This...belongs to Mr. Buchanan? Why, it's a list of books he borrowed!
Let's see... Partholon? That's a difficult book to get through.
What could he possibly have been researching?
- Continue
Wait! I got it. The Tara Royal Library!
If Mr. Buchanan was reading books like Partholon,
he must've visited the Royal Library at least once.

You say Aeira sent you? I've heard of her.

Once you complete you mission, you return to Arzhela.]
Arzhela
CharacterName, you have proven that you've come in good faith.
So please, take this. It's Buchanan's Royal Library Card.
It lists all the books Buchanan has ever borrowed.
I held onto it for him as a friend.

[You take care of the enemies within the Gate Hall. Suddenly, Cichol appears.]'
Onscreen Message: Cichol: It's been a long time...
[You decide to speak with Cichol.]
Cichol
Do not be alarmed. I have not come to oppose you.
I have come to warn you of an impending disaster.
I fear the Caliburn has merged with Courcle's Heart,
which can only lead to disaster. If only I'd seen that earlier!
- Continue
You see, the Caliburn, created by Aton Cimeni, forged this world...
It is also the key to the complete destruction of it!
When we stole the Caliburn from the humans,
we wanted it's power for our own purpose,
but we had no intention of destroying the world...
- Continue
But now, it may be too late. The path of the Caliburn has been set.
In the end, the Caliburn will drain not just the blood
of Milletians, but the blood of Fomors and Gods as well!
Do you recall the ancient race that once prospered, the Parthalonians?
- Continue
They were utterly wiped out in a single day
by a plague spread by the Caliburn.
- Continue
And now, history is about to repeat itself,
in the very land where the Parthalonian's corpses still lay.
Do not forget, one who has received the power of Gods
also has an obligation to fight for the world...

Buchanan
So, is that a no on the book? Eh, I've got time.
Let me know if you change your mind...
- Continue
As for what I'm doing here, use your head!
I came to the Shadow Realm in search of ancient books!
- Continue
I got a tip that books written by the ancient Parthalonians
were being discovered in the Royal Castle Shadow Realm.
Of course I had to come and see for myself.
- Continue
I found some interesting stuff, too. Here, in this book,
I think you'd want to see this.
- Continue
Since you're the Shadow Hero and all,
I figured you'd be interested.
You must've heard of the Caliburn before,
a treasure that disappeared from the Rath Royal Castle.
This ancient Parthalonian book I found in the Shadow Realm
contains information about the [sic] it.
- Continue
I need to decipher more of the ancient Parthalonian language
to understand the details though...
- Continue
Isn't the fact that the Caliburn came from a civilization
much more advanced than us Tuatha de Dananns
a great discovery in itself?
- Continue
Hmm. The Parthalonian race and the Caliburn...
There is definitely something here.
Further investigation may yield a great treasure...

Talk to Sinead
[You seek out Sinead to answer her request.]
Sinead
Greetings, I am Sinead, the Royal Court Secretary.
I apologize for contacting you in such an unusual manner.
As you're no doubt aware, the Shadow Realm that started
in Taillteann has spread to the Rath Royal Castle.
- Continue
According to Padan's report, the forces that threaten
the Aliech Kingdom, including the Fomors,
have amassed in the Shadow Realm.
- Continue
Also in the Shadow Realm is a group of Corrupted Alchemists,
commonly called the Arat Alchemists, rumored to be
former member of Helvetius's Arat Alchemy Society.
They have been possessed by the Erg of Darkness...
- Continue
Last, but certainly not least, are the Ghosts of Partholon.
It has not been confirmed whether they are actually related
to the ancient Parthalonians. I suspect not.
But they are nonetheless a threat.
- Continue
We must investigate and find out the truth behind all of this!
But Alchemists talented enough to venture into the Shadow Realm
are in short supply. You must find Cai! He recently resigned his position
as Royal Alchemist. Take his Alchemist Medal.
You must convince him to return to the Royal Alchemists!

