I agree, however it would be nice if we also made a "dungeon room" version of it. Since the wide open area of Dunbarton may make distance seem shorter and not that great in dungeons. --Miyuna 14:40, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Range Image

What's your definition of out of sight? Because that changes a lot with zoom level, performance settings, and/or normal/far view settings. If you think you can make a better scale then replace it. The scale was made according to perspective view of each texture block. It's not isometric. If you want i can make a scale with 5000 zoom out so it looks a bit more isometric. In old towns, Character rendering stops at around 3500 range (thus a magnum knockback will probability kick things out of sight). The farthest terrain view range is approximately 6500~7000, I over estimated a little, but 8000 terrain view range is possible with a 100 distance zoom in (below normally allowed though). Closer ranges appear longer than farther ranges, just like how object appear bigger when they are closer.--Hengsheng120·TALKCONTRIBS 05:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

I think every unit of "distance" is actually one cm

There are meter rules in Mabinogi, they are just used to be transparent to normal players. However, if you throw a paper airplane, you'll get a distance readout, in meters. What's better, I've done a few tests, and one meter is a good approximation of 100 Distance. Katarou3 might've been right all along. It wouldn't be that hard to convert all Distance measurements into meters. Just add a decimal. Could also just call them centimeters. I've screenshots of me standing with a paper airplane thrown at exactly 1.00 meters if anyone wants the reference. The distance for paper airplanes seems to be measured from the tail of the airplane. Weapon + Skill Range?

Does the range of the weapon have any effect on a skill's range itself? If I'm not mistaken wands increase the range of bolt spells, but would the range of Ranged Weapons affect Ranged Skills and the range of Dual Guns Weapons affect Dual Gun Skills?

Unless you have reforges, no. Guns Skill ranges are fixed. Only normal attacks have increased range from upgrades.

btw, Bullet spread reforges can get windmill 360° AoE if high enough I think xD...

Cap bonus for gun reforge seems to be lv 10 or at least i have yet to see any above 10.

I drew a crappy diagram of bullet storm somewhere... I don't remember where.

No, wait, that was Shooting Rush (found it!). I believe they work similarly, though, and in turn, you're only increasing the width (aka radius).

 

Oh wait, I was thinking of bullet storm reforges. but uhh I never did figure out shooting rush :x That diagram helps xD.

(Might fit under reforges more than this...)

since things only show up at around...3000~4000 range, wouldn't effective Range Lv20 on reforges make that distance kinda useless? considering Shadow tara's rendering distance was cut...I'm not quite sure :x

an example of a weapon over 3000 Range is a wingbow ego. Lv20 Effective range would make the wingbow hit from a 4000' radius...which I think is far beyond the rendering distance e-e

In typical places with short render distance, yes. But, not only does effective range increase distance, it increases aim speed (because the target distance:max range ratio is lower).

Math Alert - Ratios to calculate distance

After some further testing, I figure this warrants a subject header of its own, as it's going to be a bit lengthy by internet standards. I was able to calculate the ratio of what I'll term MabiMeters. Basically, I took a screenshot of the distance of a known airplane throw. I then used Photoshop's measuring tool to calculate the same distance in pixels. This number can then be converted to a ratio via the equation: 1 / (PixelLength / AirplaneDistance). We'll call this number "the ratio".

Now, for any given distance measured by the ruler with an angle at 90 degrees from the original angle of the airplane, you can calculate the distance of an unknown object in the same screenshot. To do this, simply multiply the distance, in pixels, by "the ratio". This will give you the distance in MabiMeters. Just carry lots of paper. Took me just short of 3000 sheets to do all of this. However, this is how I know that the fences near the healer's house in Tir Chonaill are precisely 3.7911627606976744... meters long. The town square in Tir Chonaill is 13.058... meters, or 1305 Distance (centimeters). By compensating properly for the angle, you can also measure that Trefor is half an inch over being 6 foot tall, possibly because he's wearing boots. An average 11-year old Elven female is about 4'8'' to 4'10'' when barefooted, depending on the hair. Predictably, pet altitude uses the same measurement as paper airplanes, so you can use pets as a way of measuring distance in height.

So, there you have it, a way of determining height and distance. I'm not sure whether I should edit the wiki page or not, though. It's here for anyone who wants to find it. I'm off to buy more paper!
