Talk:Fishing
Guide
I think we should expand this page by listing where you should fish to get certain types of catch for exp / good places to fish for certain ranks, for example, for some you might not necessarily need to catch many quest scrolls for a rank, so you can concentrate on areas with good catches, but others you need a decent amount of each, etc... For some starter data, I've fished 1k+ fish out of Abb Neagh lake, and gotten approximately 300 items and 10 quest scrolls. This is good help for those who are just fishing for the ranks and don't really care for the items or catches.--ςαηιτγ¸ ¬_¬ 23:06, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

- I believe Sanity is asking about the likelihood of catching a certain type of item in a certain area. For instance, Reus River is a good place to fish for quest scrolls if I remember correctly -- you're more likely to catch a scroll there.--MegaMan Trigger 02:33, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Lag
Its official; even the tiniest bit of lag will make the fishing minigame nearly impossible. That is, I can beat the minigame no problem on my desktop, but on my wireless laptop I can't even catch the small fish. Not sure if its lag or if my laptop doesn't run Mabinogi as good, but if you can't beat this minigame, it isn't your fault. Might want to add this but its not very important just wanted you all to know. --Js16 19:28, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not true, I can fish with modest success even with a touchpad on my netbook (that gets sub-20 framerate even idling) Domirade [Tarlach] 11:53, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Wow, when I click preview when I edited it, the words don't crash into the picture, but when I actually save it, it still crashes into each other.. Fish Size with Rank
how much bigger can i catch at higher ranks, like ramking up to rank A to catch a bigger fish going to yeild a bigger fish than if i keep it on rank F and if so about how much bigger? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yumri (talk • contribs) . - I have rank 2 fishing and I can tell you for a fact I don't catch bigger fish just due to my rank... What does happen is the line breaks less often so almost every time I cast I reel something up.. And the speed of the auto-fishing and casting is much faster. The size of fish is 100% random. I get small fish and big fish.
- Because at rank 2 I can fish faster I pull more total fish out of the water per hour than say rank F person, I will get more big fish then others but I also get more small fish too. i.e. if it's 1 in 100 to get a 200cm fish then it will take me 100 tries to get the big one just like you I am just able to fish up 100 fish in half to a third the time it takes you. I am collecting information on the time it takes to lure a fish, for specific ranks. I'm currently rank 6 fishing, but I only started collecting data since rank 7.
This is a pretty time consuming project, if anybody can help me do some of the lower ranks, that would be great. The method I am using to gather the information is as such: Use the fishing skill until you get a bite. As soon as the catch is finished (the message appears telling you if you failed or if you caught something) appears, immediately start timing. Do not wait for the animation to end. When you get a bite, immediately press lap on the timer, then stop. Wait for the countdown to end, or play the minigame. After the minigame is over, or after the auto-fish is deemed a success, press start again. At the next bite, press lap, and repeat. At the end, remove any outliers (google it if you don't know what that means), and average the rest of the numbers together.
My data so far:
Rank 7: ~60 seconds per lure (needs to be tested again)
Rank 6: ~40 seconds per lure
If you are using a fishing rod with Chance To Lure reforge, it reduces the time between lures by 2.5 seconds per level.
Eeh. I dunno. I don't think rank affects lure rates.
Tests: This is a table of # of bait left after a certain while.
- All tests begin with 300 bait.
- Ranks may change as I am able to progress them.
- All test begin and are checkpointed at the same time.
- Each test # is basically a checkpoint.
- All tests are done with basic fishing rod and fishing baits.
- Each rank indicates a different character.
Set 1 | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Test # | Rank C | Rank 9 | Rank 9 | Rank 9 | Rank B | Rank B |
1 | 190 | 182 | 185 | 181 | 192 | 182 |
2 | 100 | 78 | 83 | 81 | 88 | 86 |
3 | 25 | 7 | 9 | 10 | 20 | 22 |
Test # | Rank B | Rank 9 | Rank 9 | Rank 9 | Rank A | Rank A |
4 | - | 242 | 242 | 231 | 235 | 238 |
Are the checkpoints the same amount of time? Or how much time between each checkpoint? And I'm inclined to think that if the lure rate doesn't increase (smaller time interval) with each level, then it should be increasing at milestone levels like 9, 5, and 1. In your Set 1, you had consistently less baits left at rank 9 than in the lower ranks. Unfortunately, if you're AFK fishing, the amount of bait left doesn't accurately determine the lure rate, because the "XX Seconds Before Auto-Fishing" is a variable amount of time. The only way would be for you to manually fish, and manually time between each bite. But if you did manual fish for all of these tests, then I take back what I said, and this is probably more accurate, though you still have to make up for the times that a second is lost/gained because you failed or succeeded at the fishing minigame.
But if we assume that the "waiting" time will average out, then there does seem to be a trend indicating higher lure rate at the milestone rank 9.
Cough. Because of certain circumstances, there is no "XX before autofishing" it's not autofishing.
Checkpoints are all taken at the same time. No specific time between each checkpoint.
I can't say exact numbers, but I can say that there's a large difference between low ranked fishing and high ranked fishing in terms of time between attempts.
I propose moving the ice fishing information from Reus River onto this page.
Does anyone have a list or know what can be fished up in a homestead?--Price 16:21, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
The items you fish up at the homestead depend on what region your homestead is in.
when you go to make a fishing pond at the homestead, at least in uladh, the description says "a fishing hole containing fish like those in Tir Chornaill" (I'm pretty sure they meant Tir Chonaill, but thats the actual spelling used).
to make note of it, you can get the title formerly known as "the king of fishing" from a uladh homestead as this is where one of my characters obtained the title. between my two main characters who are rank 1 and rank 7 fishing, most of the fishing I've done has been at either tir chonaill or a uladh homestead and I can confidently say that the items in both area's are exactly the same..
I'd also like to mention (because it was discussed above in this page) that the tir chonaill reservoir and river locations are also exactly the same as both my characters have caught the rare items from both locations and I've seen players with rare items on the ground next to them in both locations. I would say that the identical items found in a uladh homestead back that claim up as it indicates the use of 1 drop chart for the tir chonail area which is shared by the uladh homestead (as noted in the uladh pond description).
I think the connous homesteads are identical to the fishing boat, and physis homesteads are identical to the reus river ice fishing, though I'm not 100% on those two because I only have a uladh fishing hole and I've never been fishing at the other homestead regions.
I'm basing the assumption, at least for the connous homestead, from a friend who informed me that the connous homestead appears to be just like the fishing boat, my friend has one on their elf homestead located in connous.
the same friend was telling me they were thinking of getting a fishing hole on their giants homestead but I don't recall if they did or not, and with the friends list being broken in the last month(as of this post) I haven't been to their giants homestead to check it out for myself, but some other players have told me its just like physis ice fishing.
I'd suggest just checking the description when making a fishing pond at a connous or physis homestead, it probably says something similar like the uladh homestead pond to clue in which areas drop chart they're mimicking since that's all the homestead ponds seem to do, mimic another area.
Alright, so it's exactly the same? I didn't want to make a pond and the find out that you could only get fish from it, and NOT items.
has anyone done any experiments? Would it be beneficial at all to figure out the % of 300 bait used, as a estimate for success rates for each rank? Would also have to take stats into consideration.
I'm currently rank 6 fishing. Proficiency: 68.70

Was there one? I changed for 2 ranks, giving this screenshot : http://puu.sh/1N2p (you can google "puush" if you don't trust the link to ensure safety to your computer). Can we get some updates on the proficiencies?