- Receive Alchemist Medal (Item)
Deliver the Alchemist Medal to Cai
[By Sinead's request, you take Cai's medal and enter the Shadow Realm Rath Royal Castle. You then begin to clear the castle of Fomor enemies as you look for Cai. Eventually, you hear a message from Cai.]
Onscreen Message: Cai: I'll be waiting for you in the room at the eastern corner.
[You follow Cai's message and eventually find him in the room he indicated in his message.]
Cai
I see you have my old Alchemist Medal,
which means Sinead must've sent you.
I don't know what she told you, but I have no plans
to become a Royal Alchemist again for a while...
- Continue
You see, I am partially to blame for the threat
Erinn's currently facing...
- Continue
Anyway, I'll take the medal, since you brought it all this way,
but I can't promise anything. First, I must return the Caliburn
to the Royal Castle. Of course, I can't do that alone.
I need Leymore's help. Can you ask him for me?
- OK
[Upon initiating conversation with Cai again]
Cai
Someday, I'll return the favor you've done for me today.
I have a feeling that I'll be seeing you again very soon.
- End Conversation
Talk to Sinead
[You return to Sinead with news.]
Sinead
I am well aware of Leymore's activities.
Managing the Royal Alchemists is one of my many responsibilities.
Our last report reveals that he is currently researching Alchemy inside Taillteann's Shadow Realm.
Come to think of it, I haven't heard from him in a while...

[You pass the gate and defeat the enemies standing in the way. You then look for Leymore, who you find behind the Alchemist House.]
Leymore
CharacterName! It's been so long since we last met!
I almost didn't recognize you...

I haven't heard from Cai recenty, but it's just like him
to concoct some wild plan all by himself.
Of course, I'll help. Not just as a Royal Alchemist,
but as his friend. You don't even have to ask.
- Continue
...
- Continue
Hm, getting rusty, CharacterName?
I do believe you were followed.
- OK
[You and Leymore find yourselves surrounded by enemies.]
Onscreen Message: Shadow Warrior: I've finally got you, Alchemist. You won't escape me this time.
[You defeat the enemies together with Leymore.]
Leymore
I'm sorry, I'm a little distracted.
Jenna...is not with me right now.
She left this letter...

There are so many things I wish to speak to her about!
But I guess I'll just have to wait...
I'm sorry, I'm babbling. I apologize.
- OK

Onscreen Message: Do you remember, Leymore?
Our first meeting, under the stars in Emain Macha.

My father didn't die at the hands of the Fomors.
Onscreen Message:
I didn't want to believe it, but it's true.
Onscreen Message: The Royal Alchemists were responsible for this death.
Onscreen Message: Leymore, I don't blame you...
Onscreen Message: My father may have been just a political scapegoat.

Onscreen Message: Arat Diem Morri Daunata...
[A bright light encases Jenna and she is revived. Jenna stands up and faces the Goddess.]
Neamhain

How cruel, yes, but fascinating at the same time.

Jenna

You've lost your child, your only bloodline
yet I don't sense even the slightest hint of sadness from you.
- Continue
Is that because you're a Goddess?
- Continue
Neamhain
I am not here as a deity.
I can speak of light, even in the midst of darkness
because I, young one, still have a dream.
- Continue
I have come before you because I sense the darkness within you.
- Continue
Jenna

Onscreen Message: Talk to Leymore and Cai.
[You begin with Leymore.]
Leymore
Sinead must've contacted you.

