I know it's still a work in progress but I'd like some feedback on the new format to see if it could replace Template:StyleExplorationQuestRow

Infodude575 (talk)16:54, 23 September 2014

More pleasing to look at imo.

But I feel like this can be achieved just by simply editing the current template. (or get close to it)

That and the current one uses transclusions, which for the sake of sanity seems more easier to edit. All we would have to do them is move pages around and make more pages for new expl quests and edit older ones.

Nise Panda (talk)17:09, 23 September 2014

Obviously we don't need the same image on every line anymore.

If all the old requirements are gone then I don't see another way to do it, though certain people hate hidden things

Edit: I didn't actually look at the code, just the result. It would be very easy to edit the existing template to generate the tables you've made exactly the way they are (plus having every column sortable makes much more sense). It needs to be updated anyway

Shroom Fonzerelli (talk)17:17, 23 September 2014

We could easily remove the image and level for obvious reasons. And the timelimit since it no longer seems to exist(?), target monster seems pretty useless too.

Nise Panda (talk)17:26, 23 September 2014

Probably goes without saying, once you change the template, everything on Category:Exploration Quests, as well as the individual quest pages (which need to be completely redone probably as well) will break. So be ready for that.

Shroom Fonzerelli (talk)17:30, 23 September 2014

It'll be a long boring day.

Removing

|Cap=n |Level=1 |TimeLimit=n(?)

Also question. Can you find ALL the quests in all the quest boards?

Nise Panda (talk)17:35, 23 September 2014

I saw collection quests for physis monsters in qilla, so I'd go with yes

Shroom Fonzerelli (talk)17:37, 23 September 2014

All right, thanks for the well-appreciated feedback.

As for the other individual quest pages, Mikaya said somewhere to just slap a {{Template:Archived}} on them.

Now, would you guys prefer to have the entire list on a single page or split it into four individual pages?

And yes, you can find all the quests on any board.

Infodude575 (talk)17:38, 23 September 2014

Though, what the individual quest pages do is easy access to information a searcher. Without making redirects.

The title page is a pretty good example of what happened to those redirects.

Nise Panda (talk)17:41, 23 September 2014

I'm... not so sure what you mean.

Infodude575 (talk)10:27, 26 September 2014

If I want find to the Find the Young Brown Porcupine quest. I would just type that in and get the information. Which is the good part about individual pages.

If I want the information for the Strong title. It only sends me to the title page and then I have to find the title by myself.

Nise Panda (talk)11:57, 26 September 2014

No, I meant these lists split into separate pages for their respective tabs, maybe <include></include> onto the main list.

Infodude575 (talk)12:21, 26 September 2014

I was replying to that.

Nise Panda (talk)14:20, 26 September 2014

Man, most of the exploration quest pages and categories are going to get deleted. Yay.

Nise Panda (talk)17:39, 23 September 2014

Wait! Delete or archive?

Infodude575 (talk)17:41, 23 September 2014

EDIT: Oop wrong area.

Infodude575 (talk)18:12, 23 September 2014

Well, most of the categories are going to be deleted.

Problem with the current list of quests is that, once we update the current template, that turns into nope.

Nise Panda (talk)17:44, 23 September 2014

I guess just archive everything like mikaya wanted and then lay down the framework for the new stuff and let...someone else torture themselves with doing all those new quests

Shroom Fonzerelli (talk)18:01, 23 September 2014

Not sure why anyone would go through so much trouble for archives.

Nise Panda (talk)18:04, 23 September 2014

The quests themselves weren't even removed, so I think giving their lists archived might cause some confusion.

Infodude575 (talk)18:13, 23 September 2014

Hm, is Additional Reward really needed? Out of Collection and Hunting tabs I've only seen that one book.

Infodude575 (talk)20:54, 24 September 2014

Maybe rename "Additional Reward" to "Notes" and move it to the end. For example: The A broken piece of a Whistling Rock gives you a collection book upon accepting the quest. This also occurs to the Glowing Stone Statue quests.

Kiyoura (talk)14:08, 25 September 2014

I'm not sure what you mean by "move it to the end". Do you mean put an asterisk?

Also how about I shorten rewards to one column? (Thanks to Blargel for the idea)

Infodude575 (talk)10:22, 26 September 2014

I like one column for rewards.

Meru (talk)11:44, 26 September 2014

Finally finished with all four lists. Now I need some final inputs and ideas for tweaks before a move can be made.

Infodude575 (talk)23:13, 25 September 2014

I didn't see this.

But I don't think you read what WhitePass and I said.

Nise Panda (talk)12:45, 29 September 2014

So, who'd like to edit all those templates then?

Infodude575 (talk)13:33, 29 September 2014

You wouldn't technically have to edit the individual templates. It's just some of the variables being passed won't be used.

--

Er, scratch that. While what I said earlier still applies, they would all still need to be edited anyway since they all have the old reward values.

Again, the format of the pre-existing data templates aren't the issue. It's either update all of the templates or manually enter the data on that 1 page

Yinato (talk)13:53, 29 September 2014

I think we are talking about different templates. Without saying the raw data templates would all have to be updated with new info, but the existing row template is just like a 5 minute tweak away from matching up with Info's tables. Removing all the extra data to save space is just a bonus. Again, that row template has a bit of junk on it right now.

Normally I'd like the idea of just filling out little templates on the page, but one of the trends for the wiki is a template overload so that different things can look at the same data. That said, we would also have to fill out/update the individual quest pages, assuming we still even want those (we probably do for some).

Shroom Fonzerelli (talk)20:12, 29 September 2014

See Template:StyleNewExplorationQuestRow :v...

We're talking about the same template btw. My original statement was that you wouldn't have have to modify the data templates (for compatability) since the updated row template would ignore the unused passed values. However, you would still have to edit the data templates since they're outdated.

Yinato (talk)06:20, 30 September 2014

Also... What should we do about these two individual lists? They're from two tabs in the current list, but use the outdated table.

Infodude575 (talk)17:26, 29 September 2014

Not sure why we should archive them, since if we edit the current pages those are going to get edited as well.

Might as well delete imo.

Nise Panda (talk)17:32, 29 September 2014

Do we really need to archive it? I mean it's essentially updating anyway. I mean for things like SMs, the old rewards weren't archived either (nor should they be)

Yinato (talk)17:44, 29 September 2014

Except these two don't belong in archived, Nise, because they're in existence in today's Mabinogi. Unless you're talking about the level / capped lists.

Infodude575 (talk)17:50, 29 September 2014

Yes, and why would we need multiple lists?

Nise Panda (talk)17:56, 29 September 2014

Not sure why we should archive them

Is all I'm responding to, I don't care about the end result.

Infodude575 (talk)17:59, 29 September 2014

Then obviously you missed the.

Yes.

Nise Panda (talk)18:01, 29 September 2014

Special quests

There seems to be special quests that pop up every now and again for a couple minutes. I saw one only one time, but it was a pretty good quest. I think it was something like gather 5 young brown warg claws for 20k exploration exp or so. No idea if that's what it really was since it was only there for a couple seconds, and I didn't get a good look. Just something to look out for.

Meru (talk)11:24, 14 September 2014

Found 3 of them, all collection.

  • Special Quest! Collect 5 Gold Forest Lizard Claws

Meru (talk)14:00, 18 September 2014

Has anyone else actually seen these quests? When I compiled these lists I've never seen a single "Special Quest".

Infodude575 (talk)09:52, 26 September 2014

They are pretty rare. I see one maybe every 10 times I check, and I'm checking it every time I pass by it. I got some pictures of them for when I filled them out above because, when the quest board refreshes, they disappear. [1] [2] [3]
