Talk:Mabinogi Storyline Recap

From Mabinogi World Wiki

Untitled Discussion

...o.o;;; Well, I'm a bit of a writer so I'll sit down with this tonight to write it more like a story and less like quests steps. Otherwise it's just a repeat of the Mainstream Quests page -- Ladywinter 22:40, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

whew, about the first half of G1 done. What do you guys think of the style? Should I continue? ( I still need to go back to nexon's website to confirm dialogue/information, as this is mostly based off my memory of what have been said.) -- Ladywinter 00:40, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
hmm, so I went ahead and checked out the nexon websites generation guides. It basically tells the story...so is this page necessary? -- Ladywinter 09:48, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Well I for one didn't realize that Nexon put plot summaries on their website, so this was useful information to hear. But after looking them over it's really a quest/hint guide. I think the best use of the document here on this wiki is to provide a description of the places, characters, events, and motivations involved in the story, without delving into details at the game level. CasualT (talk) 21:16, 25 April 2015 (PDT)

I would like to know the history of the generations because since we are just currently on g6 and haev to wait at least 6-12 months before we reach maybe g8-g10 i would like to know the story behind Mabinogi also watching those videos on youtube about g9 and g10 makes me curious of what is the deal with the Goddess Neamhain and Eleha.

Oh god, a massive amount of formatting and rewriting. Also, can anyone who's and elf or giant tell the story of the transformation quests? -- Ladywinter 21:33, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I could, since I've done both Giant and Elf quests. But I won't remember every single detail, since I didn't read or skimmed quickly what the quests/NPCs said say most of the time. --Dysprosium 17:05, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Can someone make this more appropriate/accurate? I searched 'wtf' and found it. WTF?! --Kevin (•Talk•) 17:31, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I'll do that eventually. Needs to be more "wiki-ish", if you know what I mean --Babohtea 04:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I'd appreciate it if people didn't tell me what I can or can't do to my own things that I worked on and put up here, sure it gets edited, I said I didn't mind that. Also if you are such a prude over something like "WTF" then you probably don't need to be on the internet. I wrote this in the sense that I might as well bring some comedy into it, since it really doesn't make sense at some areas. ---Neamhain.

Well, I was reading the g7 storyline because I have already skipped it three times and was trying to decide if it was worthwhile to acquire hte two fragments I'm missing, and came accross this:
"This dungeon is full of crap and doesn't deserve any sort of explanation except the fact Kelpie ALSO fights Cultists here, the skeletal ones in black rags."
I read that you said you wanted to add humor, but still. Couldn't we come up with better than this? It doesn't even match the rest of the page in any means.... --Haven923 15:51, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes, this page needs cleanup. Feel free to change anything you feel is out of place. ---Angevon (Talk)

Giants didnt fight dragons...

I know it's small but I'm pretty sure the giants didnt fight the dragons, it was the elves...I'm just putting that here to make sure that it's that (saw it in the mainstream...and thats why the elves live in the desert instead of a forest). So I'm gunna change that...change it back if you want but I need proof. --Fibbler 19:31, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Actually, the cheif of Cor states that Irinid granted the giants a power to to fight the dragons long ago. The ancient elves, though, were being hunted by the dragons, I believe. Didn't the ancient elves cause the destruction of Connous, though?

Is G2 really that hard?

Okay, well I'm always in Dunbarton when I see people with parties up saying "I NEED IDELS!" or something or other, I looked at the quest and I don't get it! Can some one please tell me why the quest is so hard? I'm just finshing up G1 so I was wondering how hard G2 is. I'm not being mean, but seriously. Help please?

Your light of Hope --Destinyx 01:26, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Ideals are listed here. You have to find a person to match what the NPC wants. --ΚλεδεΚιτ 01:53, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Well

I do believe I'll be working on this and cleaning up grammar and such. --KaedeKit 16:25, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

And should the generation titles be changed to the official NA titles? --KaedeKit 01:27, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
I say, go for it. This is a Mabinogi NA wiki after all. --Phunkie 19:54, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Style of the Page

Well, clearly we need to have some informal tribunal and vote about this here, before we decide how this page needs to be cleaned up. I'll start off. Writing Style: Fine with the narrative, though I'd much prefer an encyclopedic style to confirm with the rest of the wiki. Level of Formality: Look, humor is fine in certain places and all, but wiki databases tend to have an unwritten and unspoken standard for high quality, whether it be Wikipedia or the Wikia of "*insert obscure topic here*. The narrative style of the later storylines (I already tinkered with the earlier ones)just doesn't mesh well with the quality of the rest of the wiki, and reads more like a script from some Let's Play rather than something to seriously intend on recapping the story. Vance 06:39, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

To quote myself from above: "Yes, this page needs cleanup. Feel free to change anything you feel is out of place." --- Angevon (Talk) 14:28, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Adding internal links

Someone should add internal links to wiki articles (i'm too lazy atm to do it) -Kotarou3 10:41, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

I'll probably do it when I have time to rewrite and format the page. --Jay 21:40, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Narrative -> Plot Summary

I feel it would be more effective and formal to simply go through and explain the actual storyline piece by piece, rather than having some psuedointellectual, shitty writer come along and attempt to turn the storyline into their own little narrative. It needs to be a proper, official record of the story so far, with the intricacies explained, rather than a first person narrative. IHarryl 10:19, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

G8

For the Generation 8 recap, it seems... in a word... Opinionated. Quote: "The Unicorn dies, a sparkle flies through the air, Taunes gets powered up, and he slays Krumena in 1 hit.