The three of you eliminate the commander as well. Once that is done, Morrighan suddenly appears. You decide to listen to what she has to say.]
Morrighan
I have been wathing you.
I know you are here in search of the Caliburn.
- Continue
The Caliburn was a tool used by Aton Cimeni to form this world.
- Continue
After creating the world,
Aton Cimeni left the Caliburn
with the man named Partholon.
Partholong created the Caliburn Altar
and faithfully guarded the Caliburn.
- Continue
However, Partholon eventually fell to the Fomors.
And until the Second Battle of Mag Tuireadh,
when the Caliburn was returned to Rath Royal Castle
by Lugh the Knight of Light's triumph,
the Caliburn rested with the Fomors.
- Continue
Once the Caliburn returned to its rightful place,
the world saw peace.
But that peace was not to be.
For the Caliburn disappeared from the Royal Castle,
and now the Shadow Realm threatens Erinn.
- Continue
Cichol spoke that the Caliburn would bring about
the utter destruction of Erinn.
We can no longer deny that the destruction has begun...

It has become unstable.
Even now, it is transforming into the Brionac,
the sword of the Gods.

We have not much time.
Already, I can feel the heartbeat of the Brionac.
CharacterName, the task of returning the Caliburn to

Briana
You must think it strange that a young girl like me
is interested in the Brionac.
But I'm currently writing a new song!
It's called, "The Parthalonian Prince."
- Continue
I was inspired by Arzhela's friend, Buchanan,
who told me about a book named Brionac
that tells of a race of people known as Parthalonians.
They loved laughing and singing
more than anything else in the world!
- Continue
There was a Parthalonian prince named Tuan, admired by all,
who loved a girl named Arianell. Since Arianell was a commoner,
Tuan give[sic] up his right to the throne just so he could marry her!
- Continue
But one day, a devastating plague spread amongst the Parthalonians.
One after another, people died.
And Prince Tuan couldn't do a thing to stop it.
- Continue
Arianell, alas, also became infected by the plague,
and soon died in the arms of Prince Tuan,
who must've weeped terribly for his lost love.
- Continue
In fact, Prince Tuan was the only one of his people to survive the plague.
Sad, don't you think? Perfect inspiration for a song.
If you want to learn more, talk to Buchanan.
He's in Tir Chonaill, looking fo[sic] the Book of Partholon.
- Continue
I hear he's investigating something in Ciar Dungeon.

[You head to Ciar Dungeon and offer the artifact to the altar. Once you enter the dungeon, you fight past the enemies in each room. You eventually reach the Boss Room, where Buchanan is.]
Buchanan
Briana must've told you where I'd be.
Though I guess it wouldn't have been hard to guess
I'd be in Tir Chonaill searching for ancient books anyway.
- Continue
It's like searching for needles in a haystack!
It's so hard to hunt down remnants of the Parthalonians
after so much time has passed.
- Continue
While staying at Piaras's Inn, I've met others
also researching the Parthalonians.
No one seems to be having much luck.
- Continue
I have found a few books, though. The Parthalonians seem
to believe that the Caliburn is not a fixed substance,
but rather a living being that continuously changes form!
- Continue
The Brionac, the holy sword!
That's the final evolved form of the Caliburn!
The books spend pages and pages talking about it.
- Continue
It also seems that the Parthalonians used special magic
to handle the Brionac, but that magic is now lost.
I think that magic is the key to understanding the Parthalonians.
- Continue
I need to return to Tara now.
I think I'm finally getting the answers I need.
- OK
Talk to Briana
[You leave Ciar Dungeon and return to Briana.]
Briana

I've received an urgent message from Buchanan,
who is inside the Shadow Realm.
Details are scarce, but I would like you to investigate.
I'v also contacted Cai and Leymore, just in case.
- End Conversation
Obtain information from Buchanan
[You head to the Shadow Realm to meet with Leymore and Cai. You find them waiting for you on the first floor of the Royal Castle in the Shadow Realm.]
Leymore
Have you heard the news? Buchanan may be in danger.
I've been worried since receiving the message from Sinead.
- Continue
We've delayed too long. Let's hurry.
- End Conversation
Cai
I received word that Buchanan is in danger.
I understand he was searching for clues about the Parthalonians.
I hope nothing has happened to him.

