Broken talk pages?

Broken talk pages?

Liquid threads look different, the sidebar is aligned to the bottom on talk pages, and the new messages page just displays a red box. What happened?

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)04:48, 7 February 2014

Wiki update I'm guessing. You'd have to take it up with the wiki admin Saiyr.

Also, the error seemed to have occured...well the time is listed below:

Looking into it. Let me know if you see anything else broken. The new style is ugly, yes, but oh well.

Edit: New messages page should work now.

Saiyr (talk)09:39, 7 February 2014

I don't see the reply button on the bottom anymore, just to the right.

Infodude575 (talk)11:06, 7 February 2014

That's not broken, just different.

Saiyr (talk)11:08, 7 February 2014

Though some what inconvenient, because all replies are now pyramids.

Nise Panda (talk)11:14, 7 February 2014

Oh god no...

レキシス・ミカヤ (talk)13:09, 7 February 2014

I find the slightly indenting Pyramid (a la Reddit) to be much more readable than the weird templates you guys use to quote, personally. And it doesn't have to be a pyramid, you just have to scroll up and hit the reply a level above.

Saiyr (talk)13:11, 7 February 2014

The problem I have with this is well, Reddit is a community of +millions. So of course they're going to need a things that collapses once it's too long. But I find the talk page useful at times, because sometimes it has info on the changes the page went through. So it just seems nicer to read all the info in a row, as if they were an addition to the other.

Reddit also has a better format for it? I guess one can say.

Nise Panda (talk)16:03, 7 February 2014

Threaded discussion existed long before Reddit as well. Size of the community is orthogonal to hierarchical threading. Let me be frank here: This extension has required a lot of upkeep to keep it working with newer versions of MediaWiki without upgrading the extension itself. If I have to keep maintaining it at its (crappy, buggy) state, I'm going to need very good reasons. There's an official MediaWiki project going on that can eventually replace this (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Flow), but it's not ready yet. I'll be keeping my eye on it. If you want it to fit your needs, you should too.

I just hope people follow suit then :c

レキシス・ミカヤ (talk)13:13, 7 February 2014

Can we downgrade?. . . These pyramids make it annoying-er to read, in my opinion.

Kapra - (Talk)15:21, 7 February 2014

Yes, I agree.

Infodude575 (talk)19:43, 7 February 2014

Even if it were to change, it wouldn't be for a week or 2 so more input/opinions can be gathered. I don't see a reason to change it if only ~4 people (basing this off of the ones who've said they dislike it for one reason or another).

Can't say I prefer one layout over the other, but this one at least makes it a lot easier to follow long-ass discussions.

Yinato (talk)19:51, 7 February 2014

I actually gotten used to it now. I'm okay with this.

レキシス・ミカヤ (talk)21:50, 7 February 2014

I prefer this version. the darker outlines make it easier to see what was a response to what, and the individual show/hide buttons seem like they might be useful. The extra reply buttons on the left in the previous version seemed convenient in theory, but too many people seemed to misunderstand their purpose so it just ended up making discussions less organized.

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)22:04, 7 February 2014

How do you NOT create a pyramid in this new format?

Infodude575 (talk)12:02, 8 February 2014

Like this.

Nise Panda (talk)12:06, 8 February 2014

Please don't be so vague...

Infodude575 (talk)12:22, 8 February 2014

But it's so simple. I just replied to my own post that said 'Like this.'

Nise Panda (talk)12:22, 8 February 2014

To be more precise, like this.

Ikkisuki (talk)12:24, 8 February 2014

It's really not hard o-o; Find the post you want to reply to and reply to it. I gotten used to it pretty quick.

レキシス・ミカヤ (talk)12:53, 8 February 2014

Oh, I see now.

I just hope newbies don't go pyramid sprees...

The navigation sidebar is still stuck at the bottom for everything in the Talk namespace(User_Talk and NewMessages look fine)

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)10:30, 19 February 2014

Example? The only page I knew of that had broken navigation was Angevon's talk page. The home talk page isn't broken, at least not for me.

Saiyr (talk)10:33, 19 February 2014

Never mind then, it might just be me. The home talk page is broken for me in firefox, but not chrome.

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)10:42, 19 February 2014

I just loaded it in firefox and don't see any issues, either. Anyone else seeing issues? Screenshots?

Saiyr (talk)11:46, 19 February 2014

It's not nearly as bad as Angevon's talk page. Everything looks exactly as it should except that the sidebar(The boxes labeled "navigation", "categories", "tools", "affiliates" and "search" are lower than the bottom of the page. The sidebar starts several lines lower than the line under the first/previous/next/last buttons with just a bunch of empty space to the right of the sidebar.

Sozen Cratos Focker (talk)12:39, 19 February 2014

Just why is Angevon's talk page broken?

Infodude575 (talk)11:24, 19 February 2014

I think there's an unclosed div somewhere.

Saiyr (talk)14:40, 19 February 2014

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to be pages with a "Show More Replies" button that are broken. Not saying it's the button that's causing it. Probably the truncation of replies.

(Chrome, issue doesn't seem to appear on Firefox for me Nevermind, the issue didn't appear on firefox because I'm logged in and I have show all posts without truncation. So yeah, the issue has to do with the truncation.)

Ikkisuki (talk)14:54, 19 February 2014

Yes, that's what it was. Wish I had refreshed this earlier instead of going off to find it myself. It's fixed now, but my hate for LQT isn't.