WOW." I personally think this seems extremely informal, and someone should do a cleanup.--Th3Evil5Ponge 16:19, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

To quote myself from above yet again: "Yes, this page needs cleanup. Feel free to change anything you feel is out of place." No one is going to clean it up because it's a hell of a lot of work, and so all people do is complain instead of cleaning it up. It's getting annoying. --- Angevon (Talk) 17:49, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
I would actually do it, but I don't think I should if I haven't actually done G8.Th3Evil5Ponge 02:40, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

G11

Anyone wanna add? --κєνıи тαıĸ«) 07:20, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

I would... If I wasn't so bad at writing narratives... ~kotarou3 TALKCONTRIBS 13:01, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
I could add to it, but I haven't done G11 yet... Tellos 23:56, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

G8

Hey. I've been curious about this, shouldn't we discuss if Crumena is an easy boss? It can give our wiki readers a better view. Crumena took me 1 hour and -100.00 exp, used 67 feathers. This is minor, but I thought it could help other people. --Newlight 02:02, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Newlight

No, that would go on its page. --kaede-kit 23:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

It there anyone willing to help catch the story line up

It has been two years since anyone has even posted in this discussion. i believe that the story line recap could be really valuable to the community if we were to keep it up to date. I say that we try and start up on it again bit by bit.

How do we edit a table of contents

Arya (talk)23:13, 31 July 2015

The TOC is generated automatically. If you edit the header of the section, the TOC will be updated to reflect the change.

About how the "summaries" are written

I don't get the point of why the plot recaps are written in the style of writing fiction. The whole point is just to have a review of the events that happen during the main story.

Mentosftw16:42, 9 January 2012

I won't really say it's a summary. It's not a shortening of everything that happens, and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to explore significant plot points in more detail. (Though, the same points are sometimes unclear, and are skirted around...(that might just be me though.))

Besides which, its original point is to write the whole thing in fiction mode. Unusual for a wiki, I suppose, but one major point in the wiki is presentability for its readers. Otherwise I think this could get turned into blocks of text similar to those enchant scroll templates, which only editors really go into...and at the same time, it would make it so similar to the generation walkthroughs, which sort of nullifies this page's existence.

Personally, I'm hoping to get away from an adult book style that keeps its readers reading only through their own desire to read, and more into a children's book that hooks people in and keeps them there. Again with the point of presentability, I don't really want to scare curious spoiler-seekers away before they get a chance to actually look at the contents and find them interesting and amusing to stroll through. (It'll be a long while before that happens, though.)

Article Guidelines?

I personally haven't touched this yet because I haven't completed most of the mainstream yet. That said, I think we should discuss article guidelines for future, more qualified editors.

1) Style: Narrative or the more traditional encyclopedia-like? It seems we're leaning toward the latter.

2) Context: In-universe or out-of-universe? i.e. Should we refer to the PC as the Milletian or the player? Either way, "you" should be out.

3) Level of detail: Self-explanatory.

Feel free to add in anything that you feel should be discussed.

Vance07:39, 6 March 2011

Just my answers: 1) At the moment it's leaning to the encyclopedia, but that's mostly because it was taken almost straight out from each of the respective generation walkthroughs. I want to change it to a narrative style, though. Please help? 2)In-universe, to keep it with the narrative style. I'm against referring to the character as the player. I sorta like the second-person, though, because it really is the person reading going through this. 3) This should probably include the little details of the commentary, and probably quotes as well, but obviously the grinding battles against the regular monsters should be summarized, unless a monster is notably powerful (like the Blinker). Bosses, yes, we should describe them, and maybe their weaknesses.

AKAAkira20:24, 10 August 2011

I have to agree with Akira. Most of it is pretty opinionated and pretty messy. Summarizing is pretty important, too.

Take a look at the Doppelganger part within Generation 10. It's descriptive enough to reveal what the Doppelganger does and what is useless and useful in the battle (thank Akira for that).

Infodude57512:21, 24 November 2011

Since G4 doesn't have a storyline, and G3's Dark Knight quests aren't in here, while all the other trans quests are, could I put in the G3's Dark Knight quests into G4's section to fill that bit up?

AKAAkira20:30, 10 August 2011

That wouldn't be correct. It wasn't released in G4 and it has nothing to do with the content released in G4. We go by official names given by Nexon for generation quests. Sidequests=/=Generation Quests.

Pyro - (Talk)20:39, 10 August 2011

Eh, I suppose.
So we just leave G4 as it is? Or can we just take the G4 section out altogether? The latter would be my next choice, I don't like the way G4 is situated right now.

AKAAkira09:06, 11 August 2011

Naa. Although it didn't have a generation quest chain, it still sort of did have a story.

Pyro - (Talk)12:48, 11 August 2011

What's there right now is pretty useless. I think it can be removed, or maybe leave a simple note that there wasn't a mainstream story to it.

Angevon (Talk)12:54, 11 August 2011

Agreed, but we should still mention the colonization.

Pyro - (Talk)13:13, 11 August 2011