That Buchanan is really something,
roaming the Shadow Realm by himself.
We better hurry.

Cai

[You, Leymore, and Cai clear the rooms in the castle as you look for Buchanan. Very soon, you find him in the Boss Room.]
Buchanan
You're here! Good!
Do you remember what I told you before?
After we spoke, I continued to search for clues
about the ancient magic of the Parthalonians.
- Continue
I finally found a lead. We need to get the Book of Partholon.
It contains everything we need to know about their ancient magic.
I've tracked the book down to the armory in the Shadow Realm.
I tried to grab it myself, but the Fomors got in my way.
- Continue
I figured the Shadow Hero who defeated Claimh Solas
might be better equipped to handle the Fomors...
At my age, my Smash just ain't what it used to be.
- Continue
Here's what you need to know. To get to the book,
you have to pass through a restaurant which hides a secret device.
The mechanism that opens the door only works
when the orbs are touched in a certain order.
I was able to discover that order...
- Continue
Take a look at this map, and follow the instructions.
If you make a mistake and touch the orbs out of order,
you'll be in a lot of trouble...
I risked my neck 24 times to get this info, so I know it's correct!
- OK
Talk to Sinead
[Having received the news from Buchanan, you report the details to Sinead.]
Sinead
Regrdless of what else happened,
I'm relieved that Buchanan is okay.
As for that special device in the Shadow Realm,
I have heard reports about it from the Royal Guard before...
I will help you so that you can approach the area more easily.

[The Python Knight slashes at Mata, killing him for good. Cai then steps forward.]
Cai

You seem to have inherited their vile powers.

Buchanan's mentioned it many times.
I can read a little of the Parthalonian language,
but I'm nowhere near as adept as Buchanan or Arzhela.

It's suffered too much damage.
Perhaps Arzhela would have more luck?

Why, this appears to be the genuine Book of Partholon!
This book is supposed to contain the records of the Parthalonians,
the protectors of the Caliburn.
This book may be the key to revealing the secrets of the ancient magic of the Parthalonian race!
- Continue
Before we can discover anything, we must first restore the book.
Too many pages are missing or faded beyond recognition.

Sinead
You have obtained the Partholon Stone, CharacterName.
I've heard tales that ancient magic is contained
within the Book of Partholon.
Sometimes, special artifacts even come forth from it.
- Continue
In any case, this Partholon Stone seems to be composed
of an unusual mineral. Perhaps Belita, a member of the Royal Geological Society, could shed some light on it.
I studied with her in Emain Macha, so tell her I sent you.
- End Conversation
Talk to Belita
[As requested by Sinead, you decide to gather information from Belita at the Calida Exploration Camp in Zardine.]
Belita
Sinead sent you? The name sounds familiar, but I don't quite--
Oh! Bookworm Sinead! Of course.
I went to school with her in Emain Macha.
She always had her nose stuck in a book.
I don't think I ever really spoke to her, though...

