Talk:Magnum Shot

From Mabinogi World Wiki

The addition at rank 4 is wrong for total skill points. I Realize that the total came out to 200, and would like confirmation on the cost (of course that rank isn't reachable yet but..) before it is changed.

Obtaining the skill

When you alk to cheif Duncan with the "Skills" keyword, I think you have to have a bow equiped or else he will just talk about skills instead of redirecting you to the next person.

Elves

For elves, the cost to get rF magnum is 0 AP. slayer1o1

I also noticed, this is for elves at least, to get from B-A is 11 ap and to get from A-9 is 13 ap,

I guess we need to make a second column for elf ap cost. I keep mine at F because i dont see as an magnum an advantage over the ranged attack except for the knock back and to penetrate defense. so if someone could give the info that would be great. i would be happy to put it into a table. slayer1o1 01:19, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Elf training for the skill is different than it is for humans, at least at rank 4. I haven't looked for it at other ranks, so I cannot say for any of the others. As it stands elves get more for most training other than crit finish, as seen here : Use the skill .06 / 2300 Crit hit .5 / 2300 Finishing blow .8 / 750 Crit finish 1.65 / 240

I heard it's really different for most levels. Like, to get the master title, you only need 2k or 3k magnum crits. Can someone make a separate section for it, similar to how windmill is subdivided? Beepuke 01:07, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, I've finally got my elf through all of magnum, adding relevant info for the skill as I went. I Unfortunately missed one rank though. Can anyone else correct the missing rank? Also a more separated table would be nice, but its not as easy as changing it to the windmill tables since giants dont get this skill. Anyone have any ideas on that front? Splash Damage

Is the splash damage based on your damage or the skill's damage? For example, at r1 Magnum Shot, there is a 20% damage splash. Is that 20% of the 500% Damage, thus resulting in 100% of your regular damage, or is it 20% of your regular damage? Sogard6 05:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

20% of your total damage (20% of the 500% damage). EnigmaticFractal

Aim Speed

Aiming speed lowers with higher ranks of Ranged Attack? Is this correct? It makes no sense. Did he mean to say "Aiming time"?

I was wondering the same thing. from what i can tell its either always the same speed or gets faster, so maybe thats a typo?--(not-so)Anonymous 13:58, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Dex Damage Bonus

At rank 1, will it apply your dexterity modifier five times to damage, or only once? Perhaps this should be added to the page--Novaix 23:46, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

General Info

Due to Leather Long Bow's (and other slow bows') stun time, it is actually possible to Magnum an enemy, switch to a shield, charge, switch back to a bow, and Magnum again. All during the enemy's "down" time. Using slow bows allows you to charge the enemy immediately after without giving them time retaliate. Even more effective if you Sand Burst after the second Magnum, wait for Charge to cool down, and repeat. --ZephyreTALK 09:45, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the down time is the same between all bows, considering I can do that with a crossbow and short bow. Tellos 12:37, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
You don't say? I was pretty sure I couldn't do it with a short bow. Must be my ping. --ZephyreTALK 16:12, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
I have a ping of 80 ms on Comcast ISPs and a latency of virtualy 0 due to a forced linear connection to the nexon servers. (I am east coaster by the way). I've never noticed any difference in magnum pin time with different bows, however, bows have different base aim speeds (base aim speed is based on the current max distance of the bow, and the bows speed. Higher distance = faster aim, higher speed = faster aim.) Maybe thats why you can't mag chain enemies with long range bows? All the xbows and longbows I use are upgraded (1700 xbow, 2200 elven long bow). Also, elves base aim speed appears to be ~25% higher than humans if you're using an elf. Tellos

Magnum Insta - aggro?

Has anyone noticed that recently magnum shot has an instant aggro time? Maybe I just never noticed before, but within a second of me clicking on a monster to start aiming magnum, the monster sprints at me, even if he is way out of range and i can only barely see him on my map.

Ebrithil of Ruari (talk)22:37, 23 September 2012

I dunno why but I believe it's an anti-botting measure...I remember even using normal range, or even barely targeting with a random weapon provokes this...CP relevant maybe? or perhaps a glitch in the AI that's programmed into the mob. I've had this happen with brown foxes up in northern Tir, and the fennec foxes near Filia...

Ahh.. >.< It was happening to me with bears in dunby and boars in abb neagh. It would be a lot easier if they would just.. Let the bots flourish.

Ebrithil of Ruari (talk)08:07, 24 September 2012

I'm pretty sure it's just a side effect of the monster being enthralled. It stays like that even after you kill them.

Meru (talk)10:03, 24 September 2012

Nah, in an empty channel I still get aggro'd o.e

S•A•R•I•A (talk)10:55, 24 September 2012

Just tested it again to make sure. Only a few of the mongooses outside of qilla aggroed when I aimed but others did not.

Meru (talk)11:15, 24 September 2012

That might be the case, maybe Enthrall status carries over to mobs like lullaby resistance to respawns? Because they were doing it even when i watched them spawn.

Ebrithil of Ruari (talk)16:21, 24 September 2012

Enthrall causes anyone targeting the Enthralled to aggro? That sounds really absurd.

If I'm not mistaken, Magnum aggro doesn't occur in Dungeons, Shadows, and Theatres. So its most likely an anti-bot feature.

EDIT: Did a little testing in Taillteann's Gray Foxes, nothing happened. Is it based on the type of monster and/or location?

Infodude575 (talk)17:28, 24 September 2012

I went and did testing just now on Taillteann's gray foxes. Here's the results i got. Aimed at young gray fox, nothing happened. Used enthralling on it and canceled it, fox attacked. Killed it and waited for the fox to despawn. Searched around for a young gray fox in combat mode since the ones you kill spawn in combat mode when you look at them from far away. Aimed at that fox and it aggroed instantly and attacked.

Meru (talk)18:22, 24 September 2012

Well that sucks. no more killing random monsters on my elf :L

Ebrithil of Ruari (talk)19:21, 24 September 2012

After long debates and testing bow speed does seem to effect your firing rate with magnum shot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KY9KE9YXPA In that video what you should be looking at is the skill icon above the players head. Notice that it's small and transparent longer with slow bows and almost nonexistent with fast bows. Testing this with more then 80 ping showed little to no difference between bow speeds wile west coast players were able to see a remarkable difference (as shown in the video).
