may work better (since as far as I know, the video data is hosted by youtube and not the wiki). Most of the time I'd prefer a video link on skill pages, since I'd only look up how the skill looks once (and in that case I'd want to hear its sound effects, too). The rest of the time I'm there for the text-based info and can just ignore that the video exists...

Regarding speed, GIFs can be laggy or play at different speeds depending on one's browser.

I also agree with Angevon about the 'fighting yourself' thing, since it's easier to see what bit of each character is where if they're wearing something significantly different in colour.

I do like GIFs as icons for flashy dyes and items, though. So a guide on how to make them could be nice for wiki users to have access to. ^^

I think you're right about everything you said. It might be size issues for the reason they look a bit..."fast" as well as cutting some of them short. And yes, not hearing the sound as well is a bit sad. If I didn't already know what they looked/sounded like I can bet I'd still look up a video for them.

I don't really think appearance matters, its knowing whose the target and whose the attacker is what should be maintained, and as long as you can tell that, seems fine to me. Besides, their hair are different.

I don't understand the point of these GIFs. Why not just upload an example video to YouTube and embed it on the skill page like has always been done?

Ginkgo13:09, 22 June 2012

The attacking of oneself is more personal preference XD. As for the idea of making gifs for every offensive skill, that's a bad idea. If someone running mabi on a decent computer were to open multiple skill pages (and as such, multiple gif animations), it would lag that person. Keep in mind that it's practicality over detail when it comes to things like this. Well, that and most skills can be summed up with a single screenshot.

Yinato13:12, 22 June 2012

I don't see how most skills can be summed up with a still.

Youtube videos have a higher resolution, retain all sound effects, and multiple animations can be contained into one video, so skills with different animations for different weapons like Smash and Counterattack don't need as many gif animations as weapon types. They also give users the option to not see them, and can preserve framerate.