can be blocked with the Shadow Stone.
[As you fight, the Python Knight sends his black breath your way,]
Onscreen Message: Bask in the power of Cichol.
Awaken the Shadow Stone.
Evoke the dark spirit...
[You use the Shadow Stone to block the prince's black breath.]
Onscreen Message: The Shadow Stone has started to crack.
Yet, it is still too early.
The darkness of Partholon is required...
[Upon using the Shadow Stone without receiving the black breath attack]
Onscreen Message: The time has not come...
The Shadow Stone has not yet awakened.
[Upon receiving the black breath attack throughout the battle]
Onscreen Message: Milletian, use the power of Partholon
to open your eyes.
See the true power of the Fomor race.
Onscreen Message: The time has come.
The darkness of the Fomors
will sweep the land!
Onscreen Message: The time has come.
The darkness of the Fomors will be unleashed.
[Tuan uses his black breath attack a second time. You use the Shadow Stone again.]
Onscreen Message: The darkness of Partholon awakens the Shadow Stone.
[You continue to fight Tuan. As you do so, he sends his black breath attack over to you a third time. Once again, you use the Shadow Stone.]
[Cutscene]
Onscreen Message: I give you the power of Cichol.
[Darkness surrounds you and you grab your head in pain.]
Onscreen Message: You now possess the power of the Fomors.
[You feel the power surging through you.]
Onscreen Message: A power of strength, from the spirit of darkness...
[You entire body arches upwards. Then, you begin to regain your posture, basking in the new power given to you.]
Onscreen Message: Which will lead to a brilliant annihilation.
[Surronding yourself in the darkness, you activate Awakening of Light, this time with the addition of Cichol's dark powers.]
[End of Cutscene]
[Now, with your newfound power, you attack Tuan and his army. You absorb the souls of the army members when they die until Shadow Spirit is satisfied.]
Onscreen Message: Use Shadow Spirit to extract the soul from the corpse
and use it on the Python Knight again to attack.
[You attack Tuan with Shadow Spirit, causing him to be engulfed in darkness. Once he is freed, you repeat the same tactics you used before until his defeat.]

Help Cai in the Shadow Realm
[You enter the Shadow Realm via's Tara's Stonehenge, where you find yourself around the outskirts of the capital. You see Cai and decide to talk to him.]
Cai
While trying to find the identity of the Python Knight,
I found a connection between him and the Ancient Parthalonians.
They held the key to open Partholon's Barrier,
which protects the Alter[sic] of Caliburn.
Right over there is a relic known as the Caliburn Pass.

Onscreen Message: The altar of destiny... I will not let you have it...
[Another wave of enemies is defeated, and once again, you hear the enemy speak.]
Onscreen Message: Why do you help them, Milletian...?
[The boss, the Python Wizard appears along with a few other enemies. You take the final wave of enemies.]
Onscreen Message: Why...? But taking the key alone will not end this...
[Now, with the battle over, you talk to Cai again.]

The Caliburn Pass. Only guardians of the Caliburn,
like you who wields the Brionac, can use this.

Recover the Caliburn
[You enter the Shadow Realm once more.]
[Cutscene]
[You walk into the Royal Castle in the Shadow Realm's courtyard, surveying your surroundings. As you walk closer to the Altar of Caliburn, you notice the statues of four snake-like heads on each end of the altar. You stop moving, when all of a sudden, four Python Shamans appear. They each cast a spell that causes the stone casings on the four heads to shed, revealing Uroborus. One head extends forward and releases a hiss.]
[End of Cutscene]
[Locked into battle with Uroborus, you begin to take down each head, moving to the next whenever a head has fallen. Eventually, you successfully slay Uroborus.]
[Cutscene]
[The heads of Uroborus, now gray, begin to topple over one by one. In a bright flash of light, the heads disappear. The Altar of Caliburn then appears. You observe the altar, however, Tuan attacks you with his black breath, knocking you out. The Brionac appears, causing Tuan to walk towards it. He then takes it and moves to the altar, beginning to cast a spell.]

command you!

have resulted in you,
and not the Brionac?
- Continue

but to destroy you...

Tuan
...if that is what it takes to revive the Parthalonians.

[While the others engage the enemy, you run over to the Altar of Caliburn. The altar shines again, causing its powers to surge through you. A bright light originating from you then sweeps the area of enemies including Tuan. In your demi-god state, you hover above the altar, causing another shockwave to sweep the area. The enemies then disappear completely. Sometime later, you and the others stare in awe at a light situated above the Altar of Caliburn.]
Jenna
Everything started because of the Parthalonian Prince's grief.
His grief created the darkness of the Shadow Realm
and clouded his decisions.

Cai
It is not over yet.
Although the Caliburn has taken its rightful place,
the Shadow Realm continues to exist.

have the chance to choose.
