Wiki's Official Distance Unit?

Wiki's Official Distance Unit?

I mean, we can't keep this ambiguous.

See this thread, think about it, and reply, please.

TLDR: the game's data uses meters as the unit of distance, but all the puppeteer skill descriptions divide what "would have been" meters by 100 and labels it, again, meters.

Should we use m or cm as our "smallest unit of measurement"?

If you're choosing just because you can, don't. Provide some sort of reasoning to why you chose what you chose.

We've been using meters for a long time, why don't we keep it that way?

That's not the issue. It'll still be called meters, regardless.

If m is used as our "smallest unit", a range of 2000 will still be 2000m.
If we choose cm as our "smallest unit", a range of 2000 will then be considered 20m (2000/100"cm").

before puppetry's meters...we've been calling it "Distance." Since many skills seem to opt out for meters...might as well change it. I mean, I don't recall a skill before puppets stating distance as "meters."

Maybe i shouldn't have brought this up. This is a lose-lose situation. If 1 "distance" = 1m, then we're all walking skyscrapers in this game. If 100 "distance" = 1m, we're in a ridiculous parody of the metric system in which the base unit is named after a factor of the next unit... And since Nexon is being more inconsistent than usual with this, we'll be contradicting their version half the time with either way.

Maybe we should just stay away from their ambiguous metric based terms(except when quoting ingame descriptions) until they figure out what they're doing, and just define distances in terms of d("distance"), hd(hecto"distance"), kd(kilo"distance") etc.

until they figure out what they're doing

That's not going to be for another forever.

I'd rather just go with one of the two meter/centimeter choices that have half of the version contradicting than to make up an entirely new unit, which wouldn't really make much difference, since you'd still be using the same amounts, which is what the issue is.

I would just keep using the term "distance" above all else, and only using "meters" when it can be applied.

まそっぷ ! (talk)17:17, 13 August 2013

What do you mean by "when it can be applied"?

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)18:52, 13 August 2013

o-o only use the term if the skill(s) use said term o-o. oh hell, just use meters.

But if distance is currently in meters for most things, that would mean bows have a range of 2000 meters? That's insane, I hope the numbers for bows are in centimeters.
people are used to having them that way though, and they don't really call it meters or centimeters in-game, they just call it "range", and the upgrades for them come as just numbers, as well.
I'd choose for Centimeters, since it seems to form the least problems for what the Wiki currently has, the main exception being Puppets.

LittlesnowEU (talk)04:14, 14 August 2013

How would that cause problems for Puppets?

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)05:03, 14 August 2013

Because they're what made us use meters, all the other things appear to be centimeters.

LittlesnowEU (talk)05:27, 14 August 2013

They're the only thing that definitively uses meters as 100 distance, so they're the main reason to have cm as a unit of distance.

Gems use centimeters, but you guys are probably aware of that.

Lets just use what DevCAT says then?

Infodude575 (talk)22:22, 16 August 2013

Are you paying attention? What we get from DevCat comes through Nexon, and what Nexon says about this contradicts itself. If using what DevCat says was an option, we would have done that a long time ago.

B-but I'm tired and I got a headache D:

Infodude575 (talk)23:53, 16 August 2013

Apology accepted. Also, thanks for bringing up Gems, I knew I forgot to list something up there. Does a gem's size on the ground change with it's size stat?

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)00:32, 17 August 2013

Hm, correct me if I'm wrong but I noticed only skills have the meter thing but items and other stuff (partner's height) are measured in centimeters? *scratches head*

Infodude575 (talk)00:46, 17 August 2013

Imagine yourself holding a 1 meter gem.

I guess you have a point there...
