What is considered "Data mining"?
I've said this before. If it's from a web-based source, like Korean gameabout or Japanese wiki, then it's fine to put on our wiki. If it's ripped from client files, then it's not okay.
Far more relevant in my opinion;
"We have mentioned many times that we are not banning players for what they do outside of the game. All we request is that you do not post your data mined information on the official Mabinogi forums, and if you wish to be officially acknowledged as a fansite you would need to follow certain rules."
Now considering I own an official fansite, that's listed on the Nexon Global site, that just had an in game event with them for the past month and has a GM posting regularly, and literally the entire purpose of my site is mining the crap out of the Global, Korean, SEA and EU versions of one of their game, is it at all possible you're misunderstanding the sanctions you feel are necessary here?
We've had Nexon representatives contact us about this issue already. We were told to cease any sort of public data mining.
So here's the obvious question - Who was your contact from and why did they give you a completely absurd requirement they didn't give me? It's been over 4 years since Lloyd Korn tried that with us, and now they openly acknowledge and recognize us as a valuable service to the community. Why would you be any different?
And exactly what was the "or else" attached? Did they actually threaten legal action or did they simply refuse to acknowledge you as a fansite? Because frankly having data is what makes you worth visiting, without that you can be a recognized fansite all you want but you're worthless. If they threatened legal action; On what grounds? Raw facts aren't copyrightable. Every image in here is Fair Use under the most stringent of tests because it's players contributing snapshots of their play experiences.
