Description

Taming Wild Animals.png
This skill enables you to tame wild animals. Use it on an animal after equipping the Taming Cane in your right hand and the Taming Bait in your left hand. Remember, though, you may not be able to progress through the dungeon if you tame a dungeon monster.

Details

  • Allows one to try to tame and control creatures, who will follow you and help to fight.
  • Requires a Taming Cane and taming bait. Each attempt uses one bait.
  • Stronger monsters, that is the ones with higher Combat Power, are harder to tame.
    • Beware that there are some monsters that will always resist taming, even if exactly the same monster can be tamed.
    • Generally, you can only tame monsters whose Combat Power is less than 5,000.
      • Some exceptions to this are the Banshee (9,000 CP) and Ghost (5,420 CP).
    • It is not necessary to damage/weaken a monster in order to tame it.
  • You cannot tame a monster already tamed or under the influence of Enthralling Performance.
  • The skill cannot be used while transformed into a Dark Knight.
    • However, if you transform while you have a tamed animal, it will not cause it to run away.
  • Success rate and duration of Taming Wild Animals is improved by a higher Rank of Control of Darkness.
    • Control of Darkness's effect is permanently applied, even if inactive.
  • Success rate can also be improved by using the mastery title Master of Animal Taming, and by certain 2nd titles (Tupai and ALO Asuna).
  • A tamed creature can be sketched, as well as given Potions or use the Healing skill to heal them.
    • Note that Ctrl will not automatically snap to a tamed creature.
  • Tamed creatures do not drop anything other than Dungeon Keys.
  • A tamed creature may provide its tamer increased stats, depending on the creature, for the duration of the tame.
  • If a monster is tamed whilst in a state where it is unable to attack (such as in the Castle/Iria Dungeon Recovery Rooms), the monster will stay in that state and will unable to attack or be attacked.
    • Occasionally, a monster that is in the "resting" status will come out of resting in another room of the same type. If this happens, the monster will be untamed and must be re-tamed. It is recommended that you unsummon "resting" monsters before continuing to another room.
  • If the monster's steed is tamed while it is being mounted on, the mounted creature cannot be attacked but it still can attack.
  • Mimics must be opened to be tamed as they cannot be opened with this skill cast.
    • Mimics will appear closed when tamed and will not follow unless you go too far away from their resting points. You also cannot open the tamed Mimic or heal it when closed. In order to close it, you must wait for it to open when too far far or in battle.
  • If the tamed monster uses Teleportation, it will be untamed and you will have to re-tame it.
  • You may only tame one creature at a time, and taming another monster will cause the previous one to vanish.
  • Tamed monsters will also disappear if you change zones (leaving a Dungeon, Continent Warp, Mana Tunnel, Homestead, etc.) or if you become Knocked Unconscious.
  • Tamed monsters are set to use their own AI. Upon injuring an enemy, the tamed monster will aggro to the target.
    • Tamed monsters do not respond to typical Pet Commands.
    • A monster will not 'finish' a monster it kills; the tamer must do it themselves.
    • Some monsters use skills when tamed that they would not normally use "wild."
  • Tamed Animals will engage in PvP Elf vs Giant and Paladin vs Dark Knight.
  • Contrary to the description, taming a mob in any Dungeon/Shadow Mission/Theatre Mission will not prevent completing the Dungeon/Mission.
  • You cannot open chests, doors, change floors, enter through a closed door, or enter a shadow mission walled area while the skill is loaded.
  • There is a minimum Taming success rate of 0.1%

Titles

Obtaining the Skill

Training Method

Tips

  • NOTE: With the rework to training, it is now possible to advance to Rank 1 by simply taming anything. There is a spot in Tara with four lost dogs that respawn if dismissed, making it an easy place to max out Taming with minimal effort.
  • It is recommended to have the target stuck behind a structure, wall, rock, or tree, as the skill allows you to tame through obstacles.
  • The Otters North of Cor can be tamed without fear of being attacked.
  • The Zebras Northeast of Cenae Meadows can be tamed without fear of being attacked.
  • You may attempt to tame Lost Dogs/Cats found in Tara. (Be sure to load up on taming bait before heading there.)
    • Dogs seem to be easier/faster to tame than cats.
  • Training Taming Wild Animals early, while your Combat Power is still low, can make the higher ranks go much faster.
  • It may help to to use a Mana Tunnel, Meditation, Enduring Melody, Fantastic Chorus, and/or Mana Potions to restore MP.
  • Due to dungeon updates, monsters in normal dungeons may not be tamable anymore, such as Gnolls in Rundal.
    • Using alternative instances or locations such as Rundal Siren can help.
