Talk:Fossil Restoration

From Mabinogi World Wiki

Guide

Taming Wild Animals has a link to a guide on the nexon forums, and it's not even that great a guide. Why not link to Kitae's guide? It's very useful. ---Angevon 02:51, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

From memory we've linked to guides before so I really don't see why not. The removal of the link seems to reflect a single person's opinion and wasn't discussed at all so I've undone his edit. Such arbitrary changes without consulting with other users is really detrimental to a wiki >_> We have talk pages for a reason after all.--Mystickskye 07:32, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Pictures

Since there's different types of fossils it might be useful for someone to get pictures of each fossil shape and post them. Might be a help for people to know which might be the easiest for them. --Sanity 15:02, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I know for a fact that the pelvis bone, the hip-looking one, is probably the hardest, cuz it has those two holes in it >>, but Khenta's vid on the link to the forums shows a fair number of them.--♫ѕταя♪ταιқ♪ 23:57, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
I've seen them before in the client files. Someone can get them from there (or I can do it later if no one volunteers). --- Angevon (Talk) 13:52, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Difffering degrees of success

So the text you get after you restore a fossil - "barely stored" "somewhat restored" "mostly restored" - is there anything else? I've never managed to get a "completely restored" or anything like that personally, so I just wanted to ask. Also, I heard that lava cat robe chances are dependent on how well you clean it, but is there any proof? Or is it completely random? --Beepuke 12:17, 15, October 2009 (EST)

I would like to know this as well. I've only been able to get "mostly restored" and actually handed about 5 of them. I hunted all over the net to see if there was anything better myself. I found out that someone on the Nexon forums actually got one but, then he explained how some of them even had a little red on them. I'm just going to say that... Yes, "mostly restored" is indeed the highest. (unless proven other-wise) --To See Forum 10:28PM (EST) OCT 16, 2009

No i have definetly gotten "Perfectly restored" before. only via macro though. hell can't get anythingd one without it... it was that perfect restore that netted me a lava cat robe actually... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Purity464 (talkcontribs) . Perfect restore is possible, but extremely difficult. Even the macros out there can't get it on all the fossils. --Inemnitable 09:01, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

I intricately redesigned a macro to brush every reachable pixel from the beak and pelvis fossils. Doing so, I discovered that these fossils literally have no perfect restoration. Mostly restored is as good as it gets on these fossils. Therefore, I wonder if the collection books that demand perfect fossils actually settle on mostly restores or if Nexon actually made these collection books impossible to fulfill.--Majicko 17:06, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I would like to add that certain fossils cannot receive the "Perfectly restored" message, yet still will give you the title for being perfect. For example, I finally received the title off of a Tooth Fossil restoration, and it displayed the message "This fossil is really nice.". Note that I have gotten this message before without receiving the title, so it appears that for 'easier' fossils, you may have an even finer margin for error. Overall this is still unreasonably difficult and requires actual perfection. Also, on a Beak Fossil I managed to get a "This fossil is ready for a museum!" which sounds like it would have given the title if I didn't have it already. I believe more testing is required, as it seems that even the text has been changed at some point.  Hematin (talk)

Obtaining Fossils

Posted this on Angevon's page but probably should have posted it here instead:

Also, got fossils to drop while mining for Flint which can only be done while its raining, so those burning rocks near the Raspa Volcano cool down. Appears to be as slow as, or less than, the fossil drop rate while sulphur mining. --ZRoc (Talk) 06:59, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Leg Bone

I'm of the opinion that the leg bone fossil is a Femur, not a Tibia. Thoughts? <3 22:47, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

concur, but what do the mabi pack files say? -- Ladywinter 20:44, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Possible Fossils

Whose decision was it to put in where you can get certain fossils? The way it's written now suggests you can only get the captioned fossils from those locations whilst I've only mined at the pit past the chasm and obtained all the different types of fossils.--Mystickskye 09:37, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

mine, feel free to edit in where you've found the others. I've noticed that I seem to only get certain fossils in certain places; perhaps the reason why the pit past the chasm is so hard to get to is that it's the best place to mine. -- Ladywinter 10:06, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Without a large enough sample size it's hard to determine if certain places do actually drop certain fossils. I'd be more inclined to say that you can get an fossil anywhere... time to start taking records I suppose.--Mystickskye 20:16, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
yeah I have been. Of 6 fossils dropped from crabs, they were all tibia. Of the two from flint rocks, both were pelvis. I've gotten a variety from the large sulfer pit, though no beak/skull so far. -- Ladywinter 20:44, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
thought, I wonder if the drop ratios for different places are different, 'cause I'm getting far more variety from the small sulfur pit than the large pit, from where I've gotten no beaks, no pelvis, and no skulls. -- Ladywinter 15:32, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Honestly I don't think the different sulfur pits limits the fossils. Large sulfur pit has monsters, small pit does not. I think that's really the only difference, 'cept small pit has less rocks to mine from to compensate the no-monster advantage. I say this 'cause I mined from the smaller sulfur pit and got all the fossils. Then I mined at Large sulfur pit for one day and got all the fossils there too. ;\.... I think the only fossil variations are within the monsters themselves, and maybe those fire rocks (though I don't see why the fire rocks would hold only Pelvises, but I dunno 'bout that yet since I haven't mined at the fire rocks yet) --Ashe 07:52, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Okay, I just mined from the fire-rocks when it was raining at the volcanos. I only got one pelvis out of 8 fossils. The rest were tibia, skull, and beak. I really really want to bust the theory that certain fossils can be found in certain places, because that just sounds absurd to me. --Ashe 06:28, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

I was able to mine a tooth from the small pit across the chasm... so i'm thinking that its just the rarity that is involved rather than the places you get them.--chrissy of hailfire 17:17, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Rewards

I started the Rewards section, but everything there is from what I remember from mining two weeks ago or word of mouth. I'm sure we can get some knowledgeable people to fill in more accurate gold, EXP, and lava cat robe chance. A table would look nice here, too =) --CasualT 18:09, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

=/ I got the ambidextrous title from a "Mostly Restored" Infamy 21:39, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
I'd like to point out that the rewards section is definitely not accurate. It depends on the fossil you restore. For example, I get about 400-500exp on a 'mostly' skull fossil, yet I get ~800 exp on a 'somewhat' pelvis. Unless you'd like to define every single reward for each fossil, I suggest the rewards section is removed.--Ashe 03:57, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
I must agree with Ashe, a list based on one variable is not going to yield accurate information. I also doubt the existence of a "delicately restored" message, I got my ambidextrous title on three of my characters from "mostly restored" fossils. Also: table anyone?
Tooth Beak Skull Scapula Tibia Pelvis
Exp Gold Exp Gold Exp Gold Exp Gold Exp Gold Exp Gold
Barely Restored
Somewhat Restored
Mostly Restored
